I am so burned out on baseball...Baseball network 8 hours a day since April of last year.

I do tend to over do it.

But, I've found my way back to Wilco, so maybe I'll take a break and find my way back to the great game.

I love Kerry Wood, I put most of the blame on his "Disappointing career" on Dusty Baker. That guy know how to burn out young pitchers.

I think his father and high school baseball coach have a lot of the blame.

I put most of the blame on him being a pitcher, they rise and fall, come and go, generally faster than any kind of athlete. Despite his injury history, Kerry Wood still had a pretty good career. I am aware, however, that most of his legend is of what could have been.

The Cubs should've never signed Wood this year anyway. Stupid nostalgic bullshit Rickets somehow convinced Epstein to do.

I think Jules purposely knows how to push my buttons.

Are you secretly my Evil Twin?

Listening to the Chicago game, Kerry Wood faced one batter in the eighth and struck him out. He was then lifted to a tremendous standing ovation. Enjoy the sunset, Kerry!

That's a pretty awesome way to go out.

(Although I wonder what they would have done if he gave up a homer ...)

Excessive innings and arm injuries before the age of 21 are the graveyard of pitcher' careers.

I know Wood's High School Coach. He says Woods' father insisted that he pitch Kerry in both ends of a double header and other goofy abusive shit like that.

It's not personal. Do you disagree on this though? Wood is a great guy and it looks like he will be with the organization in some capacity going forward, but it was a bad signing. That's all I'm saying.

Wasn't Wood's signing announced during the Cub's convention, too? Definitely more of a PR move - which is fine - baseball is a business. Great player, as well as a great person (charity work and all). It's a shame the him and Prior never were to maintain their initial greatness.

It was a sentimental move through and through, I will give you that. Bad signing not in the least. The Cubs were not going to contend this year, they had no hopes of contending this year. At the time of his signing he still could throw the ball (and well). He was signed to a 1 year 3 million dollar contract with an option for 2013. What reliever out there should have the Cubs gotten for that price?

It was a no brainer signing, he has history with the club and is a fan favorite. Kerry, the player he is/was relaized it was time hang it up and he could no longer help the Cubs. The signing did not hurt the Cubs in a rebuilding year.

If the Cubs were in a postion to win the division, I don't think they would have signed him.

"... in the meantime the Red Sox are starting Daniel Nava, Marlon Byrd, and Che-Hsuan Lin in the outfield tonight versus the Orioles. And outfielders now on Boston’s disabled list include Cody Ross, Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Darnell McDonald, Jason Repko, and Ryan Kalish."

Feel free to count them. Looks like two solid teams could be made out of that list, one of them All Star.

I wonder if actually drug testing the players is a cause of more injuries. Like Jules, I am not sure the list is more than normal or not.

I was interested in the "normalicy," so being a lover of facts I did some reserach.

As of 5/23/12 The High Heat Listed 180 players on the DL, for the same period last year there was 146 players on the DL. So about 25 more than last year. In 2010 for the same time period there was 119, again about 25 or so more.

If you can take anything from three years of stats it looks like the number of players for the first half of the season is increasing by about 25. I did not go back any farther (cause I do have to work today). But to anwser the question the increase doesn't seem normal, but a trend, nevertheless.

Here is where I got my stats:

2010 DL info

2011 DL info

BTW I don't think drug testing is the cause of trips to the DL, though I do think it is the cause for the length of time spent on the DL.

That sounds right.
