choo-choo-charlie
Per a Jeff story from a few Vic benefit shows ago, they were vacationing next to each other by chance. If a spark did not strike up then, it is doubtful one would now. Here's a YouTube clip of Tweedy telling that story...

thejokeexplained
Don't know when...but I have the inside scoop from a major t-shirt screenprinter that they just got in a huge Uncle Tupelo t-shirt order that points to a tour later this year. Sweetness! Same thing happened at some Boston t-shirt screen printer the week before the Super Bowl. Only now if you go to some third world country the people wearing those shirts believe that the "Patsies" pulled out that victory!
Bosco
Same thing happened at some Boston t-shirt screen printer the week before the Super Bowl. Only now if you go to some third world country the people wearing those shirts believe that the "Patsies" pulled out that victory! I know you are joking but that happens every year, they make shirts for both teams and ship them out. When I went to Houston for the Super Bowl they had shirts for both the Patriots and the Panthers and some where in some third world country they think the Panthers won. Mock them all you want but they did win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years and Tom Brady has 3 rings, not to many teams or Quarterbacks can make that claim. So as to not be off topic, I have seen Uncle Tupelo, and I'd love to see them again sometime, at a Solid Sound would be ideal.

My favorite t-shirt is a Georgia Bulldogs 2006 Sugar Bowl Championship t-shirt that a buddy of mine hijacked from their sidelines after West Virginia beat them late in the game. --Mike
elephantstone
perhaps they are just re-stocking this "new" t-shirt they added along with the vinyl reissues last month?
IRememberDBoon
anyone saying they SHOULDNT play together can kiss it! i think they should and it would be allsome. this aint some 70 year old crap band with 4 or 5 hits. every damn song they played was great and it would be sweet to see them bury the hatchet i for one am all for it and see zero downside. I think you've missed the point. It's not that people are saying they shouldn't play together; it's that Jeff and Jay have very little interest in doing so. They're the ones who think it shouldn't happen. I recall Jeff saying something in this Stereogum interview that it wouldn't be musically stimulating; more like a step backward. SPIN: You’ll be playing Bonnaroo with the Police — are all these band reunions tempting you to re-form Uncle Tupelo?JT: All I can say is, right now it feels like that would be kind of silly and wouldn’t be very productive musically. And as a music fan, I don’t know how many times it’s happened where I said, “Wow, there’s a lot of great artistic ground that just wasn’t mined yet.” But at the same time, I would never rule it out. And contrary to most people my age, I don’t think I ever liked the Police.
Magnetized
We've rehashed this subject so often that it does seem a little silly, but I'll just say that I think there is ZERO chance of a reunion tour. What I do think could happen is that at some random concert or festival, if the timing was right and the stars aligned and both Jeff and Jay were feeling sentimental/warmhearted/forgiving, they might just decide to be a special surprise guest for a song or two at the other's show. Actually, as they both get older and maybe more reflective, I really think they could both appreciate how cool that would be for the fans. So it wouldn't exactly be Uncle Tupelo redux, but Jeff and Jay--and John, if Jay were the one doing the guest stint. And through the magic of that imperfect medium youtube, the moment would be preserved for all to relive vicariously. It could happen. But I'm not holding my breath. There aren't just burned bridges here. The dug up the pilings, cut down the forest that was used to make the pilings and salted the earth. Mike Heindorn is probably still pissed at Jay for the aborted reformation of the band, and one can only imagine who Ken feels about Jeff (I'm betting it ain't warm and fuzzy). You can't roll in Glenn and call it an Uncle Tupelo reunion. If they did, it would be even MORE of a money grab.

IRememberDBoon
as far as this being a "money grab"??? huh? i would assume there would be less than half the folks that go to wilco shows. say outside of the midwest. college kid = Uncle Who?
remphish1
As much as I love Wilco and Son Volt I would rather see a brief UT tour at the moment. I know we are fantisizing but to me I have seen Wilco a bunch of times do what they do (which is great) but I never saw Tupelo in concert...That to me would be a dream come true! And since we are all fantasizing this would be my utimate festival..we can dub it the Jay Tweedy Fest with special guest...here would be my 3 day line up Fri headliner: Golden Smog/New MultitudesSat headliner: Son Volt/ Wilco co headliningSun: Uncle Tupelo Additional sets would be with the Jayhawks, Jeff and Jay solo, and all the other Wilco, Son Vot side projects! sonicshoulder
Perhaps this "huge Uncle Tupelo shirt order" is just one 4x shirt that is being made out of the kindness of some "major t-shirt screenprinter's" heart for a portly fan with a terminal illness who's last wish was to support his favorite band via 50/50 blend.
