Magnetized
I was watching the repeat broadcast tonight of the SNL with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Mumford and Sons. There were some gems in the Weekend Update segment. And some sketches were so multilayered. Still some excellent writing on that show.
Queen Amaranthine
I've watched SNL on and off since I was 12 years old when the 1st cast was live. Overall, great show! It has indeed had its down years, though. I haven't been watching it lately and therefore don't know how good it is or isn't currently. Some gems:Emily Litella (Gilda Radner!)Sketch with Cameron Diaz, where a host of a children's show was trying to prevent the characters dressed as letters K, F, U, and C from organizing in a certain, um, orderPatrick Swayze and Chris Farley as Chippendale dancersChurch Lady got old, but she was funny the first couple of times
kidsmoke
Who could ever forget Fish in a Blender? Oh, and that delicious bit with Gilda Radner and Candace Bergen, with Gilda doing a PSA for The Society of Extremely Stupid People, and she was so funny that Candace kept losing it laughing, muffing her lines because Gilda was so good...I need to see if I can find that on YouTube. Here we go:

There were some gems in the Weekend Update segment. And some sketches were so multilayered. Still some excellent writing on that show.My wife and I watched that episode Saturday as well. I can see how you enjoyed the weekend update, they chewed Romney up and spit him out. the segment with Fred Armisen was funny. I probably shouldn't let my kids watch SNL (16 yo girl & 11 yo boy) but I watched it at a much younger age and only have a couple of mental problems. It's been such a significant part of my pop culture growing up. As a teenager I couldn't wait to go to school so my friends and I could repeat the funny segments and adopt catch phrases for the wek and possibly the month.Long live SNL On another note, is it just me or do Mumford and Sons look like they are working too hard to make the music their playing? Me and my wife thought there was a lot of moving and "rocking out" motions for the amount of actual music being made. Almost looked like a skit! Hahaha

The High Heat
I still quote from Happy Fun Ball and recently showed it to my daughter who was thoroughyl amused ... With all the disclaimers attached to commercials these days, the Happy Fun Ball bit is more relevant now that when it was put out. Ahead of its time!

Ahead of its time! That's exactly why I showed it to my daughter. There was some medical ad on with all sorts of disclaimers Including "may cause death" and that caught her attention. Magnetized
Actually, it was the Weekend Update part that I thought was so impressive. The bit where they were ripping Obama for saying you can't change Washington from the inside was funny as hell. And yes, the segment where Fred Armisen and the woman cast member who were childhood friends of the Syrian president was kinda brilliant. And the Ann Romney segment was crazy good. Maybe I was just in a particularly receptive mood on Saturday night, but I thought a lot of the show eas clicking on all cylinders. Re Mumford and Sons, I totally agree. Everything they do sounds like an epic anthem, which gets really tiresome.
jff
Jimmy Fallon and Chris Parnell's Bloder Brothers sketches are pretty hilarious. Two idiots that can't stop laughing at their own stupid jokes, and it actually works. Also, Barry Gibb Talk Show. That's some comedy gold.

uncool2pillow
Either this season or last there was a really funny commercial for a product called "almost pizza". Or maybe "nearly pizza". I bet someone who cares more than me can find a link and post it.
dagwave
father guido sarducci. some of that smeigal digital short stuff is swell, too. murray's :todd was kinda funny and most of steve martins stuff too. i've been a fairly faithful viewer since i stumbled onto it at about 10 on my 8 inch b/w tv.after it ended sctv was on. and that memory is AWESOME. mountain bed
There's really just too many to count from the original cast, so I won't even try. Farley's "Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker" was one of the funnier bits from the 90s imo. I thought one of the best things from the last 5 years or so was Peyton Manning's "United Way" commercial. Totally went against the grain of his squeaky clean image. Thankfully he was game for doing it.
