Exactly. You know, I've noticed a common trait amongst those who throw that insult around - they tend to be douchebags.

I'm 43. I've been playing and listening to music obsessively since I was a kid. I've seen more shows of more genres than most, and I've been a Wilco fan (and U.T. before that) since my mid-twenties. At 39 I became a father and now it's "dad rock"? Sorry, but Fuck Directly Off.

i think the common trait is humor.  i am 40, love wilco and am a dad.  it fits perfect.  embrace it.  or fuck off directly.

Perhaps some are getting too old to do all this fucking.

I am 40 - two young kids - don't care either way.

Tweedy does seem to worry too much about these things, though.

It may be used with humor around here, and that's fine with me. I should have made it clear that I meant when it's used dismissively by non-fans.

I know it's silly and pointless to bother arguing about it, but for some reason when I hear that phrase I get a mental image of some guy in khaki pants, dockers and a pastel polo shirt grooving to Jimmy Buffet. But that's my El Guapo, I guess.

Nobody really knows what Dad Rock is, lamrod. It's just a mysterious phrase that seems to spark inane discussions. I DO know that Kid Rock gets little respect around here, though.

So sorry for lowering the tone with the "inane discussion". I'll let you get back to the serious business of commenting on a rock band's fan site.

Apology accepted, Captain Needa.

You wound, Lamrod. You really do.*

Well I guess you guys have all embraced the dad rock title. So be it. Given the demographic here, I didn't think my stance would be so controversial, but there it is.

* I have no idea what a "captain needa" is.

I'm just having fun. You should try it sometime. *

* It's a Star Wars quote.

It's this whole Paula Deen thing. It's tearing me apart!

By the way, could you have found a more obscure Star Wars reference? I actually had to google that, and I'm no slouch when it comes to Star Wars (he said before skulking away in shame).

I got in a brief yet tedious talk with my gal last night about how/why when I said the only Star Wars movie I've ever seen was the original one at the theatre in '77 or whenever it came out. I referred to it as "the first one" to which she kept telling me it actually isn't. Freaks.

The '77 movie is definitely the first one.  You are clearly dating a lunatic.
