SarahC
Can you guys tell me some good bands in these sort of sub genres of music? I've been really into this band Say Anything... they're pop punk for sure- I know it's probably not a lot of y'alls cup of tea, but I enjoy it for a lot of the same reasons I enjoy Wilco... I'm just looking for new things to listen to, and I trust you guys to help more than some other places on the web.

Beltmann
Just a few for starters, off the top of my head:Big StarFountains of WayneThe FeeliesBeulahThe Broken WestThe LemonheadsWeezerThe New PornographersThe Apples in StereoThe La'sBrendan BensonThe RentalsThe FormatVoxtrotThe Gaslight AnthemImperial Teen Some of them might be loose fits, but there is a lot of room in those categories. Most of those are power pop rather than pop punk.

tinnitus photography
i think it's pretty clear that we need to delineate Punk, Pop Punk and Power Pop into different categories/threads. i was kinda going off what I imagine Say Anything might sound like.
SarahC
i was kinda going off what I imagine Say Anything might sound like. Here's what they sound like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7rYZjv3wNg I know of the majority of the power pop bands listed, but haven't heard of several. I know most of the old school punk bands listed too, but there are several I've not taken the time to appreciate.
Albert Tatlock
Brakes - Touchdown (apparently called Brakesbrakesbrakes in the US) As has been mentioned, can't go wrong with The Jam. Start with All Mod Cons The Housemartins (who when split became The Beautiful South and Fatboy Slim) Birdmonster Rockpile
Doug C
How I love the late, great Housemartins... Sarah, rather than slogging through a huge list of posted bands, my advice would be to find out Say Anythings' influences and focus on them. After all, Say Anything is the band in the genre that you really dig. You probably thought of this on your own anyway.

The weird thing is I did that and didn't really like any other other similar bands with the exception of Saves The Day, because I listened to them in the little gap I had before I went Wilco crazy in high school because they were my best friends favorite band. SA is a weird one, because they don't really fit in the genre they get stuck with a lot of the time. I hear more elements of a band like Queen than Saves The Day a lot of the time. PopTodd
O.K., after seeing that video, you NEED to hearEXPLODING HEARTS.They sound just like that, but less-polished.In fact, the song that you posted sounds almost exactly like a more-polished version of this song: Not sure who came first, although I would guess the Exp. Hearts did -- 2004 or so.I'll post another video or 2 as soon as the board lets me. HERE'S ANOTHER VIDEO: Because they won't let me post another one just yet.
SarahC
I think Say Anything got their start around 2001 or so. The lead singer is my husband's age, so it's interesting to me that they're sort of my "peers" as far as age goes... most of the bands I listen to are a bit older... it's weird to think about. Digging the Exploding Hearts! Thanks, PopTodd Oh wow, just did a little bit of reading about them... what a bummer about the accident. Damn.
Moss
I would also consider Against Me! The new album is very good (Transgender Dysphoria Blues) and I really like the album "New Wave". They also have a somewhat interesting backstory which helps explain the title of the new album.
dagwave
for me, the Buzzcocks come immediately to mind.

BadScooter
I enjoy most of what the Arkells have done, including their new album High Noon. Definitely more power pop than punk
