That's good --- I thought they did stop streaming official stuff --- Not being able to stream the Europe 72 shows seem criminal.

And who knows about the Soldier Field shows --- I am guessing GD mail order had maybe 10% of the tickets - if that.

Sadly, Ticketmaster lists the Soldier Field shows under the supposedly retired moniker "The Grateful Dead." Oh well.

Just finished my first listen to 8/24/72, one of those under-the-radar shows from that legendary year. Not extraordinary, but a good show with many highlights. Next up: 10/28/72 at the Fox Theatre, another one I have yet to hear. So many shows, so little time...

That 8/24 show has one of my very favorite Dark Star > Morning Dew combos. The Star is unique to my ears in that Keith works the Rhodes in a manner that suggests Chick Corea early RTF-Era, or maybe Zawinul early Weather Report Era. VERY jazzy.

dang, mountain bed, your ears know no boundaries.

worth adding, depending on your frame of mind, that same DS>MD may also reveal "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Happy Birthday" teases.

I will have to give that whole sequence another listen. I must admit, I didn't get all that out of it. Then again, driving and listening is not always the ideal environment...

Right now, I'm looking forward to the Playin’ > Drums > Dark Star > Morning Dew > Playin’ coming up in this 10/18/72 show. Should be pretty righteous.

I know a guy who got tix for all 3 shows which is great for him but he's not even a Head so I kinda think someone more worthy should be getting those tix.

Yeah - that's why I am happy for my friend -- her and her brother were the ones that got me into the Dead and supplied me with tapes in the late 80s and 90s.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people there that are similar. No big deal. Those who get tix should go and enjoy themselves, regardless of age or how many times they saw GD or whatever. Buddy of mine got #87 for tix and my ex got tix, too (both veterans). They're psyched so I am for them. If they'd never seen GD I may even be a little more happy for them, actually.

Really find it a little amusing the fuss being made over these shows. How this can even come close, music and scene, to actual GD shows is beyond me. I have no beef with selling the tix under the GD name, either. There's 2/3 of the band on stage and you need to put something on the tickets.

I don't really care enough about any of it to get wound up, but I am somewhat annoyed that they are using the name that has been retired since '95. They called themselves "The Dead" on previous tours. Why not just go with that again? Why the change of heart, other than for promotional or financial motives? Kinda disappointing.

I don't think I've ever heard that sequence. Better head over to Archive.

I still think the 7.18.1972 dark star (10 minutes before verse) may be the best Jerry soloing I've heard...

High praise, indeed! Good call.

Since it's just 3 shows (supposedly the last ones ever) I guess it's not that big of a deal. If they were doing a tour I'd be a little peeved.
