More from me tomorrow - stunning show in many ways. The Ryman is outstanding - truly incredible venue. Well worth the trip from Vermont. Stoked for more tomorrow and in Knoxville. Tired - long trip getting here...

A few songs I had never heard before in concert, including Solitaire, Cars Can Escape, Promising

i was frustrated on Promising. I knew it hardly had ever been played in concert, and I think they screwed up Nel's pickup, because you could just barely hear his accoustic steel pedal? Very softly played, but classic. Similarly finished with everyone on accoustic, including Mikael (a first for me to see) and Pat on banjo at the edge of the stage in front of their speakers on Misunderstood. Crowd singing along, almost down to a whisper so you could hear them, cause it was truly unplugged. Classic.

I thought the energy of the crowd was a bit subdued to start, and I think playing Solitare 2nd threw them, but the die-hards were eating it up. A few seat neighbors tonight will be with us on the floor tomorrow.

I missed the Austin epic, but this was the first of what appears to be an epic dual concert set in Nashville. Glad I drove up from Houston again (also in 2011). Debating the drive to Knoxville for the trifecta before a pair of Isbell shows at the Ryman on Fri & Sat. What a week of music vacation!

First full band Promising?

I knew this question would come up. I remember they had played it at the last show of the Vic Kicking Television run in 2005 when they were having major technical issues and had to sort of do an impromptu acoustic set. (Jeff also crowd surfed, but that's another story.)

The listing on Wilcoworld (via Wilcobase) also shows they did it at an in-store performance in Minnesota in 1995. That was also likely a stripped-down show. Maybe even a Jeff and Jay acoustic thing.

So to answer the question, it depends on what you define as "full band." Because even last night, even though the full band stayed on stage, I don't think Glenn, John, Pat and Mike really did much, if anything. That's just the nature of the song, and I think it might've sort of been that way in 2005 as well when Jeff just started playing it almost solo when everything was going to hell. At any rate, it's not a song that has been played a lot...

John was definitely adding bass on Promising. :)

Wow what a night. Thrilled we get a chance to see them 2 more times! TN WILCO trifecta! :)

It was awesome to see so many folks from the board last night and even a VC vet from a long long time ago that I never thought I would meet. Very cool. Lots of hugs.

I can't even begin to fathom what tonight's show is going to entail.

That solo acoustic unplugged Misunderstood had me crying. So amazing. I'm glad it ended up on YouTube.

Interesting note; the security made a point before doors to actually say: "take all the still pictures you want". Has Wilco's photo policy changed?

30 songs.... all over the place (pun intended).

Highlights for me were:

- Hearing a song that I've never heard before (Promising)

- The Misunderstood acoustic / off-mic closer, including Jeff being "choir director" on our loudness for the nothings

- Hearing my namesake song (Shot in the Arm), and watching Nels wave his guitar wildly for the ending, while Pat banged out the piano parts and Mikael used a pillow to abuse his keyboard to make amazing sounds.  It's quite a spectacle.

- One Wing... hadn't heard that in a while.  So good.

- Getting both Nels face-melters (Ashes and IG); the lighting was such that Nels looked other-worldly as his eyes rolled back in his head on IG.  Creepy-cool.

And, of course, seeing lots of VCers there, many of whom I hadn't met before.

The boys all seemed to be having a good time, but still not quite what I would call "loose" yet.

Jeff was clean shaven, and there was discussion that he had some form of a haircut.  Hard to tell, especially when he "toweled off" the sweat about halfway in.

He commented that they are playing the exact same set tomorrow (now tonight), cause "those are the only songs we know".  sure.

He also noted that he was planning to restart drinking next year, since Wilco will be 21 and old enough to drink as a band.  He then assured us that he won't be doing that, to which we all applauded loudly.  He thanked us (sarcastically) for approving his future sobriety, but then noted how this was being done by a room full of people drinking as he questioned our sincerity.

ed: he did say that the only thing he would be drinking (if he resumed) would be banana schnapps...

Looking forward to doing it again tonight!  Also hoping for a little more post-show stamina after a day of rest and no travel. :thumbup

Daughter will be joining this evening after a bail-out last night.

Awesome! I just arrived to Nashville. Going tonight, can't wait. Got a 2nd row seat I think (get it from a friend). Really hope for 3 hours tonight :) But set like this with few changes will be fantastic as well.

Got 5 days in Nashville. Wilco tonight and Isbell's 3 nights later on.

Thanks to bbop for the "official" set list and adding "Promising" to my list -

After a good night sleep and a long day of travel - I am ready to go. Off to Grimey's and Third Man Records for sure... drinks and early dinner at Merchants before the show tonight.

This was/is my first experience seeing any live music at The Ryman. Wow! Better than advertised... I was in the balcony and the sight lines and sound were perfect. I am down on the floor tonight - three rows back in the center and am really looking forward to changing it up tonight.

Highlights for me included - Cars, Pick Up the Change, One Wing, Ashes, and How to Fight Loneliness. The Misunderstood was great fun - a little loose, but way cool anyway...

I am hoping for a little more energy tonight - the crowd in the balcony sat for the entire main set (except a small chunk of us in Row H who did not) I agree with post above that Solitaire slowed things down for the not-Wilco faithful. Anyway - off to enjoy the sun and the city. Have fun tonight folks!

He did say that the only thing he would be drinking (if he resumed) would be banana schnapps...

This is obvious choice for sure if you are a one with the very sweet teeth or child making the rubber dummy introduction, but it is not true Swedish way, so I will talk no more about it

Hi Y'all

What a wonderful set list can't wait for the Cap shows! I haven't seen any talk of the Kel Kroydon hitting the stage last night. Did Jeff have it out in the rotation and if so how did it sound with Wilco not Tweedy? Hope everyone has a great run and see y'all at the Cap!
