thejokeexplained
Well I am just fine with watching sports with the sound off. Except for a few obscure calls in any sports (and I'm not that much of a sports nut) you can easily watch a game and know what is going on and not have the intrusion of the announcers killing time. I know everyone is partisan to certain announcers but honestly they add very little in my opinion, unless they are announcing on radio, at which point they are obviously important. I too don't normally need the sound on for games especially football. I prefer to listen to music while watching the games with the TV sound down. World series is a bit of a passion for me, and Buck for the last number of years has almost ruined it for me (Thank God McCarver was fired a few years ago). For tonights game i'm gonna try something a bit different. I will sink my DVR with my sono and the national radio broadcast and see how that works. Except for the glorious inning and a half we got without Buck, i had to endure 5 hours of drivel from the Fox booth. That is enough for this series for me.
thejokeexplained
True. But every broadcaster has moments like that. Jim Nantz does this all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It never works when you tell the audience something they already know while trying to be enlightning! His statement last night should be insulting to anyone that knows the game. Buck got his job for no other reason then nepotism.
LouieB
Repeating myself. I was happier when the other feed was on during the power outage.than when the regular feed was on. Again I am not the most knowledgeable sports fan(ish), but they weren't saying a thing interesting as far as I was concerned and most of the time they were talking complete bullshit I thought. At least if you are going to talk bullshit it might just as well be totally outlandish, rather then stupid and boring. I'm going to see the Old 97s tonight and miss the whole thing. KevinG
Cards fans are not happy. https://twitter.com/bestfansstlouisI can't imagine feeling that level of vitriol towards anyone. Especially a baseball player.
The Inside of Outside
And all for Jason Heyward, who isn't even that good. That's been my thinking all along. Someone was going to overpay for him. Turns out it was the Cubbies.
Winston Legthigh
That's been my thinking all along. Someone was going to overpay for him. Turns out it was the Cubbies. The crazy thing is: they didn't. He had better offers.
The Inside of Outside
AAV of $23 million with Cubs vs. AAV of $25 million with Nats/Cards. I know that WAR fans will argue that Heyward is a steal at that price, but it looks to me like all three were ready to overpay him.
shakes
the cubs gave him two opt outs though, which would likely be far more lucrative than any difference in guaranteed money now. look what greinke did with his opt out. heyward could make a ~$20 million difference seem like nothing if he opts out in three years and cashes in again. i like heyward but im glad the nats got outbid (or strategically underbid, whatever the case). so much of his value is in defense and the hope that he might still become the elite power bat he was projected as. having said that, if money is no issue hed make just about any team better. cubs look pretty impressive right now. KevinG
Pitchers and Catchers reported yesterday (for the Cubs anyway). Spring is just around the corner. 'bout time to start a new baseball thread. Yeah!
