jff
You're all about Trouble In Mind, aren't you? Yeah, I realized that last night when I saw the Trouble In Mind FB page. Someone a few years ago told me their records are cheap, so I bought a Paperhead record on a whim and liked it. Omni is a local band I like, so I would support them regardless of label. But I need to check out more Trouble in Mind bands based on liking those two.

Both have released a ton of great stuff.I recommend Ultimate Painting's 2 records, too. Great stuff.

You and I seem to be the only Cate Le Bon fans here, so I trust your opinion.

TCP
It's kind of early, there's still a few albums coming out this year... I haven't got the new Mavis album either. But I love making lists and I made an active effort this year to seek out new music which I haven't been good about doing in the last decade... so here goes... roughly in order: Benjamin Booker - WitnessKevin Morby - City MusicMac Demarco - This Old DogCourtney Barnett and Kurt Vile - Lotta Sea LiceThe War On Drugs - A Deeper UnderstandingIron & Wine - Beast EpicHiss Golden Messenger - Hallelujah AnyhowRyan Adams - PrisonerBeck - ColorsBig Thief - CapacityFleet Foxes - Crack-UpKacy & Clayton - The Siren's SongWaxahatchee - Out In The StormThat was 13.... this is hard. I also really like the new National, Margo Price, Jen Cloher, and Destroyer records. Also, my list doesn't include new but old music like Neil Young's Hitchhiker or Jeff's solo album of old songs, both of which I thought were great. Plus I don't feel like I gave the New Pornographers a fair enough shake when that came out, so I should probably listen to it again before the year is out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯I will slim this list down before December 31! Or, I will try.

I have never heard of any of these....LOL...I guess I have an opportunity to find some new music (at least for me).

Moss
Have to admit that Slowdive did nothing for me on 1st listen but it's on enough lists I think I will revisit.
lost highway
I feel like I didn't engage enough to hit 10. Some of the ones I like are still on my 'to buy' list, and I still need to listen more. All said, I dig: Big Thief- CapacityRainer Maria- S/THiss Golden Messenger- Hallelujah AnyhowKurt Vile and Courtney Barnett So far I'm feeling kind of disappointed with the new Queens of the Stone Age and the new Ted Leo. I'm not surprised at the mixed bag that is the new Foo Fighters record, so you can't call it disappointment just confirmation bias. The Oh Sees - Orc That record is crazy. It makes me feel stoned when I'm not. Pretty cool stuff though.
PopTodd
Just picked up the new one from Chicano Batman and, after just one listen, I'm thinking that it will probably make my top 10 of the year. Excellent, super cool band.
lost highway
Oh geez, I totally forgot Aimee Mann- Mental Illness and Laura Marling- Semper Femina.
PopTodd
Funny, I think of myself as someone who knows a bit about music and is always looking for new acts to like. I have never heard of any of these....LOL...I guess I have an opportunity to find some new music (at least for me). There is a lot of music out there! We can all only hear a small fraction of it. I guess that is what motivates us to keep being the music geeks that we are; why we keep searching out the new. And why we're here at this board (and others). Gotta learn about more! I am not as big a fan of the new Oh Sees lineup as the previous one, but this record is quite good. he was great on Maron's podcast too.

Chez
IMO, 2017 was just an ok year in music -- the losses overshadowed the new releases. Usually I have a hard time limiting my list to 10, but this year I struggled to come up with 10 worthy of inclusion. 1. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile -- Lotta Sea Lice2. Robyn Hitchcock3. Steve Earle -- So You Wanna Be an Outlaw4. Spoon -- Hot Thoughts5. Hiss Golden Messenger -- Hallelujah Anyhow6. Guided By Voices -- August By Cake7. Ron Gallo -- Heavy Meta8. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit -- Nashville Sound9. LCD Soundsystem -- American Dream10. The Mountain Goats -- Goths I also need to mention that I first discovered several incredible albums for the first time in 2017 even though they were released years ago including: 1. Flaming Lips -- Transmissions from the Satellite Heart2. Vic Chesnutt -- Is the Actor Happy?
