  1. I saw 3EB opening for the Stones on the Bridges to Babylon tour. About the only thing I'd say in their favor is that they seemed to understand how to play to a huge crowd -- for a football-stadium opening act, they didn't do too badly. That said, I was never a fan.
  2. Seems like there are an awful lot of SEC head coaches lately who used to coach other SEC teams (Spurrier, Saban, Nutt ... and now possibly Tuberville? Did I miss anyone?). Here's where I decide not to make a joke about inbreeding in the South.
  3. That was in March. I don't think it matters. He's lost that team. I don't think they'd put out 100% effort for him now if he personally tripled all their salaries. On TNT they said that when Marbury returned to the team after he'd skipped out, the other players voted on whether Marbury should play that night, and the vote was overwhelming that he should not. Isiah ignored the vote and put him in the lineup anyway. If Dolan keeps him on much longer, he really is as much of an idiot as everyone seems to think ... perhaps more of one.
  4. Huh. Whenever their new song comes on the radio, I turn to another station. I guess they're just not my thing.
  5. 104-59. The Knicks are seriously not good. ...which would make me happy in any year, but is especially delicious because it's Isiah at the helm. Suck on that, Isiah. The TNT guys were of the opinion that if he didn't just coach his last game for the Knicks, that game will soon arrive.
  6. It was 1. The punch was an accident ... it was one of my traveling companions, and we were standing on the train platform, gathering our gear together after arriving ... I threw my backpack up over my head and my arm through one of the straps, and her face got in the way. She was OK, but I spent the next couple days apologizing. As for Prince on the same plane ... I never actually saw him, so it might just be a rumor, but some of the people I was traveling with peeked into First Class and swore he was up there.
  7. 1. I was a student crossing guard in elementary school. 2. I punched someone in the face in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. 3. I was once on the same airplane as Prince.
  8. I'll admit that I had to google that second one. They are, in order: Merry Go Round (Mats) Psychopharmacology (PW as Grandpaboy) Now I Wonder (PW)
  9. Impossible to choose, but the first thing to come to mind is the entire song "Here Comes A Regular," in particular: Sometimes I just ain't in the mood To take my place in back with the loudmouths You're like a picture on a fridge that's never stocked with food I used to live at home but now I stay at the house Not sure why, but I always loved that verse.
  10. From Salon.com today: Tell us again why you're retiring, Senator What the headline in the New York Times says: "Lawyer Battling for Katrina Payments Is Indicted." What the first paragraph says: "Richard F. Scruggs, a prominent trial lawyer who has been fighting insurance companies over payments for damage from Hurricane Katrina, was indicted yesterday by federal authorities on charges of offering a bribe of $50,000 to a Mississippi state judge in a dispute over fees with another lawyer." What you'll find if you read all the way down to the eighth paragraph of the story: "Mr. Scruggs, w
  11. I don't want to speak for JAS Backpack, but to me that seems contrary to the whole idea, which is to pick your ten favorite songs of 2007. That shouldn't be subject to anyone else's tastes or collection, just yours. Just my $.02. There are occasional YSI mix exchanges around here for which such tailoring of playlists is actually encouraged. As for whether I'm "in" ... I'll post my ten if I get a chance, but don't pair me up with anyone. I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet, so I have no idea if I'll find the time.
  12. Damn, I forgot to write in Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond. I can't believe NPR doesn't have that on their list. OK, so I just voted for a second time. Once from home, once from work -- that's fair, right? For my second vote, Wilco didn't make the cut.
  13. You can vote for up to five, and they accept write-in votes. I voted for (in no particular order): Andrew Bird Georgie James Iron & Wine Wilco Grant Lee Phillips (write-in)
  14. Truth. I wasn't even aware that some people thought 2 wasn't good.
  15. Ocean's 11-13 Not really, but they were fun.
  16. No, I shook Springsteen's hand after he played a solo acoustic show in Kalamazoo, Michigan a decade or so ago -- but only because I was in the front row and he shook a few people's hands as he left the stage. I have never participated in the theft of a Big Boy statue.
  17. Nope, #2 is true. I was part of an audience of students on a program called "Open to Question" (hosted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who's now a Channel 4 news presenter) that was taped in Glasgow in fall 1988. The guest on that show was the then-new leader of the Moral Majority in the U.S., Jerry Nims, and I caught him contradicting himself about something and called him on it. This many years later, I have no recollection of what, exactly, it was that I tried to nail him on, but I vaguely remember him giving some lame-ass answer in an attempt to change the subject. The best part of that whol
