  1. There are, like, a million Osmonds, right? Marie has a built-in advantage in the voting.
  2. Even the local news programs seem to think we give a shit about the Britneys and Paris Hiltons of the world. People. This is the Detroit area. It's not like there isn't plenty of fucked-up actual news to report.
  3. Sparks never really did much for me. Not bad, just not my thing. Ergo, I wouldn't be attending any of these shows.
  4. Andrew Bird - "Imitosis" Robyn Hitchcock - "Alright, Yeah" Iron & Wine - "Resurrection Fern" Grant Lee Phillips - "Humankind" Jon Auer - "Bottom of the Bottle"
  5. BoingBoing yesterday pointed to an interesting commentary on the Kindle using a series of quotations ... from Jeff Bezos, from the Kindle terms of service, and others ... sort of a caveat emptor in six acts. I suppose there will come a time when a company does one of these things right, but this doesn't sound like that time.
  6. I'm shocked by how many votes "yes" is getting.
  7. For TV series fun, try the Jeeves & Wooster series featuring Hugh "Dr. House" Laurie and Stephen Fry. Renting that (all of it, over a period of a few months) showed me the true potential of Netflix.
  8. That was fantastic. My favorite moment was George picking up the phone at an inopportune moment.
  9. I'm thinking it's just your local one. It's been a while since I've eaten at Wendy's, but it was always a cut or two above every other fast-food burger joint around here ... and the spicy chicken sandwich is yummy2.
  10. This one's hypothetical as in "would never happen," but my vote is "no" anyway. P.S. - My vote changes to "yes" if Glenn Danzig is on vocals.
  11. I think they're getting us all torqued up for when they finally do open locations in our areas. Seriously, their advertising is relentless here ... but I'd have to drive about three hours and into another state to reach one. My father assures me that Cici's is not worth it. He said it was nasty.
  12. Does anyone remember Burger Chef? The logo I remember is this one.
  13. The one on Ypsi is long gone (it's a drive-through coffee place now, I think -- or maybe that's closed now too). I think Whirly Ball left before I moved here (in '99) but I'm not sure -- I've heard people speak of it in wistful, reverent tones. There was a Rax in Kalamazoo where I grew up (it's now the Up And Under pub) and you could get those shakes at the drive-through window. That was evil, in the best possible way -- or maybe fantastic, in the worst possible way.
  14. Yeah, I had a few Hot 'N Now experiences. The burgers weren't much, but they had a few oddities for side dishes that were OK ... Cheezer Pleezers or something like that -- basically deep-fried potato nuggets filled with molten cheese. Wikipedia suggests that there may still be a few Hot 'N Nows open, though I have no idea where. I miss Rax, but not for the food -- only for the blueberry milkshakes.
  15. I do like Jimmy John's. Their vegetarian sub (with that avocado spread) is so yummy that I rarely get their meat subs anymore. Yeah, we're bombarded with Sonic ads here, but there isn't an actual Sonic location within 150 miles. That's why my initial comment in this thread was this: By the way, this is where all the Sonics are: Not one coddamned location in Michigan.
  16. "the biggies" don't include Burger King? My favorite is Sonic, and I've never even been to one.
  17. So, how long before I start receiving spam with subject lines like "Stem cell breakthrough: add inches to your manhood"?
  18. I have no way of knowing whether this is true, but it's been suggested that the lull in violence comes as the insurgents are busy planning a major offensive. I certainly hope that's not true ... those folks deserve a little peace and quiet and security.
  19. I totally don't get this. He has two issues on which I agree with him, but aside from those two issues, he's as right-wing as right-wing gets.
