  1. Jackson Browne - Sing My Songs to Me / For Everyman The Police - Driven to Tears / When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around
  2. It's like having to choose a favorite child blah blah fuckity.
  3. I love Amazon's "used or new" feature. I've bought a lot of stuff that way, and have also discovered many retailers who I've gone on to buy more stuff from. The good people at Motown definitely could have learned a thing or two from Mr. Mayfield. What strikes me about these recordings (aside from them just being all-around great) is how fantastic the arrangements are: there aren't many of those cheesy string sections that mar so many of the Motown singles (and the few times they do appear, they're sufficiently down in the mix that they don't dominate). Maybe OKeh didn't have the money to hi
  4. I saw him on stage back in the '70s. That was before it became socially acceptable to torment mimes.
  5. Your best chance at Zingerman's is if you arrive while the game's still going on. Downtown Ann Arbor experiences a lull during home games, but before and after it's completely overrun with maize-and-blue-clad morons. Hopefully you'll be able to park within a half mile of Z's. If you run into too much of a crowd at Zingerman's, there are several other good places downtown, closer to the venue, that aren't as popular with the MABCMs. Wendy's probably going to call me when people are preparing to gather, and I might come on down and join the crowd. If it's Zingerman's, you might want to orde
  6. Believe it or not, I'm not going. I was slow off the mark to get tickets. (It's OK, I've seen Ryan three times already.) I may end up meeting some VCers beforehand for dinner, however.
  7. Once you hear it, you may decide otherwise. It's really good.
  8. I love how you make completely unfounded assumptions about people based on gross generalizations that aren't even true. I don't care in the slightest that it was a Kerry event. I'm really not a Kerry fan anyway. I recognize that there is a certain contingent who are predisposed to cutting extra slack to those who share their political views, but it's worth pointing out that those people are right-wingers at least as often as they are not (possibly more so). Just watch Fox News for a while, you'll see what I mean. An asshole's an asshole, regardless of where he's doing his assholing.
  9. You've obviously heard it. Why don't you comment.
  10. Wikipedia implies it did. (Not exactly definitive/authoritative, I know, but...)
  11. Yeah. I think he's an old friend of my sister-in-law and is now also a good friend of my brother, though I may have that backwards. I've met him once or twice while visiting (my brother and his family live in the D.C. area). His own bands were pretty good, too -- Smart Went Crazy and Beauty Pill. I think Beauty Pill may still be functioning.
  12. And then there's Only Life, which just might be their best.
  13. I love the dude in the background yelling "police brutality! Rodney King!" He wins the Word Association award. Dude was probably four years old when the Rodney King beating happened.
  14. Eventually you'll all figure out that this TDW/.... guy is the dude in that video. Bro.
  15. I'll send $5 to the first person who can turn JUDE's avatar into Scarlet Johansson getting tasered on her rack while she yells "don't taze me, bro!"
  16. That one woman who was a judge on that dancing show getting tasered.
  17. Especially if that dude is tall, and standing.
  18. The guy has a point, but I'm still not going to loathe TicketBastard any less. I do hate StubHub and their ilk far, far more, though. And I wish craigslist would do away with their Tickets category. It's laughable the way that category gets used. You should see all of the U-M football tickets that are listed there right now (on the Ann Arbor craigslist, naturally) at $1 -- because it's really "make me an offer," a.k.a. scalping. And don't even try to buy concert tickets there. There's been some asshat trying to con people into buying non-existent Ryan Adams tickets for the past three week
  19. This, from a native of the Land of Road Bowling.
  20. Let's revisit that statement on Sunday afternoon ... or sooner, most likely.
  21. Though I suppose it's arguable that it was "whining about" rather than "expressing outright disdain for," it was only one post and it slagged the Red Sox nearly as much as the Yankees. So what's your point, exactly? Also: go Cubs.
