  1. This thread is great! I'm never reading again!
  2. That wasn't half bad. Maybe now that Weezer's a novelty act, I can start to take them seriously.
  3. I read the opening chapter and then duct taped the book shut. No I didn't, but it was painful to read so I stopped.
  4. I think "Ashes" and "Reservations" could've been done better, but yeah, great album.
  5. Speaking of non-Drag City, Drag City is coming out with Luc Ferrari CD in a few weeks, always meant to pick up/find something by him. http://www.dragcity.com/products/les-arythmiques
  6. Maybe David Lynch should have directed WTWTA! Hmm, doesn't star a woman-in-trouble, though. Oh well. I don't have much else to offer here besides to each his/her own. I felt very little after the opening sequence of this movie, and I'd like to think it isn't because I've lost my inner child or that my heart runs cold. I picked up on how the Things relate to Max's mind, the real world/fantasy world connections. I didn't need a grand adventure story (though I wanted them to have a little more fun), and I didn't need a lesson learned or some obvious step towards adulthood. I wanted depth
  7. Stay tuned for my next thread, where I will pronounce hidden tracks as generally being lame.
  8. I think it's more when the song title could easily lose them. For example: why can't a title like "I love you (so much)" be "I love you so much", or "(One of these days) I'm going to Denny's" do the same thing or just shorten it to "I'm going to Denny's". It can also be annoying when it seems like an alternate title, or something that looks tagged on for mystique. Wilco-specific: I give Spiders (kidsmoke) a pass because I have an idea about its context, it's a song that went through revisions and without thinking too hard about meaning here, it looks like the song "kidsmoke" was put into
  9. Hmm, see I like 'Some Time in NYC' and 'Whatever Gets You Thru The Night'. I also like McCartney, Wings, etc. I'm starting to think it's unfair to compare their solo careers, because I think they were after different things. Actually, that probably started halfway through their Beatles career.
  10. which jacket belongs to whom?
  11. With the way Wilco does vinyl, I think this would be an optimistic projection: Disc 1 Side One: 1. Misunderstood 2. Company in My Back Side Two: 1. The Late Greats 2. Hell is Chrome 3. Handshake Drugs Disc 2 Side One: 1. IATTBYH 2. A Shot in the Arm Side Two: 1. ALTWYS 2. Wishful Thinking 3. Jesus, Etc. Disc 3 Side One: 1. ITMWLY 2. Kicking Television Side Two: 1. Via Chicago 2. Hummingbird 3. Muzzle of Bees Disc 4 Side One: 1. One by One 2. Airline to Heaven 3. Radio Cure Side Two: 1. Ashes of American Flags 2. Heavy Metal Drummer Disc 5 Side One: 1. Poor Places 2.
  12. The Beta Band - 'Outside' Tried to write a song today, the devil knows I couldn't get far...
  13. Invalid for your methods of movie-going, but it was godawful. Concessions: Visually great shots, and however they did the costumes/CGI was well done, this movie could have held a strong tone with the design if it wasn't all over the place. I was completely on board with this movie literally until Max meets the Wild Things, who aren't Wild but Morose, Neurotic and at times Sociopathic Things. I could tell Jonze/Eggers were really trying to get inside the head of a kid, and they almost did, which is admirable, but "horseshoes and hand-grenades", because coming close and failing is still fa
  14. Hey, hey, let's leave home made flying balloons out of this.
  15. My vote goes to Pavement, because their career really fits into the decade, and they're great.
  16. Wes Anderson is a sociopath...some say. Fur flies on 'Mr. Fox'
  17. what does OTM stand for? On the mark? To me, Embryonic is like hearing the early era Lips except they know much more musically in how to get themselves across. This record is so much more about conveying feeling and letting the song take form rather than constructing a song and trying to get something out of it. If that makes sense.
  18. I'd give more credit to the album actually being released. edit: I see that point has already been made.
  19. Just saw them on Conan, great performance of "Watching the Planets". There's such a nervous energy to that song that floors me.
