  1. I bought it on my lunch hour today and it looks like that book will be hard to put down. I'm actually halfway through another book of his right now.
  2. Unfortunately, the shame and secrecy surrounding mental illness and addiction often prevents people from getting the help they need. I think Jeff is helping to fight that stigma by being so honest and open about his own experiences and offering hope to people who are in pain. I'm sorry that he had to suffer for so long before he found the right kind of help (horror stories about unethical therapists always make me angry). I'm glad that the healthy part of him was able to create such amazing music during this time and continues to flourish. I've always been fascinated by the therapeutic eff

    SNL!

Or thought it was an homage to Mike Mills. (Those suits really are beautiful works of art.)
  5. The commentary is what I enjoy most about DVDs in general.
  6. I watched IATTBYH again in 2006 at a record fair in Chicago while I was waiting for Sam and Paul. The movie was playing in a back room and I was the only one there. It was the day after the private show at the Hotel S&S. I remember feeling amazed at the unexpected course my life had taken between that first viewing and the present. So many adventures and friendships inspired by one band. ... And many more to come, I hope!
  7. Natalie would love this. It's another way to keep her memory alive in the communities that she cared about... I believe that we all carry a little piece of her spirit in our hearts.
  8. I saw IATTBYH at the Ridge Theatre in Vancouver several nights in a row. I didn't know any Wilco fans at the time, but I managed to drag my friend Stacy along on one occasion. I remember that someone in the audience was wearing a tiara.
  9. Anxiety is like a fire. If you fuel it w/ worry or fan the flames by paying attention to uncomfortable symptoms ("OMG my heart is pounding so hard I'm gonna have a heart attack!"), it will burn with greater intensity. The best thing you can do is ignore it (distract yourself with an activity that requires your complete attention, like a puzzle, counting backward in multiples of 7, etc.) and it will begin to smoulder and eventually cool. If you can do this, anxiety should reach it's peak and then subside within approx 15-20 min. Hypnosis, guided relaxation CDs, and deep breathing can help y
  10. It's not about winning, it's about holding the Dem's feet to the fire. And they don't like that. If Edwards or Kucinich had won the nomination, Nader would not run against them in 2008. (He endorsed Edwards.)

  13. I remember that too. Totally hardcore!
  14. And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
  15. I miss those smiling faces more than ever! Great pics (as always), Charles. Thanks for sharing those!
  16. Now that's hardcore! I can't believe I'm missing all the fun... AGAIN! Whaaa, whaaa, etc. (Yet I continue to torture myself by reading these threads and lurking on Flickr.)
  17. There's actually quite a lot of research that supports this. link
  18. Well, refusing to broadcast the V Tech shooter's "call to arms" would have been a good start. The major US networks ignored the threat to public safety in favour of ratings and actually helped him carry out his crime by broadcasting that video, IMO. The guy obviously hoped that a lot of people would see it, identify with him, and follow in his footsteps. Media collusion was an important part of his twisted plan. The killer wanted the body count to continue long after he was gone... and it will. Here's what I said then.
  19. This is probably a controversial idea, but I believe that higher journalistic ethics re: reporting the Virginia Tech story may have reduced the contagion effect a little. It's the journalist's job to tell the story, but the way the story is told can have a big impact. The big US networks have really lowered the bar, IMO. Your thoughts, bjorn?
