  1. I think Toronto and Winnipeg are pretty safe bets. I'm crossing my fingers for Vancouver. (And as a proud mama, I just want to take this opportunity to brag that my 22 month old daughter can sing the chorus of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart." )
  2. I agree, Eric. This seems more like an unintentional parody of the far-right.
  3. It's funny, just the other day I was thinking that we haven't had a good Bigfoot hoax in awhile. This is so 70's!
  4. Our climate is very similar to Seattle. The ocean cools us in the summer and warms us in the winter. Fortunately, the city is at the base of the mountains, so we can enjoy the snow on the slopes (and the views), but don't have to shovel our driveways very often. I think most (all?) of the alpine events will take place in Whistler, which is a 2 hour drive from Vancouver.
  5. They've also been busy landscaping the Olympic Village for the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
  6. Nice sleuthing, Paul. Thanks! *giddy one note guitar solo*
  7. Okay, now I'm officially excited (against my better judgement). Please let this be true!
  8. Oh, man. I promised myself that I wouldn't get my hopes up because it's highly unlikely they'd play Vancouver (which both Neil and Wilco skip more often than not), but I would be over the moon if they toured together. I saw Neil (acoustic and electric) many times in the early-mid 90s, but I haven't had the pleasure since the Greendale tour. It's time.
  9. It would be cool if they ended up in jail, though. "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." Unfortunately, since their views are "the expression of a religious opinion," that probably lets them off the hook.
  10. I hesitate to bump this thread but... WTF! Church members enter Canada, aiming to picket bus victim's funeral
  11. An affair doesn't have to spell the end. Some couples are able to find opportunity in crisis and (with some work) it might even bring them closer together. And for some spouses, it may not even be a deal breaker. Perhaps they have an "open" arrangement? It's none of our damn business either way.
  12. Okay, I might watch the CBC coverage just for this! I guess that's the only place left to go after you detonate a nuclear bomb in LA on the last season of 24.
  13. Remember the SNL skit where Chris Farley interviews Paul McCartney? That was awesome! (Because it's true. )
  14. The 2008 mascots are cute, but are even cuter! Plus, they recycle! I'm getting excited about the 2010 Olympics because the school that I work at is going to be closed during the games. (They need our parking lot.) Should be total madness.
  15. It was put to great use in Atom Egoyan's Exotica, too.
  16. I never thought I'd see the Maneki Neko on a Nudie suit! Obviously an East meets West shout-out to the hardcore Asian fanbase.
  17. I also think it's worth noting that once everyone else was safely off the bus (there were children on board, from what I understand), the driver, one of the passengers, and a trucker (who stopped to help) returned to try to assist the victim, but it was too late. If the poor guy was stabbed in the throat with a hunting knife while he was sleeping, it's likely that he was mortally wounded by the time people heard his screams. It's very sad, but I'm glad that the rest of the passengers survived to return home to their loved ones. It's natural to feel angry and disgusted when you hear about s
  18. Good advice. Stock up on everything you can find on Smithsonian Folkways, too.
