Wow, apparently this is the only one in Canada and it's about a 20 min drive from my house. Sweet!

There's one in Coquitlan, BC!

Steve Albini "dishes" on a poker forum?
Dreamin' replied to Dr. Steve Brule's topic in Someone Else's Song
I guess it was posted on MetaFilter as well. (I don't need to read MeFi anymore because VC is like a MetaFilterFilter.) It's too bad, because the interlopers sort of killed the thread. Speaking of Steve Albini and boards quoting other boards, Jake posted this on GloNo a few months ago. -

How do you find this stuff, Sam? -
That Lincoln guy sounds like a Commie.

There's a lot to be said for holding them accountable for the shit they've pulled. If Bush & Co. continue to get a free pass, it sends a very scary message to future leaders: do whatever you want because the American people are completely powerless to stop you. Double plus ungood!

jnickerson's true identity is finally revealed! I had to laugh at the list of typical Canadian celebrities: the host of Hockey Night in Canada, a singer-songwriter, and a left-wing documentary filmmaker who works for the CBC.

I stand corrected!

Thanks for the heads up, Kalle. This guy was a former MuchMusic VJ too. I wonder why it's impossible to find a pic of JD Roberts mullet anywhere on the Internet? I notice that MM never shows old clips from the 80's with him in them. Perhaps he destroyed all the old tapes and had his former coworkers killed to avoid the embarassment? The Hour is easily one of the most intelligent shows on the air. George won me over when he did the Tommy Douglas pitch on that "Greatest Canadian" show. His interview with June Callwood just before she died was amazing. I cried. Seriously.

I know it would certainly warm my heart.

And this! I bet there are going to be some awesome kitchen parties and lobster suppers when they get to the Maritimes. Maybe Jack will kiss a cod! -

More food for thought.

To paraphrase the great Tommy Douglas, watch out for the big guy with an idea! Let's just hope we can hang on to what we've got. With increasing pressure to allow more privatization, NAFTA could open the door to HMOs that would bleed our public system dry. Profit is not the cure!

This is just so cool.

Wow, this sounds like me almost 15 years ago when I was in grad school and wanted to be taken seriously. Now that 40 is just over the horizon (crap!), it doesn't seem quite as appealing.

Didn't someone spot him rocking out last year too?

Oh, and for anyone who loves Indian food, but doesn't have time to hang out at Vij's waiting for a table, there's always Rangoli right next door.

Shota on Yew St. (in Kerrisdale) has some really amazing "famous rolls", but it's a bit out of the way and maybe a little overpriced. I haven't eaten sushi downtown for years, but I think most places have pretty affordable lunch specials. You might find what you're looking for here: Sushi Guide.

Checked the Ticketmaster site today out of curiousity and it looks like there are plenty of tix left. Most people here probably know that I'm a frustrated would-be tour guide since my American friends rarely venture this far north, so if you're traveling here for the show, don't hesitate to send me a PM if you want restaurant recommendations, etc. Vancouver is a great city for food lovers - we have Iron Chef winners (Rob Feenie), the guy who invented the inside out roll (Hidekazu Tojo), my all time fave, Vij's, and La Casa Gelato, which is not to be missed. Be sure to spend some time expl

I think there are different configurations with the option of reserved seating, but all the tix listed on Ticketmaster were GA.

Yes, thanks for that. Your post reminded me about James Kim, the father who died trying to save his family when they got lost in the Oregon wilderness last fall. I don't know if it was the postpartum hormones and sleep deprivation, but I cried about that for days. Every time the going got tough with my little one in those early months, I thought about his courage and sacrifice. WWJKD?

When something so tragic happens, I think the raw emotion and free floating blame just comes with the territory. The world can be a random, cruel place. Let's be gentle with each other.
