  2. True. Commercial suicide (in the US) is their MO, it seems... or perhaps after 15 years they're just resigned to their fate. Interview with Andrew
  3. www.myspace.com/sloan "Fading Into Obscurity" is great. Nice to see them back on murderecords too!
  4. It's in the Urban Dictionary. I've also heard it referred to as "ego surfing."
  5. $9.32 for international shipping. "If you specified international delivery (if available), your package will arrive 2-4 weeks from the release date."
  6. Stars Set Yourself on Fire is another great break-up album. Songs: "Dead Flowers" - Rolling Stones "Will to Love" - Neil Young (and at least 50% of the songs on Chrome Dreams that eventually turned up on other albums) "All Things Must Pass" - George Harrison "Ruin My Day" - Jon Brion "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye" - Leonard Cohen "Let It Die" - Feist "The saddest part of a broken heart Isn't the ending so much as the start."
  7. It's never too late for a little CanLove... Sam!
  8. More belated birthday wishes coming your way.
  9. I've always loved the outro of Cinnamon Girl because it's so giddy. "Whoo!"

  11. Looks like the Reuters error is starting to take on a life of its own. I wonder how the other Jeff Tweedy feels? http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/busines...1b31school.html
  12. Sorry I'm late to the party. Here's a picture of "some public art thing" in honour of your b-day. Paul!
  13. In other news... Warren Jeffs Arrested in Nevada
  14. I think I've told this story before, but I heard an audience recording of Laminated Cat (from one of the St. Ann's Warehouse shows in 2002) playing over the speakers in the ladies room at the Fifth Avenue Cinema in Vancouver. This was before the first Loose Fur album was released. I thought I was halucinating.
  15. Amen to that! Vancouver has a pretty respectable indie scene as well - e.g., The New Pornographers, AC Newman, Destroyer, Black Mountain, Pink Mountaintops, young & sexy, etc. (Okay, so maybe we're still famous for grow-ops.)
  16. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Actually, Martin Short did a great impersonation of Trudeau on SCTV.
  17. I was just about to ask about your trip up the coast. Welcome to BC (a.k.a., British California).
  18. I guess if there's a silver lining, it's that this creep is no longer working with children and one would hope that all the media attention may prevent him from doing so in the future (unless he gets that sex change operation and flees to another part of the world). I suppose now he will be extradited to California to face charges for possession of child pornography. Unfortunately, that probably won't keep him off the streets for long.
  19. I know there must be a joke in there somewhere, but I don't get the reference. Nice! That was one of the highlights for me.
  20. I visited Amsterdam about 10 years ago, so it's been too long to recommend cafes and bars. It's a great city to explore on foot or by bicycle. If you're an art lover, the Stedelijk (modern art), Rijksmuseum, and of course the Van Gogh Museum are a must. I found the Anne Frank Huis very moving - I read The Diary of a Young Girl on the long flight over from the west coast of Canada, so it was fresh in my mind, and some little details (like seeing the clock tower from the attic window) gave me goosebumps.
  21. "You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows." Jeff!
