  1. My birthday is the 12th so I guess this is a no brainer. Here's hoping for Loose Fur and Golden Smog sets.
  2. Jeff: When was the last time we were in Richmond Me: '97, 13 years ago Jeff: 13 Years. 1997, You must be from here sir Me: Shaking hand at Jeff as although I lived in Richmond for a long time, I'm not from there At that point his attention shifts from me down to the aforementioned guy and the "You weren't even born in '97" comment. Jeff had been sitting that guy and one or two others on fire with his eyes for most of the night. At one point he looked directly in the the direction where some of us were standing and told someone to shut up. I though he was fucking with Charles (the photographe
  3. They would wait until the night after I leave the tour to do "In the Street." Now if they do "September Gurls" next I'll truly be bent out of shape. Good luck with the rest of those tertiary market GA shows Paul.
  4. It was 36 total songs and 3 hours on the dot. Certainly one of the longest shows I've ever seen. The Sesame street outtasite transitioning from the acoustic back to the full band for misunderstood was a knockout. Paul (who would surely know) seemed to think it was a first for someday, some morning, sometime. it's funny 'cause I recognized it immediately even though I was scrambling my brain trying to remember if I'd only heard it solo. So that was very cool, can't stand it, not for the season, and monday were other certain highlights. And it's nice to hear the old spiders again after so many y
  5. I'm trying to rally folks for lunch in downtown Richmond today. 1 pm at Cafe Ole, between Main and Franklin streets on 6th in downtown Richmond. It's only a few blocks from the National. Anyhow it's a great burrito joint that was one of my favorite haunts during my 13 years living here. I'll be the one wearing an Avett Brothers hat. Cheers, Greg
  6. if you still have it call me at: 502-338-3825. i can meet you anywhere in richmond, thanks, greg
  7. From Richmond's Style Weekly Magazine: Mark Linkous 1962-2010 by Richard Foster Richmond musicians, friends and family held a memorial at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden last weekend for departed rock star Mark Linkous, who on March 6 lost his lifelong battle with clinical depression in an alley outside a friend’s home in Knoxville, Tenn. Distraught after receiving an upsetting text message, the former Richmonder left the house and shot himself in the heart. Linkous, who was 47, recorded four influential, country-tinged alt-rock albums of haunted melodies under the name Sparkleh
  8. Big bummer. Never saw him in any capacity, though I've been a fan for close to 20 years now. What a major talent. I'll pull out the vinyl this weekend.
  9. That upcoming Richard episode is somethin I've been waiting a long time for. High hopes for that ep after a so so one this week.
  10. Excellent news! Now on to "Mermaid Avenue 2" the complete YHF demos and "More Like the Moon". Only then will my Wilco vinyl cravings be truly satisfied.
  11. Not to be that guy, but it may go down as the last great Wilco record, as I certainly think it's Major League vs double AA for the last two.
  12. Just spoke to an old friend in Richmond and it sounds like folks are pretty shaken up, also and not to make light of the situation in any way, but people there in the know said that he had been battling a heavy drug addiction for quite some time now. It could certainly be a component, one way or another though, still tragic news.
  13. Anthrax had a few songs with social commentary lyrics as well. Helloween I never did like.
  14. I saw package tours with Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Exodus and Helloween circa '89 and '90. Two seperate tours, one the Headbangers Ball tour and the other was called Clash of the Titans tour, I just can't remember which combo played with eachother after all of these years. Also Alice in Chains opened one of them on their first national tour and were not very well received at all, I thought they were pretty good, but damn I really loved Exodus and especially their "Fabulous Disaster" album, thinking man's metal for sure. Both of these shows and dozens more were at the Louisville Gardens in dow
  15. I was always proud to say that Sparklehorse were from Richmond when I lived there, though they rarely played shows there, it was certeinly an event when they did. Not to go off topic too much, but I've been up close and personal with suicide on multiple occasions in my life and it's such a totally devastating thing to have to go through. I can respect someone's right to do so, as I'm a big proponet of free will, but I speak from experience when I say it's without question the most self-absorbed action a person can ever commit. So, why I am saddened by this news, I'm more angered for what I kno
  16. Not to be too obvious, and I do have several of the early albums, but "Tiny Dancer" was always my favorite, and when "Almost Famous" came out with that just perfect singalong scene on the bus it took that song to a whole other level for me. I can't think of better use of a song in any movie. I almost cried watching that scene for the first time, it's just spot on.
  17. I think Christian is no more. MIB used Christian's body to steer Locke into the direction that was necessary for him to evntually assume Locke's body. I think that's all there is to that. As to Richard, I feel like we'll probably get some back story on him, the black rock and the earlier days of Jacob v MIB. Also what of Widmore? He's bound to play a role before this is all over.
  18. Other than Claire, all of the other Losties with MIB (directly or indirectly) are people who have killed other people in their pre-island past: Sawyer, Jin, Kate, Sayid. I don't know if this is coincidental or not, but it's something I noticed that seems important. Players that we've yet to see that are surely coming are Widmore and Desmond. Also I'm still hoping for some Black Rock / Richard back story. great ep last night, not a big answer episode, but things are starting to shape up for the home stretch.
  19. Louie, Yeah it was a good crowd, maybe 200. But it's one of those places where a lot of regulars come every weekend regardless of who is playing, so ti's hard to tell how many were there for the BR's. The majority of the crowd was seated or in the back, with maybe 25 or so down front. I did stand right at the front of the 3' high stage throughout.
  20. Well, I won't go as far as saying I didn't like them, and I really hate the venue they played at, but I guess I left feeling sort of lukewarm. They were all very good players and the songs were almost without exception catchy, I don't know I just didn't get bowled over. Granted I've only ever heard a handful of songs, so that unfamiliarity certainly played a role. Ultimately I think I felt about like I do when I see Son Volt, I like that one song they play, but they play it all night long. I'd certainly be willing to see the BR's again in a better environment.
  21. Sounds like it's unanimous! Looks like I'll be going.
  22. I'm leaning towards seeing them here tonight in Louisville, mostly for the UT/Wilco connection and was wondering what to expect. It's a somewhat late show at a place that I don't particularly like and I know they've been around for a long time, I'm wondering how they are live these days and if it'll be worth my while? Anyone?
  23. Yr obviously much more of an expert than I on the issue, but it's a damn fine song.
  24. So sorry we couldn't meet up a few weeks back, I got all laid up in the hospital and whatnot. Have a wonderful day and let's do see eachother someday soon.
  25. Just got my GA for Nashville. It looks like a rather large place. MMJ tickets are getting way expensive these days. $67 with shipping and fees. Hopefully they'll unveil some new songs for us after such a long break.
