  1. Are you talking about the Grateful Dead Guide? http://deadessays.blogspot.com/
  2. Yeah - the Cubs are going to have uphill battle. Parents sure can be so annoying...... Steinberg has a nice piece regarding the NATO weekend. http://www.suntimes....y-expected.html
  3. Thayer definitely has an annoying demeanor - which good I guess for his line of work. I have enjoyed his interviews the months leading up to the summit. It's a nice gesture by Reinsdorf (the cynic in me sees some type of tax break for the organization in the future, though, but better them than the Cubs ).
  4. The White Sox are giving every police officer two tickets for their service during the NATO summit. I think it would have been cool if they gave some to some of the demonstration organizers, too (Even to Andy Thayer - though I think Andy would choose to sit at the other end of the park). http://www.chicagotr...0,2833221.story Now if White Sox could start beating the Twins, that would be great, too.....

    Big Star

Okay, perhaps I shouldn't admit to this, but when I read this I thought "That's where I heard that song before!" Big Star is on that list of bands (which is getting a little too long) that I haven't delved into, yet. John did sound great, singing.
  6. Even some said thanks (and sorry). http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/natosummit/chi-nato-commute-protests-052112,0,3033341.story
  7. Finally gotten around and bought Knocked out Loaded and Down in the Groove - Loaded is pretty much crap, love the title of the record though. I enjoy Down in the Groove, though. Definitely not anywhere near his best, but I enjoy listening to each track. Also found the Japan cd singles of Not Dark Yet and Things Have Changed. Each of the discs has 3 additional live songs. Tears of Rage on the Not Dark Yet disc and HIghlands on the Things Have Changed are the highlights. Best part is that I paid $4.99 for and $5.99 for the other, I see they are going for a bit more in the marketplace. I real
  8. That was great, Beck is the best - I can watch and listen to Tal Wilkenfeld all day - she makes the goofiest faces. I though Jagger sounded good, too. He should have performed that song at the White House a couple of months back.
  9. That's Keith's criticism of many rock groups, too. I think he made that comment about Nirvana in the early 90s. I haven't gotten around to watch any of the performances, yet.
  10. The whole cd is great - well worth the search, I think it oop.
  11. Things got a little rougher today, but I think all went well. 50 something arrests. I also don't see an issue with a large amount of police - I think it leads to less arrests, plus I don't want my city tore to pieces, like Seattle, where they only had about 900 police to handle the G-8, compared to 12,000 or so that were on call here in Chicago. It was interesting to see our Superintendent of Police right behind the front lines near the McCormick Place when the fracas really started. If the shit (really) got out of hand the cameras would have had him right in the shot. Speaking of cameras - al
  12. Well, I guess it was Ward's doing. The set-list from last night's gig looks great - kinda surprised it's not up on Dime, yet.
  13. Don't think I ever watched the below before - would be great to find the source. (Noticed from the comments that is from the Backstage Pass video - now I am really hoping they sell that one separately from the recent box release.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_8obCnsw4c
  14. http://archive.org/details/gd93-05-26.sbd.miller.27776.sbeok.flacf Listening to May 26, 1993 this afternoon - Vince plays really well throughout and Weir sings great. Great playing all around, especially the Playin'. The reviewer in the Taper's book wrote that people consider this was the last great Grateful Dead show. I never gotten around to purchase the Road Trips from this show. Below are Blair's liner notes. http://www.gdreferencesite.com/rt24.html
  15. http://www.chicagotr...0,7539852.story Now it does appear that they had a search warrant, with regards to my earlier comment about the three arrested. It is interesting that those same three people were ticketed last week and they videoed the event and put it out on YouTube - the officers were not shown in a good light. I live a block away from Obama's house in Chicago, my wife and I were wondering if some of the protest were going to make it down here - so far, not. Emanuel's house was a supposed target (police headquarters and Obama's re-election campaign office were two others) of the t

  17. Well, so far, so good. A few scuffles, perhaps a unwarranted arrest of three potential "terrorists", and a police officer fell of his bike. That's a nice shot, above, I don't think there is a better flag than Chicago's.
  18. Wasn't Wood's signing announced during the Cub's convention, too? Definitely more of a PR move - which is fine - baseball is a business. Great player, as well as a great person (charity work and all). It's a shame the him and Prior never were to maintain their initial greatness.
  19. Both Parks and Rec. and Community have been great this season - which is good because the Office and 30 Rock have not.
  20. http://www.blacksabbath.com/ It's like Where's Waldo (Bill Ward). Never understood why bands have to do this. Stones do this with Wyman all the time - eliminate him from pictures. At least Ward is still mentioned in the History section.
  21. I would say so - the whole NATO meetings may be factor. I have never been a fan of the Cub/Sox series, anyway.
  22. That's pretty cool about the food and drink - plus the cheap tickets. That would never fly here in Chicago, at either ball park.
  23. Former White Sox pitcher and coach died yesterday. Probably not many people (outside of White Sox fans and south-side Chicagoians) heard of him, but he has a great back story on how he got in the majors. Those uniforms (middle of the picture) are my all time favorite Sox uniforms, mostly because those were ones they were wearing when I first started going to games (late 70s), also I think they look cool as hell. Below is a rather long article, but worth the read. http://www.suntimes.com/12569512-417/kevin-hickey-a-long-shot-who-fulfilled-a-neighborhood-dream-dies-at-56.html
