  1. Hey Lou, I did find a trailer/clip of the U of C interview/performance that the filmmakers put together (see below). It doesn't look that WBEZ has yesterday's segment up, yet. Wish I made it down to the New Apartment more (only went twice), especially since it was so close to my place. He definitely was an interesting player. Would be cool to hear some of his stuff when he played with Jimmy Reed, but thus far I can't dig up any recordings.
  2. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-von-freeman-dies-chicago-jazz-music-20120813,0,4655061,full.column LouieB should be the one starting this thread. Sad day for the Chicago jazz scene - he has been quite sick as of late (and quite old), so obviously not a surprise. Glad I caught him live a few times. WBEZ had a very nice segment this afternoon.
  3. Like Springsteen - what an "abortion" ..... (i keed, i keed)
  4. Rock Springs was a book I had to read in a college course --- great, great book. Speaking of Colorado - Kent Haruf (while at Southern Illinois University) was the one who assigned Rock Springs - Kent wrote a couple of books set in Colorado - both worth reading. Speaking of SIU, I am reading the below book - this is her first book of short stories - she is mostly writes poetry and also has a book of essay that focuses on her Multiple sclerosis . Not only is she a great writer - she was a great teacher. - Man, SIU had a great creative program in the early nineties. Rodney Jones and Ricardo Cruz
  5. http://www.moogis.com/moogislive/ Moogis is running the Peach Fest today and tomorrow.
  6. Same here - amusing as hell. I need to make it over to Sweden some day. The Oberhofer dude took it all in stride - which I thought was cool of him.
  7. Seems like a nice late Friday afternoon choice.
  8. I am having fun with the Google homepage activities.
  9. It started in 1967-8: George Wilcken Romney - go figure. Why? I suppose just for the "full disclosure" reasons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney
  10. Though I had it on, I had stuff going on during the first part so I did not catch a lot of it - the bit with Hidalgo was pretty cool - never heard the 58 Strat story before - it is a bit of a bummer that the guitar had a string missing. I missed Micky Hart's bit and the only time I saw Keys was while he was jamming with 7 Walkers - I am not sure if he gave an interview. I didn't catch any rude comments, though - hoping to catch it again in its entirety, though. I did catch quiet a bit of the performance - unfortunately I thought it was a little underwhelming - a bit boring if you will. It wa
  11. Speaking of dough, now there is going to be new Garcia series. I was never a huge fan of this version of JGB - mainly because of the keyboards. http://jerrygarcia.shop.musictoday.com/Product.aspx?cp=640_57727&pc=JYCD49
  12. Well I never considered myself as a "Deadhead with deep pockets" - more so a sucker for a cool box-set - I do enjoy the books that come with these types of sets - the other stuff I can do without. $200 is a lot of dough, though. I think the Dead organization is as involved with this set as Rhino is. Came across the below today - I don't think I ever seen it before - pretty fun/different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Ndlmko_ek&feature=related
  13. Nope - alive and kicking - he has a new auto-bio out. Haven't gotten around to it, yet. I heard that he sat in with either 7-Walkers or another Dead related band, the night after the Vibes fest.
  14. http://dead.net/spring1990 The next box set installment.
  15. That's great - this is why I was supporting Chicago in their quest for the 2016 Summer games. To get to the proposed structure that would have hosted the opening ceremony and other events would have been a 10 minute walk for me. Sure it would have been a headache, with the construction and all the other tangibles that go with hosting the games, but It would have been great to take my kids to some Olympic games, plus all the shots of London on the TV have been great - would have been great to see Chicago in the spotlight, too... Hope you enjoy games, Mrs. S.P. And congrats to Phelps! The wh

  17. "abortion" (the Stones bit in the New Yorker article is the only part I didn't enjoy - seemed out of place and forced - but who cares.)
  18. Regarding the TRI show, Justin Kreutzmann was on the XM Tales show this past weekend discussing the show - looking forward to. I am interested to hear what Bobby Keys has to say.
  19. http://www.politico....0212/72297.html Well that's because he more worried about the middle class.
  20. You can purchase the mp3 (or lossless) of the Geneva show - the performance includes Laminated Cat and an acoustic version of Spiders. Below is the Wilco site http://wilco.kungfustore.com/category/491-roadcase/product/3728-july-8-2012-geneva-il-wilr02 Download discusion is here: http://viachicago.org/topic/48136-wilco-officially-released-live-shows/
  21. I happen to be watching the 7/19/89 Alpine boot now. Agree with the West LA Fadeaway --- great, great version. That JGB 91 release is indeed great - never gotten around to see JGB back in the day, which is a shame.
  22. It is on the Red Rock and Geneva downloads, will that suffice?
