  1. It is cool that they are going to run the show at theaters. I enjoy the somewhat recent trend of showing rock shows in theater. I think the Stones should take credit for the recent trend, too (Ladies and Gentlemen was the 1st rock movie in a long while.)
  2. It's great when Keith and Mick sing harmony together, esp live. They don't share the mic as much as they did in the earlier eras - which is a shame.
  3. I think he may be IRememberDBoon's cousin. Depending on the venue, I may fork out the dough to see the Stones again. (That is if they do a full tour - not just the 4 shows.)
  4. I think technology will surprise you. Plus, if only audience recordings exists, perhaps the feedback may not be as noticeable off the soundboard feed, who knows. If the price is decent enough I probably will get the Blu-ray. I think I have a source on my hard-drive, but I don't think I ever gotten around to listen to it. That's a great one.
  5. Animals is a good one - I think Dylan's Love and Theft and Modern Times sound great on phones. American Beauty is another.
  6. My (small/independent) go-to liquor store and Mexican food restaurant doesn't accept AMEX cards - so that sucks. At most common places, I don't have a problem though.
  7. Another vote for Mr. Keith RIchards. I agree, I think in order to be a truly great rhythm guitarist , he or she needs another guitarist to "weave" with. Of course one guitarist can create that in the studio and Pete is great at that. Oh hell, Pete is a great rhythm guitarist, too. Of course, Weir would be my 2nd favorite.
  8. Why can't they strike during the summer??? Seriously, I am for collective bargaining and striking - but I am having a little hard time with this particular strike. Both sides say they are close - if so, why not continue to teach, while the two sides hash it out? 16% raise over 4 years seems reasonable and I agree that methods of evaluation may be a bit skewed against teachers - but, I do agree with the city, that principals should be able to hire the most qualified teachers. Soon, I will have a kid who will be entering school age - I live a block away from the President's Chicago residence
  9. Well this thread killed two birds with one stone - got the front picture taken care for this year's Christmas card and a holiday movie in the queue ---surprised the squeal isn't in 3D.
  10. After doing a bunch of research my wife (and I) settled on the AMEX Blue, too.
  11. Well maybe Crow is right - yet another greatest hits record with a couple of new songs thrown in - pretty disappointing. Oh well. If the 4 shows do happen, hopefully they are a success and they play well - I wouldn't mind seeing them one more time.
  12. I happen to be listening to 9/2/83 now - another sprite BRB. Don't listen to 83, too often.
  13. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120905&content_id=37940042&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb#comment_container Yikes.
  14. And another thing, my 90 set was 6868 - perfect year (1968) for the next set.....
  15. Speaking of O'Rourke, I was discussing this someone - I never thought O'Rourke sat in with WIlco at a show before, with the exception of their Letterman or Conan TV appearance. So I guess I was wrong - what other shows does O'Rourke sit in on? I haven't listened to "laptop" or quartet era in awhile.
  16. The sound of the cd's are great - I only halfway through the shows, though. I enjoyed the book that came with the 72 set more than the 90 set - perhaps because the story behind the 72 tour is a lot more interesting. The pics in the 72 set seem to be better quality, too. The 90 set, overall (presentation, etc.) is better, though. Very solid packaging, etc (which is what we are shelling the 200 clams out for, I guess). The Dead were more concise in their playing on this tour - which is not a bad thing, they just did not wander or go off on a weird tangent on these discs. The shows seem relativ
  17. I always forget about the organissimo website, so I hardly venture over there - anyway they had great RIP Von thread going - some great stories. http://www.organissi...on-freeman-rip/ Below is Tesser's obit - which I am sure you already read, Lou. And I was wrong about the whole mentor bit in my previous post, with regards to Freeman and Fred. I don't run in the same circles as the musicians who played with Freeman, as oppose to Fred's, but after reading the comments in Tesser's piece, I now remember all the singers waiting in the wings to sing with Von and his band at the Apartment Lounge
  18. Definitely gets it from his dad. I never saw a performer (Steve Earle) diffuse situations (drunk audience banter, etc,) better than Steve. Lot's of Steve banter is definitely planned, too, though.
  19. http://archive.org/d...k.76.sbeok.shnf Per B.Jackson's blog entry - I don't think I ever listened to this show before - they sound like they are having fun. Great Yellow Dog Story segment. Always loved the older, fast Cold Rain and Snow.
  20. Mellencamp in 87, while supporting the Lonesome Jubilee record, which was released 25 years ago. Great show.
  21. Carbondale got a name check - that's cool. Still ain't gonna listen to it, yet. I might cave, though. Sure his voice is rough, he definitely "croons" more so than sings - but hell his voice was never his strong suit, anyway.
  22. Hopefully he gets it back - beautiful guitar.
  23. I thought he sounded better last week then he he did during the shows after the Together Through Life release - he definitely was more engaged. Perhaps it has to do with the introduction of the piano - I don't know - but he seems to be focusing more on the vocal delivery than he has in the past. Watching him sing, while playing the grand piano is quite the sight. The overall show was great - esp. Forgetful Heart.

Really? I think she inherent her pop's talent - great set of pipes. I am guessing he is proud (if he isn't he's an idiot).
