  1. Listening to the above show, now. Finally watched the above rendition of the Veneta show - I think it best footage of them performing - definitely needs an official release.
  2. http://southside.uchicago.edu/History/Music.html It looks like there was an Okeh studio here on the South Side. I would like to know where. I know the U of C has a jazz special collection at their library, I am sure I can find out there.
  3. Got my set yesterday - does sound great. As usual, the Mosaic bunch did a great job mastering/producing. I have an Ellingston set from the same era that I don't listen to all that much because the shrill of the horns gets a bit hard to listen to. Lou - any idea where the Chicago dates were recorded at. A few of the sessions on disc 1 were recorded here, but the name of the studio's are not listed. For some reason I though everything was recorded in NYC, for the most part, back in the 20s/30s and early 40s. A few dates were recorded in LA, also. Baring the names of studios, the liner not
  4. I read that was the title Lennon was going to go with - Yoko nixed it, though. I am an Obama supporter, but I wish he would have vetoed it.
  5. Video news pieces on newspaper websites. The Chicago Tribune seems to be posting more and more of these - if I want to watch a video I will go to the WGN site. I go to newspaper site to read the news, not watch it.
  6. Looks like a great set - I would have been a bit bummed not to hear Burn Down the Mission, though.
  7. TNT and Standard are two of my favorites of Tortoise. Tortoise opened up the UIC shows for Wilco, also Jeff Parker played with Nels in a couple of combinations. WIlco and Tortoise - two great Chicago institutions. There's actually a small Tortoise thread going. http://viachicago.org/topic/26830-tortiose/page__p__822489__hl__tortoise__fromsearch__1#entry822489
  8. I use to listen to MMW quite a bit in the late 90s/early 00's - but I haven't heard any of their recent stuff. I saw a great double bill of MMW and Tortoise once at a Chicago festival (in 2002 or 03). It was the first time I saw Tortoise play before and I thought they played a much better set. Oddly enough, the show sparked my interest even more in Tortoise and MMW fell by the wayside. The last cd I bought was Uninvisible - haven't listened to that in ages. A friend of mine (a professional dancer, when she can find the work) developed a whole show/routine with Scofield's Go-Go record and p
  9. I don't have a problem with them playing Betts' penned tunes, though I wouldn't mind them dropping No One Left To Run With from their playlist.
  10. Well, I guess that's not too surprising. It would have been cool to see him up there with them. I am not even sure - did they perform at the Grammy event?
  11. http://www.grammy.com/videos/the-allman-brothers-accepting-lifetime-achievement-award-at-special-merit-awards I forgot that they received the Lifetime Achievement Grammy earlier this year - above is their acceptance speech. I guess Dickey was a no show, though he did get a shout out from many of the band members. Chuck Leavell thanked some people for Betts.
  12. Pigpen drops a couple of f-bombs during Lovelight and Weir (incredulously) asks "Pigpen, did you just say fuck?". Nice short tape.
  13. http://www.archive.o...10.sbeok.flac16 Also listened to the above - great recording/matrix Great Dark Star and Lovelight - Weir and Pigpen are great during Lovelight.
  14. Listening to this again. Love the Sitting in Limbo on this set - Hopkins is all over it.
  15. I am expecting this one Monday, via Netflix - when it came out in the theaters, I thought the premise seemed odd, but interesting.
  16. Acoustic set looks okay - never was a fan of Soulshine and I am not familier with These Days. Would be cool to hear Needle and the Damage Done. My Favorite Things is a great opener. I saw a couple of Allman Brothers' shows where they did a mini acoustic set in the late 90's. Jack Pearson was in the band.
  17. That looks like it would be a fun day. In the past, I use to head to CO at least once a year - never been to Quixotes, though. Looks like a cool place. Are all the groups going to play the same set-lists that was played in 73? The discussion over there regarding the Roosevelt show has been a good one - I haven't listened to it yet.
  18. I bet Rush would be extremely upset to read that. Perhaps, he would even take offense.
  19. I guess this where I figured money changed hands. I guess the good price was the cost of the "x number of blanks" - which makes sense.
  20. So, blank tapes and money were sent and in return a person would tape the shows you wanted and send them back. I guess that would be bootlegging, unless, I suppose, if the money covered the postage. I can see where the band would get a little peaved. (Personally, I don't find anything wrong it.) I am sure this method of trading is dicussed in one of the Tapers' book, I probably read about it and forgot. Regarding the Dave' Pick, I didn't suscribe, nor did not pick up the 1st volume, but I think I will get Vol. 2. I agree, an early acoustic/electic 70 show would be great. Also - these "ol
  21. I didn't realize she will be facing Wurzelbacher - wow.
  22. Same here. Right before the Fluke incident, I turned him on for a quick second and he was astounded that women had a dislike for Newt - he was asking what did Newt do to women that would turn them off so much. He then went on and said that the only women Newt "hurt" were his ex-wives. I couldn't stop laughing. (Of course he was being serious and I am sure his listeners agree with him, but I find the absurdity, funny.) Also he was astounded that women had issues with Santorum, since he has been married for the same women for such a long time and has lots of children. His deadpan delivery is r
