  1. Some groupie? - don't know, actually. Just finished watching the spread earlier - great photos. Probably will be getting Vol. 2.
  2. Thanks for sharing your review - I agree that the West L.A. Fadeaway from the 19th was excellent. If I had to pick my top five favorite Dead songs, I think I would have to put West L.A. in it. Perhaps, because their performance of that song on the 19th is etched in my brain (as I wrote many times, the 19th was my first show.) Great groove and love Hunter's lyrics.
  3. Well, since you are at it,Winterland121072, do you have a review for 19th?
  4. I always thougth Winston lived in England.
  5. Knowing me, I problably read both them before, but still an enjoyable read this afternoon, none the less. other news: I guess I will try to attend a showing - wish it was the complete third show, though
  6. Finished watching it last night - great flick. Story was incredibly well written and a Wisconsin town seemed to be the perfect backdrop - the weather, scenery, and the midwest people. Watching the extra of the screenwriter talk about the screenplay was well worth watching - the whole mental illness angle and how society deals with it.
  7. Even the two sides within the two parties are entrenched - which doesn't bode well for either party.
  8. I have never been one to get set-lists, but I did ask a Old Town of Folk Music worker if I could grab the Justin Roberts' set list and he said sure. Justin was signing stuff after the show, so I brought my 2 1/2 old son up to him and had him sign the set list - so my kid is on his way.... I did happen to see Levon Helm's set list (who performed the night before) on the stage, too. It was near the keyboards/trumpet player stand, I am guessing someone gave it to him, so I did not grab it.
  9. Wow that would have been great to see - thanks for posting.
  10. Disc 2 is definitely outstanding, I just perfer 72 to 74. Disc 2 includes:
  11. Never heard of Grafton, WI - spent quite a bit time in Grafton, IL (nice wineries) - that's why I wondering where the hell in Grafton, IL would there would have been a studio. The town is about a city block long. It is interesting that there was one in Grafton, WI.
  12. Listening to the above show, now. Finally watched the above rendition of the Veneta show - I think it best footage of them performing - definitely needs an official release.
  13. http://southside.uchicago.edu/History/Music.html It looks like there was an Okeh studio here on the South Side. I would like to know where. I know the U of C has a jazz special collection at their library, I am sure I can find out there.
  14. Got my set yesterday - does sound great. As usual, the Mosaic bunch did a great job mastering/producing. I have an Ellingston set from the same era that I don't listen to all that much because the shrill of the horns gets a bit hard to listen to. Lou - any idea where the Chicago dates were recorded at. A few of the sessions on disc 1 were recorded here, but the name of the studio's are not listed. For some reason I though everything was recorded in NYC, for the most part, back in the 20s/30s and early 40s. A few dates were recorded in LA, also. Baring the names of studios, the liner not
  15. I read that was the title Lennon was going to go with - Yoko nixed it, though. I am an Obama supporter, but I wish he would have vetoed it.
  16. Video news pieces on newspaper websites. The Chicago Tribune seems to be posting more and more of these - if I want to watch a video I will go to the WGN site. I go to newspaper site to read the news, not watch it.
  17. Looks like a great set - I would have been a bit bummed not to hear Burn Down the Mission, though.
  18. TNT and Standard are two of my favorites of Tortoise. Tortoise opened up the UIC shows for Wilco, also Jeff Parker played with Nels in a couple of combinations. WIlco and Tortoise - two great Chicago institutions. There's actually a small Tortoise thread going. http://viachicago.org/topic/26830-tortiose/page__p__822489__hl__tortoise__fromsearch__1#entry822489
  19. I use to listen to MMW quite a bit in the late 90s/early 00's - but I haven't heard any of their recent stuff. I saw a great double bill of MMW and Tortoise once at a Chicago festival (in 2002 or 03). It was the first time I saw Tortoise play before and I thought they played a much better set. Oddly enough, the show sparked my interest even more in Tortoise and MMW fell by the wayside. The last cd I bought was Uninvisible - haven't listened to that in ages. A friend of mine (a professional dancer, when she can find the work) developed a whole show/routine with Scofield's Go-Go record and p
  20. I don't have a problem with them playing Betts' penned tunes, though I wouldn't mind them dropping No One Left To Run With from their playlist.
  21. Well, I guess that's not too surprising. It would have been cool to see him up there with them. I am not even sure - did they perform at the Grammy event?
  22. http://www.grammy.com/videos/the-allman-brothers-accepting-lifetime-achievement-award-at-special-merit-awards I forgot that they received the Lifetime Achievement Grammy earlier this year - above is their acceptance speech. I guess Dickey was a no show, though he did get a shout out from many of the band members. Chuck Leavell thanked some people for Betts.
