  1. They released the 3/15/90 show on cd. It's still on sell over at dead.net - it's funny that they still call it a limited edition. It was released in 1997. Pricey set.
  2. David Hoekstra has a nice piece on Out of the Past Records, 4407-09 W. Madison St. I no longer have a record player, so I never been to this place, but it sounds like it might be a worth while visit, for some. http://blogs.suntime...re_that_sp.html While in that part of town, definitely hit up the Garfield Park Conservatory - a nice place. http://www.garfield-conservatory.org/ The neighborhood may be a bit rough, just mind your surroundings.
  3. Listening to the below show, now. I don't listened to the early 80's show as often as other era's, but this show is a good one. A nice write up appears in the Taper's book. Dwork mentioned the Railroad Blues and Playin as highlights - they definitely are. Listening to the Hunter's Trix matrix source. I tend to lean towards the 68-73 years. I guess my favorite year is 71 then it goes 72/70/69/73/68. Of course, 77 and 89 are up there, too.
  4. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/turnitup/chi-van-halen-concert-review-van-halen-at-the-united-center-reviewed-20120224,0,6660031.column Nice review of last night's Chicago show - perhaps not such a glowing one with regards to Roth, though. Above is a nicely written final paragraph.
  5. I need to buy that Gear Book. I read it, but it would be a great book to have my shelf.
  6. http://dozin.com/jer...tar/history.htm The above is a link about Jerry's guitar through the years. The 72 set has a great essay on the Nash guitar.
  7. I have tuning issues with my Les Paul (just a Studio) - perhaps it's a Gibson thing in general. I would love to play the SG. I am sure one of the stores in Chicago will get one in. I haven't been to a music store in quite a while, actually the last one was Rock N Roll Vintage Inc. up on the northside (in Chicago.) I think they filmed some of IATTBYH there. Beautiful store.
  8. Sadly, only a Justin Roberts' show at the Old Town of Folk Music, next month --- parenthood...you gotta love it. He does put on a fun show, though.
  9. That was the 1989 run. I never did get that box-set release.
  10. People may want to avoid the city during the weekend of May 19-20, 2012 - the G8 Summit will be held here. It should be interesting, though.
  11. I thought the Bird Song and Days Between were pretty good in the TRI set. Chimenti plays some really piano on Days Between - the song does lag towards the end of it, though. I made it to the Terrapin Station Reunion, too - fun weekend.
  12. http://viachicago.org/topic/45872-jeff-tweedy-signature-sg/ There is a thread in the Solid State forum - great looking guitar.
  13. I agree about Kimock being too low in the mix. I forgot how goofy Kenny Brooks is while he is on stage - his expressions always crack me up. Weir sounded good, too.
  14. Yeah - that was the event that I was alluding to. It was fun: some drinks, a smoke, and let machines roll. I always used Maxell.
  15. Steve Kimock and Mark Karen were on guitars. Sorry, I should have posted a link last night.
  16. A taper friend of mine taped the 92 Compton shows, it was great to hear it when he came back to Chicago. I kind of miss those of days of waiting to hear a show, it was always a bit of an event. I been watching the Ratdog TRI show - the second set is pretty damn good.
  17. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/10791880-452/ozzie-guillen-vows-not-to-let-carlos-zambrano-get-out-of-control.html It's a going to be a very boring (and probably sucky) summer in Chicago. I am wishing the Marlins my best.
  18. I was at Brent's last show. I watched a DVD boot of it last month or so, it was a pretty uninspired show. The venue is horrible and they had issues with the town and venue, so I am assuming the band just wanted get the show done and over. They never did play the venue again (The World Music Theatre, now called something else...) I did have fun at the show - I started on the lawn and dance my way up towards the stage as the show progressed. I was 16 at the time and the kid I went worth got bored and headed back to the car during the set break. It was fun just hanging around various people in
  19. Perhaps they didn't include the Crimson release, because it was released as a DVD/CD combo package. I wasn't a huge fan of the Crimson release.
  20. There was a segment on Frampton on CBS This Morning yesterday. I never knew that he lost his Les Paul, due to a plane crash. The story of him getting his guitar back, somewhat recently, is pretty cool. I, like millions of others, had a copy of Frampton Comes Alive! on 8-Track. I haven't listened to it since I had a 8-Track player.
  21. Just listened to Grand Prix again last night - I think Verisimilitude is my favorite Teenage Fanclub song. Also just read an Sharon Van Etten interview in the Chicago Reader - good read, never heard any of her stuff before. Wouldn't mind hearing her stuff with Mike Reed. http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/sharon-van-etten-interview-with-chris-salveter/Content?oid=5634603
  22. That Buffalo DVD is probably my favorite later period DVD release. The Deal is a great one, as well as the Morning Dew. Below is info on DVD box set - The only ones I don't have is the So Far release - hopefully they release that one separately. I guess $99 is not a bad price, if you don't have any of these. The five songs from the archive, that is mentioned, is the songs from the Calibration show from August 30 1970. I had the show on my hard drive for a while and finally watched it a couple of days ago - a bit sloppy, but it was cool to see the old footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch
  23. How was the Phil show, Moss?
