Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
calvino replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
As for caferteria syle goes, there is still Valois down here in Hyde Park. Amazingly, I have yet to eat at Manny's or Valois. Of course being a vegeraterian now, neither seem too appealing. I do cheat every St. Patrick and eat a little of my sister's corned beef - perhaps I should skip her's and head to Manny's, though I don't think I could handle a whole sandwich ---- does look good though. -
Not trying to make this into a Armisen thread, but below was an interview in today's Chicago Tribune (mostly about his time in Chicago). http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/ct-ent-0112-fred-armisen-chicago-20120111,0,5048552.story

I can get you a copy, if you don't do the torrant thing, Lou. It was funny hearing you name on the tape.
-
I would think that would be a cool band to shoot.
-
I guess Kool & the Gang are opening for them in Chicago - seems like an odd pair. Brandmeier (a Chicago radio broadcaster) is giving out free tickets on the radio now to callers who are calling from their car and have Van Halen blasting, - seems like it 1984-5 all over again (of course they wouldn't be calling from their cars in 84.)

Thanks, anthonyc007. A new bookmark.

Nice way to spend the day.

Watched Midnight in Paris last night - it's a good one, especially the cinematograhy. I thought the last scene with Wilson and his finance and her family was a bit lacking, though. I also wonder why Allen didn't bring up Ezra Pound - I would of thought he would have been an excellant character to write about.

In the footage that Wilco Me posted, Fred said he use to work for Sue Miller and is a friend of the family. I'm sure Miller booked Trenchmouth. Fred's bits in IATTBYH always cracked me up - I don't think I heard of him before seeing that doc. Yeah, what nalafej wrote.

I always thought your avatar was an extremely large jack rabbit. (your dog's mouth were the ears...)
-
From their website - hopefully all goes well with the treatment.
-
Just finally gotten around to listen to their CD - great stuff. Would be a great opening band for Wilco - they would definitely set the bar high for the evening.

I always wondered how Fred and Jeff met - thanks for the link.
-
He was hoping to build it in Fairfax, CA, but the locals were against it, so he picked San Rafael. I think A-Man posted the link regarding the Fairfax deal.
-
This is the place that some of the locals were against, right? In other web studio news, Weir is going to stream a free Ratdog show 1/25/12.
-
Why not, I guess. Should be interesting how he fares. I am guessing that other guy in the video is his manager.
-
That's good news.
-
From the link: (I never realized he played with Liebman, before).
-
Acually I made a mistake, the link I posted was from 11/11/11 - not 11/9/11. I think the below has the radio broadcast: http://viachicago.org/topic/46799-wilco-11092011/
-
I replaced the actual show, but I had the whole broadcast (interviews and all) on my originals.
-
Xm is replaying the entire original 12/31/90 broadcast. I taped this off the radio: the tapes were lost years ago (last seen in CO.) Some of the pre-show and between set banter I do remember - The interview with Vince Welnick was cool to hear again and Healy talking about the opening of the Vaults with the release of the One from the Vault. I think this New Year Show is still my favorite. It's great to hear the original broadcast, again.
-
I think some already did: see http://viachicago.or...wilco-11112011/ Of course you may talking about the audio...

Singers who also act. (You knew it was coming sometime!)

Great stuff, Chris Potter's last recording with the Douglas quintet. Frisell is also on some of these tracks on this record.
