After two listens I'm in the same boat. I definitely don't think it is crap, but thus far it's a bit boring. I not a big fan of the constant "vamp" that is running throughout If I Ever Go To Houston. I do like how it ends, as of now I like the last two songs the best. That being all said I glad we have a new Dylan record and I am looking forward to seeing him perform the new songs. Regarding, John Wesley Harding is in my Top Five by Dylan. Screeching harmonica and all. (an aside - Lou you are wanted in the Dead forum with a Garcia/Zappa show review if you have one, I figure you might

I like US Blues too, especially opening a show with it. Don't think that happen too often with The Grateful Dead. On Lamberts and Gans' show Tales from the Golden Road on XM, they always talk about trying to track down the guys in the movie who were arguing about the the idea of a Grateful Dead movie and talk to them. I think it would also be fun to talk to the guy who was mouthing the US Blues from the movie, also. It cracks me up every time I watch it.

If I heard it correctly on the Grateful Dead XM channel, they will be broadcasting one of the Spectrum shows this Fri. or Sat. I just caught the last bit of the spot this afternoon. Can't find it anywhere on the web to confirm, though. Edit: David Gans posted this over on dead.net I got tickets for the 4th here in Chicago, so it will be nice to at least hear the show before the Chicago show.

Which Coltrane book?

For me those two releases are the best of the recent Road Trip/Rhino releases. The sound is great, esp. on the 68 show. That short Dark Star from Portland is great filler on Disk 1. It's a bummer it took so long to get to you.

I liked Beyond the Horizon on his last one. You're right though, his last great ballad's were back on Oh Mercy.

I always loved those interviews. Especially when I was a young kid reading them. Now I find those interviews funny, but back than I guess I thought he was like a junkie pirate. Seems like a odd theme for a song, but I am looking forward to hearing it.

I read that he references Keith in the song, is it a negative reference? I have not heard it.

How was the Gimme Shelter?

Guesses on highest bid? The person does seem to be starting off a bit low.

Would be kinda interesting if they open up tonight's show with it.

July 4th at South Bend sounds great. I never went to one his Baseball gigs. Sounds like it should be a hoot.

I guess I just feel middle aged on Thursday morning after I attend a Wednesday night show. You are not really old, Lou.

http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/hoekstr...Tuten24.article Another article on Tuten. A Sue Miller shout out and a nice background of the Hideout and other clubs in Chicago. Lou, you should go on a Wed. night. Some nights there are only about 10-20 free jazz middle aged dorks like myself. When it's a packed night, just more dorks with a sprinkle of hipsters. Actually this Friday and Saturday is the Immediate Sound Series Three Year Anniversary. Should be a great week end. I saw the Abs Baar Trio and Vandermark at the Cultural Center this pass Wednesday. Great show. The line up i

Yeah, I just grabbed them and the 2nd edition states that the Drums/Space segment was established in 1978.
-
Did tapers come up the term Space or did The Grateful Dead themselves. The first time album I noticed the term Space on was on Dead Set. Were tapes labeled as such before then?

A rather nice post by Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune: http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/tur...d-live-on-.html From it:

Same here. I haven't heard any tracks yet. It's been a bit hard not sneaking a listen to any of the released songs, though.
-
That's pretty cool. Looking forward to hearing this when I get home. Always liked those two songs.
-
I was able to make that show, too. Cold, cold, cold night. That was the first time I heard Kicking Television. Great way to kick off the show.

Terrapin has alway been tough...This is sounding great vocally.
