  1. I have only listened to most of the first set. I thought it sounded pretty good. Enough to get me excited about the Chicago dates, agian. It's weird, my excitement level has been up down since they announced the tour. It's good it's on the upswing again. Plus I heard from friends, that I haven't heard from in a while, and they are going to the show, so it will be nice to get together with them again for a Dead show.
  2. Wow, the Hunter news is pretty cool. With regards to Tipper, I believe she just wanted a sticker on a album. I don't know if that is censorship. I am not here defending her, though. Just bringing up a point. I have not listened to her "performance" from last night, yet, so I don't have an opinion her drumming abilities. It's great they got to go to the White House.
  3. see here: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=39530
  4. Even though the mug may be filled with Pabst (no offense towards the Theater or Pabst lovers out there) And Lou, John seems to be getting a little thin on top. (referring to the Spector thread)
  5. Those prices are ridicules. I was lucky enough to purchase it when it went on sale up on dead.net. It is a limited edition, so obtaining ripped versions only hurts re-sellers, not the Dead organization (my opinion of course). It's a great set of music, but man those prices...
  6. Yeah, he is off to a great start, right where he left off before his injury last year. Today was a bit ugly (Floyd's pitching) but they won and this is pretty cool, too.
  7. Does this make Wilco a Milwaukee band? I am really confused, now.
  8. For some reason I see Kiss fans throwing fake blood at Seger or worse spitting alcohol fueled fire at him. edit. this isn't to demean Kiss fans. It just seems like a strange double bill.
  9. Now that's an interesting bill. What was your's and the rest of the Kiss fans opinion of Seger? I lost my copy of Live Bullet, but I used to listen to the album quite a bit when I was a kid, thanks to my sister. (who was/is a huge Seger fan)
  10. Don't forget the jail system. About half my in-laws work for the state correctional system in one fashion or another. If I had the choice between a Chicago suburb and the Carbondale area, I probably would choose down there. All those things you mentioned above are definitely great activities. We still try to go camping down there at least once or twice a year.
  11. Not to change the subject, but I wish Teenage Fanclub would tour the States a bit more. Never seen them perform before. I didn't get into Nirvana until after he was gone. I was too wrapped up in hippie music while I was in college. Actually I was in my bedroom in my apartment drinking a Rolling Rock and listening music when my roommate came in and told me. I just grabbed another beer out my fridge that I had in my room. I rather like their music, now. I had friends who use to see them when they came through Chicago area and I do regret not seeing them perform when I had the opportunity.
  12. Well that does not bode well for his music cred, then. Opening up for Willie Nelson at Massey Hall sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me.
  13. Sounds like a great trip. I love "accidentally" fitting in a concert while traveling or vacationing.
  14. Well this didn't take long. I love that he was "met with catcalls of 'Here comes the gravy.'" From the AP:
  15. I never heard of the P-Mac store, either. I am assuming it is somewhat new? I need to check it out next time I am in town. I don't think I could handle living down there. It was great while I was at school and it is still great visiting the area on a regular basis, but living down again does not sound appealing, regardless of the cost of living. And yeah if Dr. Wax doesn't get any copies of the Ashes DVD, I guess I going to venture up North. Gonna have to do it early Sat. though; I see the Cardinals are going to be at Wrigley on Sat...I don't like being north of Madison when that happens.,
  16. That's weird. I just looked at my copy of the Winterland set and I don't see Rhino's logo anywhere on the set, while the Terrapin 77 show has a Rhino logo on it. So maybe Rhino is distributing a second run. I don't know, it's a bit confusing to me. I did notice this link http://www.letitbleedbook.com/ on the Rhino page. That would be cool to have. But the price pretty damn steep.
  17. It came out last summer. Perhaps they were only selling it on dead.net and the Rhino site up until now. It is definitely easy loosing track of their release, especially since they got involved with Rhino.
  18. I got the 68 in the mail today, planning to listen to it tomorrow. Got the 77 show a few days ago and listened to it once Wed. night. The 77 show does sound very nice, both production and playing wise. I never heard the 5.28.77 show before, so it was nice to hear it. I have a FLAC copy of the 2.14.68 show (a real great show), so I am looking forward to hear how they cleaned up the sound. It's gonna be nice Easter weekend listening to new Grateful Dead stuff. I guess to answer your question, I did get confirmation that both shows were being shipped. Once I got the confirmation of shipping
  19. Hyde Park Records. http://hydeparkrecords.net/ (they do not update their site very often) I called Dr. Wax and they told me to call them back on Monday because he wasn't sure if they would be getting it or not.
  20. I am bit bummed that the record store down here in Hyde Park will not have any copies of the Wilco DVD. They said they contacted Wilco and whoever else you contact to get the advance copies, but they did not get a response from Wilco or anyone. I don't see their name on the Record Store Day Venue link either, so perhaps they are just a bunch of slackers or are not participating. They are a TRUE independent store, I guess.
  21. I rather like good beer and lived in Chicago my entire life and I have never made to the Hopleaf, yet. One of these days. Since I lived a few blocks from the Map Room for a few years that has always been my go to place for a very decent beer selection.
  22. Here you go. I need to think a bit for my favorite. (Though I always liked Aoxomoxoa, too)
  23. I think both are relevant, today. They might not be in their "prime", but I don't think that really matters. Socially I think they both have something to say, whether it be through their music, causes, or interviews. Even Dylan admits he can't write songs they way he used to. Below is a segment from his 60 Minutes interview with the late great Ed Bradley.
