  1. All I can do is shake my head. It's just f..kin' weird listening to her talk about the Garcia Band's music. Anyway, it is what is, I let all the others on Dead related boards do the venting, because at the end of the day she is going to do whatever she wants to do with the music... The one thing I don't understand is, why is she letting the tapes deteriorate? I assume she can afford to store them properly.
  2. Yep, I am a Saluki. My wife's family lives in the area, so I still go down there quite often. When i need to "get away" from the in-laws I head into town and hit Longbranch for a coffee and check out Plaza records. Anyway, I look forward the next show.
  3. I always have been partial to Honky Tonk Women, when it comes to the Stones. Very simple opening, of course. Also the Dead in me has to say Dark Star.
  4. Few more links here, today: http://expectingrain.com/
  5. Listened up the Wicked Messenger, which was nice to hear. I believe it was Patti Smith, never heard that rendition before. Also enjoyed the David Bowie song, with Lester Bowie sitting in. Never heard that song either. Actually I did not even know Lester ever played with David. I spent the first half the 90's in Carbondale, WDBX was just getting off the ground when I finally left town. It's great that the town/area has a decent radio station, now.
  6. A dvd is being released in March - see billboard link. A little late for Christmas...but none the less.

  8. http://thebaynet.com/announcements/index.c...nnounce_ID/4654 I found the link on the Expectingrain site.
  9. One of my favorite Dylan tunes. One of his many songs about a specific event that is still as relevant today as it was when he wrote it. It's great that he still plays it on a pretty regularly basis. (Saw Dylan perform it as recently as 11/08 in Kalamazoo.) http://www.bobdylan.com/#/songs/lonesome-d...-hattie-carroll http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lonesome_..._Hattie_Carroll from wiki (I think Dylan was "easy" on Mr. Zanzinger) In 2001, Zantzinger told Howard Sounes, in Down the Highway, the Life of Bob Dylan, "It's actually had no effect upon my life," but expressed scorn for Dylan
  10. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/phish-...003927559.story Not much news, but something.
  11. I think I stated this before while discussing the Egypt CD release --- the review of the Egypt run in Vol. II is pretty damn cool.
  12. Don't forget, for those who have XM/Sirius, NYE coverage just starting now.
  13. I thought the same thing when I saw they will be playing Allstate Arena (Rosemont Horizon)... Haven't seen a show there since the 94 Dead run and the sound was pretty bad (not to mention their playing was not that steller either.) I heard they updated things (the neil young show this past month was supposed to of sounded good). I must admit I'm pretty excited, haven't seem them all play together since the Terrapin Shows at Alpine.
  14. Going through the Grateful Dead 365 book by Holly George-Warren, that I got for Christmas. Basically a picture book. It has some great shots that I have not seen before. To mention a few: from the Fillmore East, Pigpen sitting in with the Allmans and one from the 1970 run where Mick Fleetwood is on stage clapping along. Also some paintings of the band members by Stanley Mouse and lots of crowd/fan shots that are always interesting. May be worth checking out if you are interested in snap shots like me. The same publisher who put this put this book out, put out one for the Stones a few years
  15. Fun time last night. The whole bar was pretty packed and all were in a festive mood. I think the bar scene was the highlight for me, but that does take away anything from Von and his band's performance, which was good. From the lady bartender yelling at everyone around me (in a good humor type of way), to the guy, who was standing next to me, who has been going to these Tuesday gigs on a regular basis since 91 or so, telling me the history of the area, about the players who stopped in over the years, and the family history of Von Freeman. One of the interesting stories by this guy was about
  16. Is there a way to download the whole show at once, rather than one song at a time? Thanks in advance.
  17. not sure if it is complete... http://www.discogs.com/artist/Freddie+Hubbard
  18. The three peat records of Freedom Ragged Glory Arc/Weld works for me. Though I have not listened to all his post 80 output. I still do listened to Sleep With Angels from time to time, but not as much as the other three mentioned.
  19. I'm still planing to go tonight. (Hey Lou, please check your messages.)
  20. http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=516400 9.18 - 9.20 run is still seeding on bt.etree. Just caught the last bit of the 9.19 Dark Star on XM. The whole "why don't you go home and Fuck somebody" is pretty classic. Especially how the "Get Together" song comes right back in.
  21. http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/grat...campaign=081219 Wolfgang released the second set of 4.29.71 this weekend. I am pretty sure everyone has this in their collection and it is part of the Ladies and Gentlemen disks, I think this show was my first Dead boot. I always loved these versions of Second That Emotion and In the Midnight Hour. Johnny B Goode is really rocking too, esp. Pig's organ playing.
  22. Have you been to Elastic? ( http://www.elasticrevolution.com/index.htm ) I am not sure if you have to be 21 to get in or not. They do not serve booze, but it is BYOB. Anyway they have great gigs on Thursday nights. Vandermark 5 is doing three Tuesday night shows in January.
  23. 30th works for me too...I think I will be off on the 31st, so I will have no excuse. Only time I saw, I think, Freeman play was at the Green Mill a good few Decembers ago with Peterson. It was great, but the Green Mill crowd where extra noisy and ornery that night. My brother was literally screamed at by a well dressed patron because he placed his drink down on her table for a second so he could put his coat on. It was good and fun to watch the two old guys blow, though. I have never ventured down to the New Apartment, which is ridiculous since I live down here on the Southside.
  24. Sorry Lou, I did not make the show. We should start a petition to have these shows start earlier. I get up at 4:15 for work during the week, so it takes extra motivation to get out to see these shows, usually a show like the DKV Trio does the trick. Anyway, did you or anyone else make it to the Hideout?
