Don't think so. His issues with depression and drugs have been well documented. He almost died on tour with Radiohead in the late nineties, and I remember reading him discussing going through a serious phase of depression right after It's a Wonderful Life came out. or to put it more succinctly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btmycg_Pq4E With rocks in my dress And smoke in my hair I walked into a lake To get some sleep down in there Won't you come to comfort me? Won't you come to comfort me? With minnows in my belly And deep in my veins The breath-robbin 'lightning Was making diamonds of rain Won't you come to comfort me? Won't you come to comfort me? Dreamed I was born on a mountain on the moon Where nothing grows or ever rock I dreamed that I had me a daughter Who was magnificent as a horse Won't you come to comfort me? Won't you come to comfort me? Won't y

Statement from the family: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” reads a statement from his family. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.” Still trying to find the right words, It's a Wonderful Life is one of those perfect albums for me. This is a damn shame.

Same here, that's possibly my favorite documentary of all time. I have had nightmares about Basil Collins for years because of that film. --Mike

That's okay with me.

Jerry: Oh good. Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about Dr. Whatley. I have a suspicion that he's converted to Judaism just for the jokes. Father: And this offends you as a Jewish person. Jerry: No, it offends me as a comedian.

That offends me I am offended... Actually I am surprised he didn't go with "but most of them won't catch you because their so old, lol Dad Rock"

While I don't want to speak for HeWasNotRed, I will say that he has been made well aware that linking to commercially related material is against board policy, and that this issue has been handled. Regardless of your personal opinions on the morality of downloading vs. buying, I will say that everyone has been new here at one point, and that our no links policy is pretty unique in this current climate of the internet. So I'd like to appeal to your compassion and let's cut the kid a break from this point forward. --Mike.

That album has been getting pretty viscous reviews, I think the critics might be treating that Cop Out movie more nicely than Gabriel's record. In other news Stagnation on Tresspass is pretty much the best song ever. --Mike

Yeah, I knew him through Never Not Funny as well. I was really hoping for the best, as I'd heard reports that he'd been missing all week, but the longer it stretched out the worse it seemed. He was also quite delightful on Growing Pains, it still amazes me that they actually called a character Boner for four seasons. RIP --Mike

Loved it.

What bands or artist do you like more than Wilco?
mpolak21 replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
Wilco's run from Being There to A Ghost is Born might be one of my favorite stretches any band as ever had, but no one is ever going to touch the Beatles for me, because they were the first band I really loved. And I probably like a dozen or so bands a little more than Wilco overall. Still, I have listened to more Wilco stuff than any other band, and certainly with all of the boots I have I have more of their material than anyone else. --Mike -
Isn't all of that stuff already out there with the Wilco Book and the itunes bonus EP's or was that your point? --Mike P.S.: Aside from the documentary and live performances of course.
-
Yeah, I think I'd rather have the studio boxset of outtakes, both would be interesting, particularly if the band has a deep archive of old live shows that they recorded for themselves. --Mike

Thanks, Aman. Found it on Youtube, will check it out. --Mike

I think so, I remember you originally posted that around the time of WTA coming out. --Mike

"I've been hearing a lot about Wilco lately, did someone leave NPR on?" however, was pretty good. --Mike

Stylus Magazine Playing God Archives. Though they sadly went under in 2007, for four years Stylus Magazine was probably the best music site on the internet, and one of my favorite running features they had was "Playing God" where writers would basically recreate albums to make them tighter, louder, quieter, better, shorter, longer etc. More food for thought on the subject. --Mike

Lonoong SONGS that you wish would go on even longer

Heard a small piece about this on NPR yesterday, and grabbed it from the library, as with almost anything about the sixties, it's right up my alley. --Mike
