  1. There was already a thread about this . Have a good one, sir! --Mike
  2. I still haven't read Catcher because of Chapman, I am not sure I ever will actually. It's weird though because Nine Stories and Franny and Zooey are among my favorite books, but Catcher always spooked me a bit, and I have stayed away from it. I guess now is as good a time as ever to fix that. --Mike
  3. I've had Gravity of the Situation on loop since we got back from Midnight Mass, what an awful way to start Christmas for his friends and family. He was one of the first indie/alternative/non-mainstream artists I really got into when I was in high school and he kind of saved me from the drek that was early 2000's pop/rock radio. May he rest in peace. Godspeed, Speed Racer (1). --Mike (1.) If you can find it anywhere Vic's PBS documentary Speed Racer is great, I don't know if our very own Speed Racer is named after it, but I do have a feeling Chesnutt's music is right up her alley.
  4. Any man who come up with a line as brilliant as "someday I'll be a paragon just like Louis Farrakhan" is a man who deserves peace. Hoping the best for Vic. --Mike
  5. You can hit me up with a PM if you don't have it yet. Googling Eels End Times mediafire will also take you right to it. --Mike
  6. I really adore this record: Emperor Tomato Ketchup and the aforementioned Mars Audiac Quintet are also essentials. Here's a great vid of Cybele's Reverie from Jools Holland: --Mike
  7. Some random thoughts: *I know they've looked really lousy down the stretch, but I am still not ready to write off the Patriots. Would anyone be shocked if they beat the 16-0 Colts in the first round of the playoffs? *I really want to see the Titans finish 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs. Chris Johnson might be my favorite player to watch this season. *I loved Tomlin's decision to try for the onside kick. To paraphrase Crow from the Star Wars thread the steelers secondary is such an abomination that mere words cannot describe the ultimate clusterfuck that it is. Getting the ball back to the o
  8. I really need to watch this. Though I actually think Phantom Menace is the best of the "new" trilogy that distinction is perhaps as relevant as the team that won the championship in one year of the XFL. It's a pretty horrible movie, but it's the only one of the new three that I have been able to sit through a second time. --Mike
  9. When he gets to that line: You locked yourself in the bathroom again... so now I'm pissing in the yard, I just about lost it. --Mike
  10. The John Hodgman "re-write" of Phantom Menace on This American Life was also quite interesting. You can find it at the 45 minute mark here: The Real Story --Mike
  11. I think both this and the newest Eels would have been in my top five for this year if they'd come out a month earlier. --Mike
  12. End Times. E: "I felt guilty about the long gap between the last two albums so I'm making up for lost time." If you are interested in hearing this album, check your PM inbox for a... lecture on the perils of illegal downloading . --Mike

  14. I love the idea of a great Watterson book, but every review I read of Martell's bio was pretty negative, so I stayed away. I am interested to hear what you end up thinking about it. --Mike
  15. After two full listens.... Yeah, I think I love this record too. It sounds like E's On The Beach. The melodies might not instantly fit the lyrics as well as they do on Electro Shock Blues, but the lyrics on this one are great. --Mike
  16. This is my first listen, so far so good. --Mike
  17. Fraid you might have to cancel. WTA was shut out of their songs and albums list. --Mike
  18. He was always a knucklehead, but he was our knucklehead. RIP. --Mike
  19. I'd be down for him or to her to share. It was my favorite film as a 14-year-old. --Mike
  20. This movie is the bees knees --Mike
  21. It would be the late great Jay Bennett singing My Darling-esque. --Mike
  22. I still haven't heard it, but I loved Marry Me. --Mike
