I took to that one a lot. I was quite happy to see them back in action, and I think that might be the only British album on my list this year. --Mike

1.) Califone: All My Friends Are Funeral Singers 2.) Bill Callahan: Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle 3.) Grizzly Bear: Veckatimest 4.) Jim O'Rourke: The Visitor 5.) Why?: Eskimo Snow 6.) Antlers: Hospice 7.) Cornershop - Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast (there you go Pop Todd). 8.) David Rawlings Machine - A Friend Of A Friend 9.) Woods - Songs Of Shame 10.) Eels-Hombre Lombo Ton of stuff I haven't heard yet this year. Most of these records I got and pretty much lived inside for a few weeks and didn't bother getting anything else, which slowed my progress down quite a bit. As I always say

Because of... Though I was pulling for Nebraska, because I hate the BCS and want complete chaos at the end of every season, I am kind of glad Texas ended up getting that second back. If that's the game ended that way, McCoy/Brown would have done the stupidest thing I have ever seen at the end of a game (the only possible explanation for that call is that Brown forgot he had a timeout left), and neither of them deserve that on their record. West Virginia gets Florida State in Bowden's last game in the Gator Bowl. I have a feeling the fact Bowden left WVU for FSU in the seventies will be me

Wah! Jay Farrar on Uncle Tupelo last week......

That's exactly right. I only really have the JHamm DVD's to go by in terms of my judgement of UT's live chops, as I was way too young to catch them the first time around, so they seem great, but I've never actually had the experience of seeing them. UT is great in my perspective in the same way Joe DiMaggio was a great baseball player, all of my context is second-hand. --Mike -

Yes, Sarah, you are completely correct. Look Farrar tearing into Whiskey Bottle one more time with Tweedy on backing vocals gets me almost as excited as IRememberDBoon, but I just don't see it happening again. This isn't like the Beatles, it's not like Tweedy is making Wings at The Speed of Sound without Farrar, and Farrar is making Walls and Bridges without Tweedy. They've made records alone that are just as good and in some cases even better than the ones they did together. Live Wilco might not be as exciting anymore as the original lineup of Tupelo, but their awfully good, and Son Volt p -
Tomlin's a great coach, in fact I might even go as far to say that in my entire history of being a sports fan, I have never felt more comfortable with a coach of my favorite team than I do with Tomlin (the John Beilein-era West Virginia University basketball team may be the one exception). So far his teams haven't had the tendency to self-destruct like Cowher's did. Cowher was a great coach, but quarterbacks certainly had a tendency to implode under his watch: O'Donnell in Super Bowl XXX, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox, Big Ben in 2006 after the motorcycle accident. Dick LeBeau deserves a quite

I know. I always think about that when I hear My Love, I find the production on that to be just as bad if not even worse than Spector's The Long And Winding Road. --Mike

His mid-to-late nineties albums (the soundtrack from She's The One, Echo, and Wildflowers) were huge for me when I was getting to music as an early teen. I was just listening to Room at The Top from Echo a few mornings ago, still a killer song. --Mike -

Even the hint of Lynne on You Never Know kills that song for me. --Mike -

Yes, love it. The score is great. Alexandre Desplat did a wonderful job with the pieces. There are a lot of cool gems on it, the Burl Ives songs are neat, the Davy Crocket theme works well in the film, I like the Jarvis song also. The Beach Boys tunes he picked "Heroes and Villians" and "Old Man River" are top shelf, and the prerequisite Stones song, Street Fighting Man, kicks ass. Let Her Dance by the Bobby Fuller Four might be the best of the bunch. --Mike

I'm partial to School of the Flower myself. I'd have Radiohead, Califone, Sigur Ros, Yo La Tengo, Wilco, Doves, Smog/Bill Callahan, Broken Social Scene and Sparklehorse on my list in some order. --Mike

Harbaugh going for two while up 27 was pretty classy. --Mike

Anyone who has ever played Madden has lost a game doing something stupid like going for it inside your own 30. I still think Manning would have probably lead the Colts down to win the game regardless, just given the flow of the game. Hard to think of a consistently more compelling rivalry in the NFL. There are about six Pats/Colts games I'd rank as the best of the decade. --Mike

MP3 available here: MUSICAL PAIRINGS. Love the track, I was a little concerned after hearing Beck and Devendra's uh, duet, on So Long, Marianne, but this is excellent. --Mike
