  1. Haha! That bar most certainly ruled. And it is one of the bars I was referring to above. I knew it closed, but it still bums me out when I pass it. The bizarre thing is all these places close because landlords raise the rent and then the space goes unoccupied. I don't get it. International had to close at least a year ago, right? Its still empty and the front window still has the letters ATION from INTERNATIONAL.
  2. I also walked by two of my favorite bars in NYC today -- closed. I still wouldn't live anywhere else, but man, this place is changing. RIP Tonic. We shared some great shows by John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Cubanos Postizos, Medeski Martin & Wood, Cyro Baptista, etc.
  3. Us Mets fans do when we run out of things to argue about with Yankee fans.
  4. From the lead singer's blog (and directly on point with the discussion above): http://thevoxtrotkid.blogspot.com/ This new album, for all of the reasons listed in previous paragraphs, is very different from our previous output. Depite the fact that I'm quite pleased with the album, musically, it's almost difficult for me to listen to, and I imagine that, as a listener (or, a listener who is not me), it's something you have to kind of live with for a bit before it feels right. The album focuses on conflict and struggle, and on trying to do the right thing in light of the multiple forces tha

  6. I dont know this Voxtrot you speak of, but i am listening to their Raised By Wolves EP on rhapsody right now. Thanks peeps. I love it.
  7. I checked the box scores this am on the way to work. All is right with the world again. I love football and I love basketball, but nothing beats baseball. Here's to a good season folks.
  8. It's also retarded to think that any biography -- or autobiography -- is going to be 100% accurate. Crucial facts are always omitted -- either because the subjects themselves don't want to disclose them for any number of reasons, or because two different people (i.e., Jeff and Jay) can look at a situation completely differently. Uncle Tupelo was a union of (basically) two people. The "facts" leading up to their split could never be completely documented because there probably is no such thing. They disagreed on a lot of things. That's why they broke up.
  9. This happens all the time. I know it does. But I will never get used to it: I bought two Arcade Fire tix today for one of their NYC shows. Two $35.00 tickets. Total: $93.20.
  10. I'll admit that all seems right with the world when Dylan is front and center holding a guitar at a show, but its not like his guitar playing ever did or ever will carry the show. I understand the excitement, but it seems a bit over the top, no? I mean, the last time I saw him on guitar he had Charlie Sexton on one side and Larry Campbell on the other. I have never had the good fortune to be up close -- I mean REALLY up close -- so I suppose I wasn't able to appreciate what he was doing on guitar on that tour, but my impression was that he was basically mailing it in on guitar and letting S
  11. I admire your obvious passion for Dylan as you trash Modern Times, but I think that sentence above is the fatal flaw in your logic. What does that even mean? Why does Modern Times have to be held up against Highway 61 (or even TOOM)? Maybe Dylan doesn't want to try to be the stereotypical "greatest American artist to have ever lived" as you have put it. Would you be happier if he penned Its Alright Ma, Part II? You know he can't. I know he can't. He knows he can't. So maybe that's why he did Modern Times, no? Maybe Modern Times is an admission of sorts? It seems that so much of the

  15. "sooner than you'd think" How sweet would it be if SBS hits the stores on May 15 as a double album with a side B (or Disc 2) that never leaked?

  19. I am with Lammycat. The entire institution of sport is predicated on an assumption by the fans that everything is kosher. The instant that that credibility is shot, all of sport becomes nonexistent or irrelevant. Even the slightest bit of doubt in a fan's mind about whether players are throwing a game or persons involved are gambling (for or against their team) is unacceptable. Hence, any player/manager involved in it needs to be punished so harshly as to send a message to anyone else in the game that would consider it. On its face, Rose's penalty may not - on a gut level - feel fair or

  22. Seriously though. Do songwriting credits tell us anything other than that Jeff Tweedy is more willing to give credit where its due? Does anyone really think the Boquist brothers had nothing at all to do with Trace? Maybe the reason Jay can't match Trace is because he lost some *chief* songwriters? Maybe?
