britt daniel solo backstage: impossible not to sing the backing "oh yeahs"

Poor attempt at humor. Welcome to my (wife's) world. I am waiting for 4/28 but look forward to putting in my thoughts on the zydeco debate.

I ride on this train regularly. Twice a week. So I suppose I've got some rights.

I think this happens to be true, but I am not sure this case is your best example. This is typical Scalia territory here. When he thinks Congress has spoken clearly, he defers to Congress. ETA: I happen to think Scalia is often disingenuous about how "clear" certain things are, and that this is where he is a results-driven idealogue. But let's face it, everyone on the court is.

I dont think you have to be 17 or remember what it was like to be 17 to be knocked flat by I Just Wasn't Made For These Times. Or That's Not Me. Or You Still Believe in Me. Or God Only Knows. Or Caroline No. Or Here Today. Or I Know There's An Answer. It's cool if folks don't like it (or "get" it), but it's probably the album that gets me in the gut the hardest. It's my Plastic Ono Band. If that makes any sense. There's not an ounce of filler on there IMO. (Sorry for turning this into Pet Sounds Debated on VC v14.0)

Yeah, I think so. Some days I prefer Avery Island to Aeroplane.

I can't think of a song on Pet Sounds that isn't perfect.

The first silver jews album I ever heard opens with: where's the paper bag that holds the liquor, just in case I feel the need to puke. Love at first line. That being said, I don't think that anyone has topped John's "she's not a girl who misses much" from earlier in the thread.

For those lamenting the brief stops at various venues, when I saw the film in NYC, the directors were there. Canty said that one of the hard things about making a concert documentary is "viewer fatigue." And that they made a real effort to break up the flow of the movie by bringing it down and then up again to keep the viewer engaged. Except for the hardest of hardcore Wilco fans that's something that made a lot of sense to me. So, if you were bummed that you only got a couple of songs at Cain's, that could be the reason. Same with some of the (arguably) less explored themes of the movie

These were the thoughts swirling in my head too.

Also, for the record, Goldman is issuing new stock ($5 BN) to raise money to pay back TARP. Raising private capital. The idea that Goldman is using AIG money to pay back the government is not only irrelevant if it were true (thanks caliber), but frankly, it's false. Yes, I understand that dollars are fungible. I also understand that the only reason that Goldman is doing this is to enrich themselves (i.e., to avoid being subject to compensation restrictions imposed by the government). Those seem like the proper criticisms of Goldman here. But you cannot avoid the FACTS!!! (hey panther) w

I am aware of the saying. I don't see how it is relevant to whether we are, or are not, similar to Argentina which is what you asserted above and what I responded to, with evidence. You continue to make statements without evidence (e.g., how are we similar to Argentina?), and your conclusions don't become evidence simply because you reiterate them. Also, it is possible to have inflation without collapse. It is also possible to fight inflation. I expect that this country is headed down that path. I am not ready to accept that we are headed for collapse. And you have yet to react to the

Argentina's GDP is $260 Billion. As in, a third of our $700 billion bailout. Coming in just ahead of Finland ($246B)! (USA's gdp is 13.8 trillion, fwiw) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_count...y_GDP_(nominal) (also, rareair, is that Dave Kingman?)

No, it comes from Geithner's slip of the tongue. That's the evidence of conspiracy. And I didn't quote the Journal for crying out loud. It was a news story that I pulled from the Journal. It's not like I quoted an editorial. I offered to pull the story from the NYTimes if it will make everyone feel better.

And if we hadn't done anything (ie, we let the banks fail and the auto industry fail, etc), what do you think would have happened? Roses and chocolates? Or bank runs and the Fed printing money to make depositors whole, a shaken confidence in the dollar throughout the world, resulting in inflation and a worldwide depression? In other words, exactly where you say we are headed? Except that there's a chance that banks don't go under given what we are trying now, and maybe the economy recovers (or starts to recover), and we re-focus on fighting inflation and paying down debt with slow growth.

I linked to WSJ for a factual story. I didn't quote anything from the WSJ. Are you telling me that if I had linked to the New York Times, we wouldn't be arguing right now? Is THAT what this is about? (Also, when did I ever say everything was great?)

When it comes to books, my mind's eye is my favorite director and adapted screenplay writer. If this movie happens, I won't see it. No way it can enhance the book. And a very good chance it will hurt the book. The last thing I need is to get a pic of Luke Wilson in my head when I am reading about Hal. Also, G.O.N., I picked up Oblivion and let's just say I read your namesake. For fuck's sake, what a great short story.

Here is what we have avoided: the collapse of our financial system in general (for now), and the collapse of Goldman Sachs specifically. So right off the bat, you are wrong. And notwithstanding your claims, the dollar is not now ruined. Where is your evidence that it is ruined? Yes, it is in trouble, and yes, we have a long hard road ahead of us. But if the economy recovers (or starts to recover), the govt will have to fight inflation and pay down debt. Obama and Congress are trying. I can't fault them for trying. Also, you seem to be shifting your arguments. Before you were complain

do you have a go-to song or riff that you play?
MattZ replied to MattZ's topic in Solid State Technology
hey stagerug - just giving you a hard time, but you can't have 7 songs that you always play first when you pick up a guitar.
