  1. I know you don't mean it this way but you make it sound as if the money just disappears. As in, it's gone. When in actuality, it allows for these companies to continue paying their employees, their suppliers, etc. We aren't just flushing 17BN dollars down the toilet. People will absolutely benefit from this.
  2. I agree with everything above. Maybe I wasn't clear. I dont think Phish should do their own festivals until they are ready to. As a survivor (barely) of Coventry and Big Cypress, the thing HAS to be done right. And I am confident that, in time, they will. I just happen to think that large festivals in general suck and Phish shouldn't share a bill or stage with anyone. So, if it were up to me, I'd prefer they play Deer Creek or Alpine Valley. No Bonnaroo.
  3. Thanks A-Man. Here's my two cents: 1. The demand for a Phish reunion is large enough that I am confident that, if they wanted, they could come back as headliners at their own festival, a la The Great Went, etc. The old phans might not show up, but I have to think there is a younger generation that never saw the band that would go in droves. 2. He may be right that this is where the industry is headed, but it's a bit unfair for him to blame Phish for doing what every other band in the world seems to be doing. And yes, the industry is about money now, but it was always about money. With som
  4. Grrrr. (happy for you remphish, sad for me. Ryan, would it have killed you to play this on Halloween at the Apollo? Ferchrissakes)
  5. This thread inspired me to check out Sun Kil Moon. I had never heard them (him?) before. I just listened to Lost Verses and I need to go pick my jaw up off the floor. Holy crap. Thanks VC.
  6. This thread is getting me all paranoid about my guitars. I use dampitts, and live in a pre-war bldg in Manhattan with radiators that will dry the snot out of your nose in 2 mins flat.
  7. This made me laugh. Although in fairness, my change-up and fastball are/were the same speed. The change-up just involved a lot of herky jerky over-exaggerated pitching motion to give the appearance of incoming speed.
  8. There is no correct answer here. That is the problem. This isn't a test with an answer key that the teacher has in her desk. I assume you are speaking loosely, and mean that this is just your opinion. But, I do think that a big problem here is that people -- on both sides -- have convinced themselves that there is a correct answer.
  9. The NFL is a merit based system. If he "should" take a snap, chances are, he will. At some point he will prove himself. If he can't prove himself, he won't. No one has a grudge against the guy in the NFL. I think the good money says he can't, and won't. I don't know why you think he should, but won't.
  10. The salaries of CEOs, and their chosen method of transportation to Congress, are not the cause of the problems we face and reducing their salaries (or forcing them to drive Hybrids to Congress) will not solve the problems we face.
  11. If something isn't done, and done quickly, and if that something doesn't work, I've got news for everyone. We will all be taking pay cuts. It's called deflation.
  12. If you like that, and you want the hair on your head to stand up, check out MMJ doing Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You from the I'm Not There concert in NYC on 11/7/07. They also did Going to Acapulco. But the former blew the roof off the place. One of the greatest moments in my vast concert going experience. You can find it streaming at wolfgang's vault if you'd like. At about 2:50 or so (and 4:00 or so) in the song, the roof blew off the building and flew away. Both times. Not sure it comes across as well on the recording. But I remember it happening. (Check out Masters of
  13. I find that life is much easier if I just blame Karl Rove for everything, too.
  14. The yield actually went negative. So now, you can make a loan to the US govt and instead of receiving interest, you pay interest. The world is officially upside down.
  15. (Sidebar: When I poked fun earlier about who doesn't like live music, I didn't mean to suggest that dealing with talkers, hipsters, meatheads, smokers, snorters, stoners, pukers, drunks, baseball hats, crappy opening bands, etc. was enjoyable. Going to see live music sucks ass. Except for the live music part. That's all I meant.)
  16. You are a real prick, you know that? Oh, it's why I like you, but still...
  17. Incorrect. It is almost always necessarily bad or an indication of something wrong (whether that's an injury or just getting older). Some pitchers have the mojo to adjust, but those pitchers are rare, and even still, I wouldn't say that makes a loss of velocity not necessarily bad. Having to change the way you pitch if you are a successful pitcher would be a bad thing in my mind.
  18. Thanks Norbs/Mr.Rain. Also, bobbob, I know you kept insisting the Mets would pay too much for KRod. I guess you can't laugh too hard at them now. Maybe only just a little bit.
  19. Agreed. I was at this show too. The whole MSG run, actually. I thought 12/29 was great too. My favorite of the three.
  20. I can live with the contract, but I dont love the signing. I am arguing with other Mets fans right now who think he is the greatest reliever since Dennis Eckersley. I remember someone posted stats of something like 10 relievers last year without names and without save totals? And it was impossible to pick K-Rod out? Does anyone still have that? Or know where I can find it? Would help me win the stupid fight I am in. Thanks.
  21. What does it mean to not be a huge live music guy? Does that mean you don't get out all that much to see live music? Or does it mean you don't like live music? And if it's the latter, what the heck is wrong with you?
  22. Well, let me put it this way. I think it needs some minor tweaks (the action is too high and the intonation might be off by a smidge), but I have to think that after a decent set up, it will be close to perfect. It's got the usual nicks and dings that you'd expect from a guitar that is 44 years old, and I half assume that those nicks and dings drove the price down a bit. Any of those "imperfections" that might have driven the price down add character as far as I am concerned and have no impact on the sound which is all that I care about. I pulled it out of the box, slapped a capo on the 5
