I saw the Fiery Furnaces open for Wilco in Burlington in UV's prom dance gym and they rocked, one non stop rock show from them. I was amazed at how long they played with out stopping. It sounds like it could be annoying, but I found it energizing. The drummer at the time (don't know if he still playes with them) was channeling Keith Moon, playing air-fills and all. He was certainly legit, though. It was no act. However, I saw one night of the RCMH shows and they did not translate as well. As for the Lips in Rochester, that would be a legendary show for these parts fer sure. But I doubt it

I've seen them in various sized venues ranging from club-size (Capital in Ottawa) to college Aud (U of V in Burlington, which was really just an old gym) to outdoors (Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo) with the largest being Radio City (which they sonically filled pretty dam well). I'll be able to make a close comparison next month as I'll be seeing them play hometown Rochester, NY(I still can't freaking believe it) and then in NYC for the 12/15 NY show (imagine my surprise after getting tickets for that one, thinking it would be the last time to see them for awhile, when all of a sudden....hea

Abilene is a great new saloon. It's on Liberty Pole Way. Ask for it by name when you get in town. The Aud is a great venue and is perfect for Wilco. I never dreamed they 'd make it to town to play that place and I'm happy they're coming. The wife and I are headed to NYC to see them open for Neil at MSG 11 days later. I thought that would be our best last chance to see them for awhile (and what a way, too. We had to travel to Nashville and the Ryman last March because we missed them together the last time they played Toronto). Well, what a freaking bonus surprise when I saw this announced. E

See everybody at Nick's before the show (they'll be closed by the time it's over. Too many ne'erdowells latenight to maintain operating, at least according to RPD). Then I'll see everybody at the show, I'll be the guy tossing his wife in the air in pure joy musical joy.

Where'd you hear that rumor? Any credibility? Plates are a wonderful thing, by the way.

If you're at the show, do NOT miss Heavy Trash. Each time I've seen them they've killed.

I've always thought that sounded like a perfect Neil young tune. Even before I realized his influence on Tweedy. As far as covers go... I'd love to hear Wilco crank "Prisoners" one night as a closer. It tells their story once upon a time (and likely evermore).

Rock Around the Clock has about 3 false endings, really sloppy endings that re-start after somebody plays another note or two. And they play one of those re-starts much slower than they did throughout the song proper. Very, very similar to how Dreamer ends. All the Replacements re-issues are great and have some really cool bonus tracks. Greart packaging and liner notes. The Sire releases are supposedly scheduled to come out this Sept.

Yer quick. I went and checked the PW board and the poster got it right, I have smog in my brain. I also was thinking of the wrong bonus track. I edited above, couldn't find the strike through (wish I had smarts).

Ha. Just an hour or so before I read this, I added a signature to my VC profile that's a Tweedy quote about the 'mats. Someone mentioned that quote in a thread on a Westerberg board recently. I had said how much I thought that the way the Replacements closed out Rock Around The Clock (on the new bonus ed. of Stink) sounded like the way WIlco closed out Dreamer in my Dreams. It made me wonder if Tweedy or one of them had ever heard a boot of that 'mats song and it crept in (not so?)sub-consciously. The person who replied cited that quote. It really does. I hadn't heard it before I bought

I just listened to the NPR stream and yer right. It does sound like they play it to sound close to Rock 'n Roll All Night. Then the Total Pros come in and you get Kiss w/horns.

How about that Ryman show, huh? That's the one show the wife and I have seen this time around and that's where I done seen those cameras. Well, thanks for your feedback darkstar. Here's hoping we see that documentary, wherein Tweedy's nudie suit would be immortalized for the masses. And if you and your girlfriend should happen to make the final cut, you'll have to tip us off to who in the film you are.

Any unsubstantiated rumors or incorrect information to report about all the shooting that took place in Feb/March? If I recall correctly, when Sunken Treasure was officially acknowledged as a formal DVD project in '06, it was around this time of year. And it was shot around the same time of year then as the crew was shooting earlier this year (give or take a month). I'm reaching for anything because I'm none too sure I'll have a chance to see them live again for quite sometime. I heart speculation.

True dat......that's exactly what I had with my wife while we were there the night before....Budweiser, burgers, onion rings and plenty of those sights and sounds. That place is an original.

I had to post, I rarely do. The Ryman show was thee best Wilco show I've ever been too, and I've been to some good ones (2nd row orch. @the Aud in '03, that sort of thing). One the best concerts I've been to ever. They are playing as a band so well and so full and intimately with each other, it thrills me to see it person. These guys are up there with any of the classics....and let me tell you, anybody who can hold an audience like Tweedy did for "Someone Else's Song" as seemingly effortless like he did in a place like the Ryman is a musician that will be known for a long, long time. That's great piece, thanks for the link. Walsh has a book about the Replacements coming out in Nov., for those who don't know. "All Over But The Shouting"; I read an excerpt from it on the Reveille page that was linked from the Westerberg site. I am looking forward to it as a 20yr (and I don't mean old) Mat's fan. Walsh appears to be an interesting writer and it looks like he had many good sources and stories to draw from. Check it out.

I am shouting out for my ex-wife from Roch-cha-cha who was there also (she's not on the board here). She and her friend were in Row P and they said that there couldn't have been a bad seat in the house. I've seen the band 7 times and she only once, so I stayed in town with our boy, and they went up and had a great time. Sounds like the guys were hot and in a good mood and I am looking forward to another Northeastern swing from them before this is all said and done. Traffic report - their aprox. average mph on the return trip was 21. Beauty, eh?
