  1. Nope, he was a few rows behind us. He stuck it out.
  2. LeRoy and Marvin Tate will be doing an instore performance at the record store I work at tomorrow (Laurie's Planet of Sound, 4639 N Lincoln in Chicago, right off the brown line) at around 6 pm tomorrow. Come say hi!
  3. I'm happy I haven't been playing attention to setlists, because Too Far Apart was a great surprise. The sound, weather, and scenery couldn't have been better. I enjoyed it way more than any of the Auditorium shows of late.
  4. If by "blow the place out" for Andrew Bird you mean most of the people left, then you would be right.
  5. oh whoa. that is weird, Ben, the Detholz! bassist was wearing a tshirt with the full "H" on it. Tonite was great, my Mastadon was delicious!!!
  6. Thanks all! Metal burgers at Kuma's and Detholz! at the Bottle... should be good times!
  7. best: tie: 2002-08-01 Hideout, Chicago. 2002-04-06 Martyrs, Chicago. 2001-09-15 Abbey Pub, Chicago (this one is commemorated in a John written setlist on my wall next to me. a few days after a particular day that was kinda rough on the world, and holy shit... he wrote those lyrics about it, no??) Worst: Audtiorium Theatre. Anytime. (A little spoiled after those listed above).
  8. in other Hitchcock news: Limited-edition Robyn Hitchcock CD and LP box sets now available for pre-order Stream the full box set Robyn Hitchcock has finally begun the daunting task of compiling his groundbreaking post-Soft Boys solo catalog with the I Wanna Go Backwards box set. The first of two upcoming collections, I Wanna Go Backwards includes three of his most classic albums. Hitchcock's first solo album Black Snake Diamond Role is a private rock album featuring ex-Soft Boys, a Vibrator, a Fur and other friends. I Often Dream of Trains finds Robyn at his all-acoustic zenith with a semin
  9. Ha! I'm also the one who signs up to give them to friends, but only with counseling that I don't agree with them. I'd rather they get their slow death for free than pay for it.
  10. I'm sure she just did it so she could give them to a friend...
  11. Anyone hear anything about a new Bonnie "Prince" Billy in November?
  12. Happy birthday to my favoritist show going buddy EVER. Our last meeting was too brief, we shall do it up right next week! :party :badger
  13. Here's Marvin's MySpace. LeRoy is repsonsible for a lot of the music on the album. You can purchase it here, or if you are in Chicago at Laurie's Planet of Sound, or better yet buy it off the man Monday at Hideout when Marvin sings with an amazing band consisting of LeRoy (whose guitar playing has gotten fucking awesome, pardon my french), Emmett Kelly, Matt Lux, Azita and Dan Bitney. I guarantee a great time. Here are some great pics from the CD release party a few weeks ago.
  14. this may be of interest only to completists, but at the Chicago show I was able to buy the looong out of print Protection Spells and the Ghost for $12 each (as opposed to the $100+ they go for on eBay). Supposedly some found stock at Secretly Canadian.

  16. I think I'm just gonna go short. Having seen the Tain the first time ever at Schubas and most recently with an orchestra, I don't think it could ever be any better. I can go the rest of my life without Mariner's Revenge song again. The only epic I'd care to see again is "The Island". I'll be quite happy with the short stuff.
  17. The MySpace page is up, so you can now check out some songs, and please add him as a friend, so I can not be one of the only three
  18. This Saturday at Hideout in Chiacgo is the release party for Marvin Tate's new CD Family Swim which LeRoy plays a lot of the music on. I really haven't heard anything else like it... Not only will you get to see them perform but Adam Fitz is also playing, you get a copy of the new issue of Chicago's literary magazine Make, AND the flyer is leading me to believe hot dogs will be served?? Quite the value for only $8. here's what timeout has to say: http://www.timeout.com/chicago/Details.do?...marvin_tate.xml
  19. I'm just curious after seeing the feeding frenzy that is that Iron and Wine thread.
  20. I'm in complete agreement, though I don't know if it will even be top ten, which makes me sad.
