I highly recommend checking this out too: I hope the documentary gets a super deluxe DVD release with lotsa extras!

US doesn't have a gatefold, and it doesn't sound very good. hell my center hole is too small on one LP. I will look into the 180g!

Roky Erikson movie..."You're Gonna Miss Me"
Dr. Steve Brule replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
Gods yeah. I bet there's not a whole lot of footage though. It might make a good hour or so. -
They have reopened... new management I believe. One of the bartenders dropped some flyers by the store. Post a reminder about next Thursday next week and I will try and swing by after work. Likewise if you can make your way a few blocks up Lincoln, you can come visit a real live thriving indie record store at 4639 N Lincoln!

Roky Erikson movie..."You're Gonna Miss Me"
Dr. Steve Brule replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
This is available regarding Syd.. haven't seen it but I hear it's okay. The Roky movie is harrowing. Not quite the feel good rock n roll biopic I was expecting. I was familiar with his life story, but I just wasn't really aware that after institutionalization etc. things were so bleak for him. It's too bad his brother didn't intervene sooner, but at least he got involved when he did. -
As a long time Finn Fann (2/3 of my life!) I will say Time On Earth has been a grower for me, but his last few albums have been too. I love that it has a much different feeling than the solo album, and it's not just a sell more units by slapping a more familiar name on it move.

That's why I said as of now. I'm fully anticipating that to become my favorite based only on the track listing. And no thanks, I do not want to listen to a leak. I am fully geeked about opening up a fucking wooden box and putting it in the CD player and cranking it up. And uh, wearing my medallion as I listen. Very very very long p4k interview here.

do you mean the songs: ohia magnolia electric company? as of now that's the best album, the last album (fading trails) is songs from the sessions that are going to be released as 4 individual discs in the box set in august. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm counting on the first disc from the box to be album of the year!

Josh Ritter- The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
Dr. Steve Brule replied to Boots's topic in Someone Else's Song
I am very interested, I will just wait until I have an actual CD in my hands to be interested. -
Kot's review is pretty right on. The Tain sounded pretty damn amazing though, and if they had just performed that it would have been a perfect show! It was quite an experience though, and I was glad to have experienced it. It's just weird to see a band with as many players on stage as were in the crowd the first time I saw them.

of Montreal was what my weekend at Pitchfork built up to. I was sweaty, covered in glitter and applesauce and did not see too much of a man's ass. I was too busy dancing to take pix, but I'm sure some great ones will get out there. In the meantime, this is a pretty good representation: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=of+montrea...fork&m=text the woman in gold who was dishing out the applesauce is Kevin's wife. Before the show she brought their daughter out who hacked away at the drums.

Even though I like the individuals playing with Iron & Wine, I'm not really too happy about them becoming the Allman Brothers. Iron & Wine used to sound like Iron & Wine, now they don't. I yelled "Judas" at Sam Beam, but all the freaking electric guitars were too loud.

yeah, there is no incentive for anyone to come to our store to buy it. according to our WEA rep no Chicago indies are stocking it.

It is funny the record stores are raising such a stink about this. I wonder how many copies of 3121 were sold in the UK shops? Probably not enough to put them out of business without those sales. Despite my store NOT carrying the new Smashing Pumpkins, we managed to have our biggest non December weekday in the 10 year history of the store. One album is not gonna cripple the major shops. Hell, the Prince giveaway may drive people to the shops to buy his classic work.

Pretty fascinating stuff: Quite a thread!

I don't think has been officially released in the US yet. I do recommend getting King Khan and BBQ Show What's for Dinner though in the meantime.
