  1. You can never have too many parties right? Hotel SnS presents: I Hate the 90s Party! Come dressed in your finest 90s garb: Flannels, Cross Colours, Zubaz, Doc Martens, Keds, those hats Blossom wore, etc... Listen to the good and bad music from the 90s! Dance the Macarena, see if I care! You Can't Touch This! February 16 10pm 1625 N Mozart (the one with MC Hammer on the door) Chicago, IL Rumour has it there will be some foreigners...
  2. Painful. If you can take transit, you should.
  3. I picked a great time to finally join the frenz club. I'm torn on this, CH have long been my favorite band. I still have my video of their mtv spring break show from 87... i know it by heart. I never got to see them live, but from recordings i realize how vital paul was to the band. i wonder had they reunited while paul was still alive, would it have saved him? then again HE left the band all those years ago. I eagerly anticipate the record, and am sure I will enjoy the shows, but with a very heavy heart,
  4. The Hotel SnS "I Hate the 90s" party is February 16.
  5. http://frenzforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7...71/m/8311027323 Gryphon is Peter Green, it's like 3 pages in.
  6. From Peter Green: One thing, yes Mark Hart IS part of the band. Yes the album that was recently recorded IS the Crowded House album not a Neil solo release. Over the next few weeks expect to hear a lot more. The club will have a newsletter out late Feb. Contains the 'first' Crowded House 07 Interview with Neil (during the auditions), photos of the guys in the studio and details of the new drummer (that's assuming the auditions are a success), album track listing etc. As a friend of mine asked 'Who will replace Paul'. My reply is that 'no one will ever REPLACE Paul, but you can bet th
  7. LOL... it's not ANYWHERE on it, but it plays at 45 rpm! you think they'd mention that
  8. Honsetly, I found them to be one of the most disappointing live bands I have ever seen. For a band whose records I really love, the live show was dull.
  9. I'm kinda worried about the Discovered Covered comp... It is the finest into to his work but we haven't been able to reorder it for the store, and Amazon has a long wait for it as well. There is an affordable single disc "best of" that just came out.
  10. To further confuse things I like the Elected, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins, and Postal Service and hate Rilo Kiley and Death Cab For Cutie. Judy - I ADORE the Sloan record, but I am going to count that for 2007, and I'm pretty sure in the Top 10.
  11. I really love 'em, and I know a lot of people are more "meh" about them. I have known them for a while, so it could be a subconscious nepotism thing as well. Jenny Lewis... I dunno, I just really really fucking love that record. My Brightest Diamond might have been a bit higher, but I didn't get to listen to it all that much.
  12. If you want blurbs, they are at samorama.com. Tom Waits Orphans I give an honorary #1, like a lifetime acheivement award, or one of those silver oscars they give the people when they are on the verge of death. I just didn't feel right including it in the top 50. Sadies get #1 live album, followed by that Centro-matic ACL fest set on iTunes. 1. Scott Walker - The Drift 2. Califone - Roots and Crowns 3. Calexico - Garden Ruin 4. Decemberists - Crane Wife 5. Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat 6. Howe Gelb - 'Sno Angel 7. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - the Letting Go 8. Belle &
  13. Tonite in Chicago we got the freaking Chicago Symphony Orchestra and MMJ in tuxes for the encore. I'm sure everyone who went to a show tonite thought they were at the best show, but this could have been one of the best shows I have ever attended. What an amazing rock and roll band. I am not one to really keep up with setlists, and I'm really glad I didn't know they were playing such a great selection of oldies. I nearly lost it during Phone Went West and the Orchestra on At Dawn was transcendental. I hope to goodness someone taped this!
  14. From the old 97s website: Commercials: 4 (Rhett's cover of Paul Simon's "Homeward Bound" for MasterCard, the Chili's spot by the Old 97's, the Shiner Beer campaign featuring Rhett and the band, and the EA Sports/Madden NFL ad with the Old 97's "Question")
  15. I found a paste over butcher cover in a thrift store for $3. Once I realized what it was, over a year later, I sold it for a couple thousand. I mean, it's not really a great album...
  16. I am DJing tomorrow night, it's billed as a country night, but that's pretty loosely defined. I am honored to have been chosen to be in charge (musically) of the busiest drinking night of the year in the US. http://delilahschicago.com/calendar.html
  17. Oh I did forget the hand silkscreened limited to 500-something in which the first hundred something are on white vinyl Decemberists - Her Majesty. Which is my favorite album by them anyways.
  18. Songs: Ohia Magnolia Electric Company. It's the only record I bought new that the outside cover has split from so much use. The inner paper sleeve is hand decorated by Jason Molina. Or my mono Scott Walker Scott 2.
  19. Wow, that sounds like it will be pretty cool. They could wash their uniforms!
  20. I forgot to mention, one of my favorite local bands is doing a little tour! You may have seen them at the end of the Conan show when Wilco were on in Chicago, they are a marching band who play really awesome stuff, and the best place to see them is a little club. Go, and be prepared to dance and have a great time! http://www.mucca-pazza.org/index.html Fall Tour 2006 Thursday, November 16th At the High Noon Saloon Madison, WI with Low Skies and The New Kentucky Quarter, 9pm, $8, 21+ Friday, November 17th At the Gardner Lounge Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA with Low Skies Saturday, N
  21. Outside the Hammerstein Ballroom on a perfectly crisp November night, a towering black man dressed Wu-Tang circa 1995 is bellowing, "DECEMBERISTS TICKETS. DECEMBERISTS IS SOLD OUT." I have stared at him in a thousand different states of disbelief for so long he takes note and asks, "Hey big guy, you need tickets?" Must be the wool sweater. Inside, dozens of trend-spotting writers, bloggers, and shills are buzzing about the best CMJ performances of 2006, particularly the Knife, a Depeche Mode throwback whose sadly asexual black-lit glow-stick pantomime at Webster Hall was so impenetrable it j
  22. I have been a fan since I heard Waiata when I was 8. The s/t Crowded House album (on cassette) was one of the first albums I bought myself (I was 11). If I had a time machine the first thing I would do is go back and see Crowded House live.
  23. I searched back for my gut reaction Top 10, so that's the list I am using. 1)Peoria Lunch Box Blues - Magnolia Electric Company - Songs: Ohia 2)Reservations - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco 3) Because - Abbey Road - Beatles 4) Second Guessing - Reckoning - R.E.M. 5)Angels of Ashes - Scott 4 - Scott Walker 6)Hit the Plane Down - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain - Pavement 7) The Murder Mystery - Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground 8) Ambulance Blues - On the Beach - Neil Young 9) The World Has Turned and Left Me Here - Weezer (Blue) - Weezer 10) Holloway Jail - Muswell Hillbillies - Kinks that w
