Depends on the song/album. "Girl From the North Country" (original sorry Johnny Cash) underrated. Half of Magical Mystery Tour/Let It Be- overrated. But keep the remaining half and call it still somehow underrated.

See Sup Pop Records for help. If you want to dive in I'd say 'The Great Destroyer' is the most accesable, 'Trust' is a minimalist masterpiece, I still need to get to know the new one but I hear good things.

It is awesome in that it has nothing to do with being "good". They are paying tribute to vintage "bad" movies with swamp mosters, pointless nudity and fake blood.

Might be a little too long. Requires too much patience for the hook.

If the song was concerned about Toni Morrison there would have been at least 3 suicides, a couple murders, and Oprah would put a sticker on SBS reccomending it. And a freshman lit class would tell you you're a dumb bitch if you don't like it. Wait.....maybe I'm projecting. Sorry.

So, I'm reading "Wilco: Learning How to Die"

Thanks you guys make me feel better about an inane argument I had with someone on here about NPR and Radiohead a week ago. Love you guys, like the book. Really makes me want to drink beer with John Stiratt. Now theres a survery: which Wilco member best to drink beer with (keeping in mind JT is out cause he doesn't like to ingest substances). -
I remember some story about on one song they had everyone play and instrument they were uncomfortable on (might be the noisier version of misunderstood which was mixed in with the mellow version making the song we know and love). Remember that violing screeching at the very beginning of BT? I might be wrong but I think its there. That wouldn't be the same instance as Jeff playing Bass seeing as he is quite comfortable with the instrument.

# 1: Sure noisey endings can be a way to reflect an existential angst or the ideas of interference in personal life and relationships. They do that well. But they also fucking rock. #2: John Fahey has no lyrics. Gastr Del Sol (Jimmy) love the use of noisy disruptions.

Yes, but in any discussion of art, lit., music etc. It is usually more persuasive to provide a decent example when making an umbrella statement like "I realize Wilco are a boring band fronted by a musically empty soul-cougher" and why would you follow that up by "I Still Love Them"? Thats like saying this band is freakin dumb and repugnant, but I like them because I am the same.

I would be curioius to who you would gesture towards as an example of lyrics that aren't shitty and shallow. You probably don't need to guess that there are hundreds of people on here that would love to battle that point out with you. But, before any such thing happens, I wonder whats your antidote. Who writes a good line if Tweedy's are 'shitty'?

I don't think the song contains that episode. It seems like there is no mention of contest, just a strange and sleepy decent into something comfortable, otherworldly and suspect. It always reminds me of the scene in Train Spotting when McGregor OD's and he falls through the carpeted floor while Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" is playing.

Wilco had a great chance to debut at #1 On Billboard

Oh well, I don't really care if they make number one, and I bet they don't either. The best thing about it happening would mean (like it did for Modest Mouse) that really popular music can be interesting. Doesn't make Wilco look any better, just makes music purchasers look better. -
I only listen to 180 gram vinyl and I only watch films in 16mm. This is an insult to my format preference.

No, and I sent an inquiry email. Apparantly you can't get a reply within two hours. Damn this world that revolves not around me.

Was he nice/smart/attractive/inspiring/informative?

Thereby avoiding one of the biggest marketing blunders of the 21st century. Phew.

I believe he prefers Digimon.
