  1. I can tell that, sorry I was kind of kidding at the end of my post and it probably came off as passive-aggressive. See how well I moderate a good debate?
  2. I don't think either side of this argument should be all that hard to fathom. 1. Wall Street is one of the most powerful, and at times predatory entities in American business and politics. They have lobbyists, and have stuffed the pockets of so many politicians to serve their interests and not those of the citizens/economic health. Having a dignified figure such as Obama take large sums of money from them is disappointing. 2. Most former presidents embark on lucrative speaking engagements, including speaking for Wall Street. Why shouldn't Obama cash in? His speech now doesn't change any of
  3. I need to read up. This new health care push came fast. I don't really know what's in it, or if it has any better chance of passing than the last pile.
  4. I'd ask you to explain the joke but Jeff would cry.
  5. Yeah, it's pretty much the same 'supply side economics' approach we've academically and empirically proven to be terrible several times in the last few decades.
  6. I'm going to jump on board for another season of Silicon Valley.
  7. I might have to put Stop Making Sense on this evening to commemorate.
  8. God, can you imagine how dang smart their kids are going to grow up to be?
  9. And U.S. forces mistakenly killed 18 allies in Syria. Crappy crap. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-air-strike-idUSKBN17F1OT
  10. Somehow this is where I picture other volumes going. Why do you guys think the title is "Together at Last"?
  11. I know, I know- but the review I read on the new Guided By Voices double album says it's the most consistent since they reformed. I'm kind of hopeful. I know, I know.
  12. Wow man. Sean Spicer really fucked up. That had to have been one of the most massive PR blunders in recent history.
  13. Well this is hard for me. I really hate Al-Assad. That man is a piece of garbage, and I was kind of rooting for the revolutionaries to overcome their oppressors, but in reality nothing can be that simple, especially in the middle east. It doesn't take too long a memory to recall another middle-east dictator who used chemical weapons on his people and we thought the president could take unilateral action on his military.... etc. etc.
  14. I'd read that they were going to make Susan Rice their new target. Sounds like it's gaining some traction with the constituents.
  15. It's hard to be Freddie Freeloader when you're making just enough for the city. (I tried)
  16. I don't point that arrow at you sir! And like I said I'd have to point half an arrow at me. I do like the pushback on my rockabilly stereotype. It's a cool style and likely, as with most stereotypes, my view is based on lack of experience and data. I won't take back what I said about Ness though. I have the data.
  17. Re: Social D. I think their haters and lovers have taken it too far. Mommies Little Monster is a pretty classic punk record, s/t is cheesy but undeniably tuneful. The Soc D superfans are largely douche bags (as are an incomprehensible number of rockabilly fans for reasons I can never figure out), and Mike Ness is oh so easy to hate. The dude is a tool. As a teen I watched the Another State of Mind documentary on them, Youth Brigade and Minor Threat. There's a scene where Mike Ness is explaining himself to the camera as he smears his eyeliner in the bathroom mirror. Pretty hilarious.
  18. I like many of these a lot (not Jerry so much but I get it). Sometimes when I think about the many years of great creations from Ira Kaplan it impresses me, maybe even more than Stephen Malkmus who occupies a similar sphere. No, maybe not like Tweedy where I'd rush to see him pull up a stool and an acoustic, but a staggeringly joyous catalog of music. As much as he has annoyed me at different points Paul McCartney (in spite of being obvious) has made way too many wonderful things not to mention.

  20. The mere request for immunity increases suspicion in my eyes.
