  1. I wouldn't mind seeing them again either. I think tickets go on sale here Friday. I KNOW my son will be going. When he graduated HS in '06 I got him tickets to a run of Midwest shows as a present. He'd heard the stories about my Dead escapades when I was young and I really wanted him to have that experience.
  2. Yeah. I might have never heard Big Star if it weren't for Wilco (and this board), but one of the very first 45s I ever owned was The Letter. I was maybe 5-6 years old. And then Cry Like A Baby. Years later, when I found out he was like 16 years old when The Letter came out I nearly shit my pants. What a deeply soulful singer. RIP, Alex. You were one of the great voices of our times.
  3. One of my favorite David Nelson Band moments: Bill Laymon (from the stage, between songs): "And you can check our schedule at nelsonband dot com" Drunk dude in the audience: "Dot com, baby, dot com!!!" Bill: "Chill out, dude. This ain't the fucking Silicon Valley." Damn I miss Billy.
  4. OK, let's plan ahead. Who will I see at The Creek 0n 8/12 & 13? (I'm looking at YOU, MattZ )
  5. Best laugh I had last night (courtesy of my 19 year old kid): "Hey, wtf is Abe Simpson doing onstage?"
  6. Trey really did say some beautiful things. He mentioned Stagnation, the Trespass LP, Selling England (which he said was one of the greatest albums ever), and Lamb, of course. When Mike spoke he complimented Phish on doing "Watcher", saying "You guys did that better than we used to do it most of the time".
  7. "C'mon and get up here and show me that you're not too rich to be cool!" -Iggy Man, that "I Wanna Be Your Dog" was freaky-deaky!
  8. I do have the Letterman show with Bob & Jerry on VHS here. Very surreal stuff.
  9. Hardwood, did you see that? Oh My God! Phish does "Watcher Of The Skies" to open the program - damn near perfectly! And then Trey's wonderful, heartfelt introduction. It WAS an inspired choice for him to be the guy I'm so stoked about this - I hope y'all are watching.
  10. "The Coolest 70 Year Old On Earth" Happy Birthday, Professor!
  11. Oh yeah. I have some P&F shows from Vegas (I want to say from Fall '05) with Chris and he fits right in. The dude is just one hell of a singer, one of the best in our time, really.
  12. Wooooosh. Well damn, that was quick.
  13. The Road Trips came in today. I'm listening to it right now. Very nice. Since they were going with this time frame I REALLY wish they would've put out 12/1/71, though. Phil is really on here (11/14 Other One), but imo his stuff on 12/1 is some of the very finest playing of his career. Not knocking this one at all - it's VERY good. But now it just means that 12/1 won't see the light of day for a long time (if ever) and that's a shame. It's out there of course (I have the SBD on cassette ) but it really deserves a commercial release. I think it's that good.
  14. I did catch the boys on Jimmy Fallon this week. They did Whipping Post. It was a VERY truncated version (maybe 6 minutes), but 6 minutes of the ABB doing Whipping Post>almost any other thing you're likely to see on network TV.
  15. I'd just as soon cut off a limb before I'd get rid of the tapes. This huge pile of case logic boxes lining my wall in this room here - hell, that's my LIFE from about '84-'95 or so.
  16. I wasn't joking. I LOVE The Clash, Pretenders, early U2, and a few others, but DS really was more my style - in the era of 'skinny-tie' synth-heavy New Wave music DS really stood out. they were almost a throwback, in a way. It's kind of remarkable they were so popular, except for the fact that good songwriting is good songwriting, and the cream inevitably rises to the top.
  17. Hands down, my favorite band that came out in that period (late 70s - mid 80s). Love Over Gold is one of my top 20 LPs alltime. Telegraph Road is the very definition of "epic". Never got to see DS live, but I did see Knopfler a few years ago and it was just a fantastic evening.
  18. Nice! That made me dig out one of my many Pig Tribute tapes I used to make on cassette. This one was made on 3/8/00: Side A: Katie Mae - 2/13/70 Schoolgirl - 11/8/69 The Rub - 4/28/71 Caution - 11/3/65 King Bee - 2/11/69 Mr. Charlie - 5/26/72 Hurts Me Too - 5/24/72 Hard To Handle - 2/14/70 Side B: Easy Wind - 5/15/70 The Same Thing - 3/18/67 Chinatown Shuffle - 5/11/72 Big Boss Man - 4/5/71 Operator - 9/18/70 Good Lovin' - 11/8/69 Pain In My Heart - 11/19/66 Next Time You See Me - 4/26/72 Now that I have a shitload of newer SBD Pig stuff I should make another mix.
  19. You don't know how much I wish I COULD be there, M(. You'll have to be my eyes and ears. These guys have grown on me to the point where I listen to their music WAY more than Wilco. Just a fantastic band.
  20. Yeah, that's my attitude about Jimi recordings as well. I always liked that double LP "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" that Warner Bros put out in '82. It's taken from a number of different shows and years but still flows pretty well from song to song imo. That version of "Red House" on that record (from 7/17/70) is my favorite version of that song ever.
  21. Haven't got mine yet, but I just ordered about a week ago. I'm hoping by this time next week. I'm NOT a fan of the packaging - sometimes it's a real bitch trying to get the discs out. I'd much rather have plastic cases myself. Anyway, it'll be nice to get something I've never heard before. It always amazes me how quickly Keith fit in with the band - it's like he'd always been there.
