  1. Yes, it was...but it was 9 O'CLOCK IN THE GODDAMN EVENING!
  2. I think you're absolutely correct, and it makes me very sad. These are very different times. ND had 3 championships in 15 years, but it's been 21 since the last one. The eternal quandary - do we want to become a 'football factory' in order to win the championship, or do we just maintain the academic reputation and play middle-of-the-road football.
  3. Matt, your brain is in fine working order - but I think it goes like this: '96 - Clifford Ball '97 - Great Went '98 - Lemonwheel '99 - Big C '03 - IT '09 - whatever the hell that thing was called out in CA I always thought it was neat that Harpua ended The Ball (unfinished), and then started The Went, to give 'closure'.
  4. Many thanks to all of you. All the b'day wishes really means a lot to me. You folks are the BEST. A fairly nondescript day, all in all. I just laid around and watched Phish's Clifford Ball box set. But, while going to pick up my wife from work a rookie cop gave me a speeding ticket (32 mph in a 20). I don't think he dug my basset (sweet Delia Dee) snarling at him. Unbelievably, I was dead sober at the time, but that situation has since been rectified. Again, all the best to y'all.
  5. First sentence - I agree 110%. Second sentence - please God NO. Cowher is excellent, but I cannot stand that guy.
  6. I was hoping David would play something from 12/5/81 (Indy). My first show. Just a few days before my 19th birthday. Sheet of blotter, ludes, bag o' grass, lotsa beer. I didn't know wtf was going on AT ALL. Not too familiar at the time with the music. We just walked up and bought a ticket at the door. It WAS a good time, but I didn't really "get it" until a year or so later. Listening to the show now, I realize that was a fine one! Completely unique CC Rider - at the end they go to double-time ala "Around & Around". Sweet. And of course the Playin' is as out there as you'd hope for.
  7. I finally got the Clifford Ball DVD box set, and I must say thank God this stuff was filmed. THIS is the way I like to remember the band. I wasn't at The Ball but I saw them just a few days before this and it was so obvious by this time that the band was just going to get BIG - but to experience the band before they were 'on the radar' was just such a beautiful thing. Just the thing I needed after Jerry's demise. They hadn't got lazy yet, or got into bad stuff...they were just killing everywhere they went. This is my favorite fest. Now to the obvious question: this took 13 years to see th
  8. I don't have any images to submit, but please please PLEASE have "The Monkey" in this calendar. He is the icon of this whole place, if you ask me.
  9. So true. Not to mention not fighting in any wars themselves. Cheney had 5 deferments, you know.
  10. Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely bust out some FZ today.
  11. I had to bump this - I didn't want it falling off of the front page.
  12. Boy...man...God....shit... it's your freaking birthday!!! Hope it was a good one, my friend!
  13. Regarding the 12/1/73 show: quite possibly my favorite banter ever. But you HAVE to listen to the transition from Playin' into UJB. Jerry just goes insane and RUNS with it. One of my favorite things from all of Fall '73.
  14. All good choices. The more I think about it the White Album would be a great candidate for that LP cover thread.
  15. First off, welcome to VC! There are Packer fans here - I know Beltmann is a fan, among many others. Btw I'm fish4prez over at PT - I'll see ya over there, too.
  16. First dance = It's Just That Simple. SWEEET. I wish we could have done that - but Wilco was not a band when I got married!
  17. Nothing wrong with making money at all. I guess it all depends on how you treat the the you employ, yes? If you're exploting the hell out of them it's not right, but plenty of small business owners do right by those who are the lifeblood of the company.
  18. I'm with ya, blue. I'm almost exclusively an IPA lover. Ruination and Hop juice tops the list, with stuff like Mojo, Hop Devil right up there.
  19. Vibes to ol' Leather Lungs. I hope he has a complete and speedy recovery.
  20. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it, man! Yeah, those shows can be quite the marathon, huh? I got the same feeling at my first show - it was like "damn, that was a LOT of music - you mean there's a whole 'nother set?" It's also awesome that you went not knowing the catalogue. No preconceptions or expectations. You were able to just soak it up in real time.
  21. THIS! Best of luck, b2. Have a great day, my friend. As Lou Reed would say, "It's the beginning of a great adventure".
  22. A Day In The Life would be an obvious (and perfect) choice. Nels would KILL on the end part. Cry Baby Cry would be awesome as well. Lots of room for soft/loud dynamics there.
