  1. I saw quite a few shows in '88, and while they were fun in general, nothing stands out as being special (unlike '87 or '89). That 4 shows in 5 nights run at Alpine was the most BRUTALLY HOT run I ever caught. Someday if I get a scanner I will post pics. The best part of that run was that Dylan played there the night before the Dead run, and it was the best Dylan show I ever saw. SPINE-TINGLING.
  2. Precisely. One of the things that made the Dead so endearing. No politics, hell, no talking period. Let the music do the talking. That said - CSNY - "Freedom Of Speech Tour '06". That was a beautiful thing.
  3. Ahhh, you got my back, man. I'm shocked that no one has mentioned Phish yet. But I'm sure someone will soon enough.
  4. Yes they do. They are a really fun team to watch right now, but I could've went without seeing Jerry Jones doin' the high-five with Dubya.
  5. Since Then - David Crosby and Carl Gottlieb The follow-up to Long Time Gone, this one is extremely sad.
  6. Godammit, Poon. You KNOW I hate almost everything. Can I just say "The 1980s"? I mean really...that godforsaken hair metal shit...that skinny-tie new wave garbage... OK - I got one. WHAM! If anyone here confesses to liking those pathetic bastards please keep it to yourself, I don't wanna know.
  7. Remarkably there are ZERO DPs from Brent's last few years - '86,'87,'88,'89...zilch. DP 9 is from 9/16/90 - Bruce's first set of shows with the band. It's good, but the final night 9/20) is REALLY good.
  8. Well, you have to start with 3/29/90 Nassau of course. Even if you're not a big fan of that era it's hard to dispute that that show is one of the great ones. A few others (off the top of my head): 10/9/89 - the Dark Star breakout ("Formerly The Warlocks") 10/16/89 - officially released as "Nightfall Of Diamonds" 10/20/90 - VERY good show from the Bruce era - parts of this are on one of the Road Trips series 12/31/90 - last great NYE show 6/28/92 - best Vince era show I ever caught 5/26/93 - one of the last truly awesome shows Hope this helps. Enjoy!
  9. Yep. I've seen Wilco a dozen times or more and the only one I saw that was "an evening with" was in '05. It was easily the best one.
  10. 1) me too 2) yes it is 3) the dog runaway jim has an awesome story as well
  11. You forgot to log in as "mountain bed".
  12. I heard Joe The VP call it "twenty-oh-ten", so why that's dreadfully wrong I think that's what I'll go with.
  13. So, on 12/28 Trey tells the crowd that Fish's Vacuum solo on "I Didn't Know" is "his last solo of the aughts". Then, on 12/30, they start up Syd Barret's "Love You" and Fish announces that the solo will be taken by "someone who looks like me". He picks some dude from the crowd to do the solo, and then GIVES HIM THE VAC! Damn. I would've killed to do that!
  14. IMHO a reunion would be a good thing. Those guys were underrated - I'd much rather listen to SG than Nirvana (I'm in the minority here, I'm sure). And I do hear a lot of Iommi in Thayil's playing.
  15. Oooooh, I LOVE that one! (esp. 10/27/73) When Push Comes To Shove When You Wake Up Feeling Old
  16. Were you at the 7/16/92 Phish show there? That was one of the first Phish tapes I acquired, and I played the hell out of it. Great, great show.
  17. NYE has always been my favorite holiday (not surprisingly), even before I was a deadhead all those years ago. There will be killer IPAS, perhaps a taste of tequila, the obligatory cham-pahn-yeh when the ball drops, etc. And lots of loud, mind-bending jams.
  18. I was worried that this topic might make my head explode, but here's my .02: Dark Star > Space > Poor Places > Space > Dark Star
  19. The Clinton Tapes (wrestling history with the President) - Taylor Branch I loved Branch's Parting The Waters. One of the definitive historical documents of that time frame imo. I think that ultimately The Clinton Tapes will serve the same purpose for the '90s. Truly a work of scholarship, from a very insider's point of view.
