  1. The first time I heard "Spiders" live it for some reason made me think of "First Tube".
  2. One of my earliest musical memories was listening to my parents P, P&M albums. We've lost another of America's great voices of freedom. RIP, Mary Travers - we love you and miss you already.
  3. ESue mentioned "Long Tall Sally". I just love Paul channeling his inner Little Richard on "I'm Down".
  4. Dammit. That year the Bulls were "the best team ever" (72-10) we were the only team to beat them twice (2-2 during the season), and went to the last 2 minutes of game 7 in the playoffs. That was the BEST chance the Pacers ever had at winning the whole thing. I could not speak for days, I was so hoarse from screaming at the TV. So yeah, I HATE that guy.
  5. And ya gotta love the dude with the "I Miss Reagan" shirt on. That lousy motherfucker is more responsible for destroying the middle class/union jobs than anyone else. The economic disaster we've been trying to deal with was set in motion by Reagan and the culture of greed that surrounded him and his ilk.
  6. I would agree with you on this, but Ya-Ya's is the exception. It really is The Stones at the top of their game - Keef's riffing in particular. I've had that record almost since it was originally released and it just KILLS (imo). It's strange to think that just a week after those recordings was the tragedy of Altamont.
  7. "At the same age Dylan was making Christian albums". Yeah, and there are some fine songs on those LPs.
  8. I don't know about 'most used' but Donovan (aka The Pied Piper Of Peace) has to hold the record for most songs with a woman's name in the title. Let's see - Guinevere, Lalena, Jennifer, Susan, Clara, Celia, Maria...hell, that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others.
  9. OK,IRDB - I've supported you over the years when others were blowing you shit, but this time you've gone too far, man. NO ONE sounds like the Dead, not even remotely. And although I dig the Ren & Stimpy reference, there's about 100 Garcia death ballads that will refute the 'happy happy joy joy'lyrics. Oh, and I like the Wilco, but dude this is ridonkulous.
  10. I won't argue with you, but I'll say this: I always HATED that fucker. Hated the NC Tar Heels, hated the Bullsalways and forever.
  11. Agreed. I'd also put in a word for the version of "Across The Universe" that was w/o Spector's strings and stuff. This one had cool bird sounds and I think made it on a benefit LP for the WWF.
  12. The image that is permanently seared into my brain isn't the planes hitting the towers, it's those people jumping out of the towers. Easily the most horrifying thing I've ever had the misfortune to see live.
  13. I guess he said enough to placate the "hard left" (me), but it's very apparent that he is going to govern from the center. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I just hope that "the spirit of compromise" doesn't distill the vision. Let's not forget we voted for change.
  14. Wonderful pics as always, tinnitus. A good friend of mine (the dude I saw Priest at The Murat with) recently saw H&H at Riverbend in Cincinnasty. I wish I could have been there.
  15. Hell yeah. "Only The Strange Remain". I enjoyed those discs. It was great to hear the Aoxomoxoa songs on there, seeing how I never saw the GD do 'em. MOTM was lovely. I only wish the Easy Answers from Deer Creek (7/15/98) would have been on there. God, I could not stand that tune when the Dead did it - but the version TOO did that night was so far out I gained a new appreciation for the song.
  16. Well, the Indy show I saw that year (6/30) is possibly the best show I ever saw of the GD. No shit. The Maine shows in October are superb as well.
  17. Me too. I try to separate the "b/w Beatles" from the "techincolor Beatles". It's almost like two different bands. The best of both worlds collide with Rubber Soul imo.
  18. Totally agree. It sure didn't sound like that in the room, did it? I wonder if there are going to be any multitrack masters from that era ever coming out. The DP and RT that have been released sound like mud. But ya can't mix 2 track!
  19. I'll agree with David - DP #7 is one of my favorites. The Playin' on there was my favorite for YEARS. Regarding Vince's first show: I'll bet I wasn't the only VCer there. Not bad - but a week later when Bruce hooked up with the boys the shit REALLY got good. I think those first few tours with the double keyboard action was as good as anything they did in the last 10 years.
  20. A close friend (and former bandmate) of mine got the chance to open for JTE here awhile back. He said Justin was as nice a guy as you could ever hope to meet.
  21. Glad you made that post, Joe. I've been on a rant all day - our local school system (in order to placate a few wingnut parents who have expressed their concern) is going to "review" the speech before they decide if our President is trying to brainwash the little childrens into being hammer-and-sickle-waving socialist robots. This stuff is SO beyond the pale it truly disgusts me. And before anyone comes on here yammering about how "the Left did the same thing to Bush I" let me say this: it was wrong then, and it's still wrong now.
  22. Happy Belated to one of the coolest ladies on this here board! Hope your day was as awesome as you are.
