  1. My first thought as well, M(. Well done, Shoes.
  2. Boy. Man. God. Shit. Happy Birthday!!! Hope you enjoy yourself!
  3. Dick Latvala - July 26, 1943 - August 6, 1999. Ten years gone. Everyone who collects live concert tapes (especially GD) should give thanks and hoist a Heineken in honor of THE MAN. NO ONE knew the Dead's music better - even the band members themselves! RIP Dick. Wherever you are, I'm sure there's some Heinies and some Wowie goin' down.
  4. God, I LOVE Discipline. What a fantastic change from the classic KC-style "prog". Obviously there's a Talking Heads influence, but much more 'refined' you might say. Fripp himself has mentioned ITCOTCK and Discipline as the best KC records. Hard to argue.
  5. I concur heartliy with this statement. Wheelco, we miss you, dude. Happy belated and stay progressive, you old fart!
  6. Well sunsabitch, Mike. I actually came into this thread to see what you really look like. I'm just gonna keep on assuming you look like FZ.
  7. Here's a nice (if a bit over-the-top) review of the Red Rocks run: http://www.phishthoughts.com Enjoy!
  8. Wow. I've never heard that Cal Expo show. Crazy Fingers > Cumberland > Eyes? Now THAT'S what I call an unexpected run of tunes!
  9. Happy Birthday to one of my favorite VC politicos. Hope your day was as sweet as you are!
  10. 8/3/02 - Alpine Valley WI I: He's Gone tease > Cryptical Envelopment > The Other One > Feel Like A Stranger, Bird Song, Lazy Lightning > Supplication, Aiko-Aiko, Estimated Prophet, Casey Jones II: The Music Never Stopped, Baba Jingo, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Morning Dew, Dark Star > Born Cross-Eyed > Dark Star > Cryptical Envelopment, One More Saturday Night E: Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower "Terrapin Station: A Grateful Dead Family Reunion" - Lesh, Weir, Kreutzmann, Hart, Barraco, Chementi and Herring Lammy (or anyone else,
  11. I've always thought the live Spiders is one of the best things they do live. It's just about the only nod to jamming Wilco does. Always reminded me of Phish's "First Tube". When the apocalyptic noise from the end of Poor Places is filling the room, and the stage is covered with dry ice smoke....and then Spiders just sneaks in. That's Wilco at their best in concert (imo of course).
  12. Tinnitus - thanks SO MUCH for those pics! They are fantastic!
  13. According to an old dear friend of mine who's done the entire tour says they are VERY focused. A better description might be "concise". Not a lot of extraneous noodling or jamming (which is fine by me). I will say the newer tunes aren't going to set the world ablaze, but Trey gets in some scorching leads at the end of nearly every tune I've heard. The best part (according to Eric) regarding the new stuff is that they are mostly upbeat jumping tunes - not a lot of 'introspective' Trey ballads. Thank God. Stuff like "Two Versions Of Me" can get stale pretty quick imo.
  14. Lammy, you get down there and get your ass in by hook or by crook. I expect a full review. Also, Matt (jc4) is heading out there. Be nice if you guys could meet up.
  15. I kind of always thought that the 'two guitars are obsolete' comment was just the kind of thing someone would say knowing that such a comment would push the buttons of the other person involved. Like you would do with someone you've lived with or been close to for a long time. Only this was on film. Sigh.
  16. That 7/29/88 Playin' is truly unique for that time period. It's on the "So Many Roads" box set, yes? There is a total meltdown in there that is almost impossible to describe - it's so weird, and Brent just freaks completely out! Great stuff for the latter period of Dead music. Especially in '88 - they still weren't going outside too often yet (that would come in '89-'90).
  17. Nice stories you guys. I would love to do The Daily Show or The Report someday. When he's ON the first 10-15 minutes of John's show is still my favorite thing on television.
  18. I've always appreciated the stylings of the Crow Daddy. Even when he's at his most abrasive. If I think about it I'm probably FAR more dickish in real life than I am here.
  19. Thanks, Aman, for delivering this very sad news. I knew (from speaking with David and others in his band) that John had been not well for quite some time, but this is still a shock to me. I had the privilege of seeing McDuke with the NRPS in '89 here in Indy. Got to meet him after the show (where my friend Ron bestowed upon "Ol' Panama" some of our Hoosier 'gardening expertise'). He was a very engaging, gracious, and witty fellow. It was one of the great nights of my life. He was SUCH a big part of NRPS. I've seen the David/Buddy band from the last 5 years a few times, but John's vocals an
  20. You so crazy. What angst-ridden '90s rocker has Dead bassist Phillip Lesh as a godfather?
  21. I'll go on record as saying '87 was the funnest year I ever had on tour (not drug-related). Spring and Summer Tour, hell the whole year, was a celebration. Jerry was very much in the process of regaining his chops, so there was VERY little hard core jamming but the fact that he was BACK and they weren't FINISHED - plus the whole "In The Dark" breakout made for a very exciting time. By '88 the thing had got too big imo. But for a brief moment I felt vindicated - we could make this thing BIG and we might emerge unscathed - WRONG.
  22. I was hoping you'd get a killer show, and anytime you get the old-school Poor Places > Spiders it'll make your night imo (that combo is still one of my favorite combos I've ever seen them do). Running into WW is a BONUS - what a sweetheart she is.
