  1. I'll never forget. It was my 18th birthday and I walked (floated?) into my parents house with a head full of acid. My dad is watching football on the tube, and he sez "Son, I'm sorry, but Lennon was killed tonight". I thought that was a very cruel joke and told him so. But then I watched a minute of the tube and, sure enough, he wasn't kidding. Words can't really express how I felt right then. Between this event and Reagan just being elected it was if my adulthood was starting from a very dark place. Dr. Winston O'Boogie lives on in the hearts and minds of all who can just imagine. RIP Jo
  2. :: cues up Thorogood's "Move It On Over"::
  3. I'll go ahead and say it - HC Sunshine probably shouldn't have been reintroduced to the rotation. I LOVE this song in its original construction. Every version I've heard from '73 is wonderful. When it came back out ('92? '93?) it just did nothing for me - aside from the vocal harmonies being great the lack of a jam was a big bring down for me. I saw a half-dozen or so of the latter takes and generally it was a ho-hum affair.
  4. I can totally envision the Lions beating Indy and finishing 1-15.
  5. Oh come on now....dude needs to find a razor, yes?
  6. I totally agree Aman. What has been done to unions since around '81 or so is just a shame. It almost feels like a class thing to me - give Wall Street suits nearly a trillion bucks with no questions asked, but rake manufacturers over the coals for 1/20th of that cost. WTF? Maybe this goes in the Big 3 Thread. As far as not being able to pay workers with their line of credit from a bank - I call bullshit.
  7. Good to see your survival instincts are kicking in. OK. I'm gonna go watch The Omega Man and prepare for the alpaca lips.
  8. I'm so glad you put that last bit in there. Now it all makes sense to me.
  9. 12/6/73 - Convention Center, Cleveland OH I: Bertha, Mexicali, Loser, BT Wind, TLEO, BIODTL, Deal, El Paso, Row Jimmy, Greatest, China > Rider, Around II: Ramble On, Me & My Uncle, HC Sunshine, Big River, Dark Star > Eyes > Stella > Sugar Mag Yes, we've probably discussed this show before. At least the Dark Star. But I can't let the date pass by without mentioning how seriously mind blowing this one is. At nearly 43 minutes it's (as far as I know) the second-longest on record (with 5/11/72 taking the honors at 48 minutes). But this is no boring coasting - there are many
  10. You selfish so-and-so. You have Kirsten, and I have Mike Fucking Pence. I'd almost undergo root canal without any anesthetic if it would shit can that horrible bastard from the Congress. I guess it could be worse - I could have that King dude from Iowa.
  11. Oh hell yes. Hell, I'd be tivo-ing CSPAN then for REALZ.
  12. Back in '02 my friend in SC got the David Nelson Band to play at his bar. VERY reasonable, price-wise.
  13. I personally don't care if it takes years and years as long as it blows my mind. Jeff, if you're reading this - no rush, man. Take your sweet time.
  14. Moe, if you can play Trey's licks you definitely do NOT suck. I won't comment on Satch or Vai, but I did/do think Eric Johnson is pretty fucking good. His first few LPs, anyway - I sorta lost track after that.
  15. 35 years ago this month - two thousand and three fucking yards, folks. Don't forget that. And that dude sure could make good time in teh airport as well.
  16. Yeah, I guess that's to be expected from an old hack movie actor. The sad thing is evidently many fell for it. This ain't really your life Ain't really your life Ain't really Ain't nothin' but a movie (real to reel) -Gil Scott Heron, "B-Movie"
  17. I'll take a stab at this later, but I want to say - jff, we should hang sometime...nice list man. remphish - did you just forget Junta? I'm curious.
  18. The Bush Legacy Project - real live, revisionist history making right before your very eyes! Catch it on a mainstream television outlet near you! God, is this guy just too much?
  19. Say what you want. The shit can be dangerous. About 2 years ago we got 2 feet of snow overnight and I tried to do the whole driveway in one go. I got completely overwhelmed. Never again.
  20. This response is veering off-topic, but that's a pretty good description of many Dead shows that I saw.
  21. Man, I wish I could get this channel. I remember when Letterman was on vaca once Elvis sat in for Dave and it was really good stuff - he's a very thoughtful and knowledgeable interviewer. He'll do well with this show.
  22. Indeed. On the LP "Complete Braxton '71" (an Arista release) there is a track on there that has AB overdubbing 4 saxes - I LOVES me some World Saxophone Quartet, but what he does on that track almost puts them to shame. It's truly mind blowing.
