  1. i think wilco would be much different if jay had remained in the band and nels never joined. for one, every song wouldn't end in a guitar solo like the songs tend to do now. i think they would have been more experimental like with the summerteeth and yankee hotel foxtrot albums and sky blue sky would have ended up sounding totally different. i still think jeff would have wanted to write the sky blue sky songs whether jay was there or not, but the final sound of the album would have been different because jay seemed like someone who liked to stand up to jeff and give his honest opinion and w
  2. i hope it doesn't sound like sky blue sky... that album just isn't holding up very well as time passes. i listen to every other wilco album way more than sky blue sky (including AM).
  3. so why is this thread 48 pages? did jeff come in somewhere and state his official opinion?
  4. well duh, but what is their reason? is it because they are mad at the company, or because they really think the quality won't be improved with blu-ray? i think it is the former and not the latter - i can see it being much better on blu-ray, in particular the sound which is the most important part of the movie. if you have a blu-ray player and a 5.1 surround sound system then it might be worth checking the blu-ray out.
  5. thanks for posting this... viacom will probably be dicks and ask youtube to delete it today
  6. i think it depends on how the sound turns out on the blu-ray whether it's worth it or not. the sound on the normal dvd is beyond awesome, and i can't see it being that much better on blu-ray unless they put 5.1 dolby digital surround sound on there. Then it truly would be better and would be worth picking up the blu-ray. i'm not sure if Wilco is trying to say that the audio will be the same on the blu-ray or not, but i don't see how that will be the case. i think they might just be a little butthurt that the company is releasing the film without telling them (which is a stupid - they shoul
  7. i liked the melody... couldn't really tell what jeff was singing though besides "wilco" and "colbert" and something about being attacked
  8. i think it'd be nerve racking being interviewed by colbert - he thinks so fast...
  9. no, it's an attack on both organized religion and god in general. in the movie, maher comes off as an atheist that thinks god is just an imaginary friend in the sky.
  10. yeah i saw it today and noticed the song. i'm surprised wilco let them use it - i don't really think tweedy agrees that believing in god is stupid
  11. being there is so much better than anything whiskeytown or steve earle recorded... but i still like their stuff. but being there is peerless in it's quality. and no uncle tupelo on that list? shame shame!
  12. perhaps i will try to rip it. i'm surprised no one on here has lossless rips of this documentary.
  13. i just started listening to this album recently. very good - every song is about a broken heart.
  14. i walked out on Bob Dylan last year at ACL. for one thing, i wasn't close to the stage, and for whatever reason he refused to let cameras do a close up of his face. so they had big screens there to show the performers, but they only put a distant view of the entire stage up on the screen. As for dylan, he sounded horrible. his voice is so raspy these days, it sounded like he has throat cancer or something. he was just grunting instead of singing. it was too difficult to watch so i left. i felt embarrassed for him because a lot of younger people who don't know dylan were in the audience
  15. the beatles were all about love. bush/conservatives are mainly about hate and fear and war. the author should have searched long and hard to find a pro-war song in the beatles catalog. he'd still be searching.

    I fear

what i wish would happen would be for jay bennett to re-join the band, help jeff write all the songs, do all the deconstructing/looping/noise work in the studio, then leave the band and let the current cast play the songs live.
  17. lots of good suggestions so far... i think no one mentioned derek and the dominos - layla and other assorted love songs. that entire album is basically about eric clapton's love of george harrison's wife.
  18. the audio recording for this movie is ridiculously good - if you jack it up and blast it at full volume you feel as if wilco is in the room with you playing the songs. you can hear every little nick, the bass sounds amazing as if john is playing it right in front of you, the drums on pot kettle black are so completely awesome that i don't know how they didn't manage to capture that sound on the actual album (it's much more muffled on the album, though still good). saying that leads to my next question - is there anyway to get the recording of these songs in mp3 format or (better) lossless?

    One wing

haha true in other news this new song is completely badass - it's wilco using everyone's strength to make a really quality song that doesn't sound forced.
  20. well i shall take a $75 dollar ticket please. what's the presale website?
  21. wilco > radiohead because tweedy is cooler than thom yorke. yorke is kinda a douche in reality. he cries like a little baby if something he releases doesn't get unanimous praise from the critics (i.e. The Eraser). i think both have been in a downhill spiral since their release of their masterpieces (YHF for wilco, OK Computer/Kid A for Radiohead)
  22. dear lord. anyone have links to any other ticket prices?
  23. *Stamps "ASS" above your head* /a la Conan O'Brian and Max overall i enjoyed the recording, not the greatest sure, but it's fun to listen to. the only really terrible singing is in airline to heaven. jeff screws up about 5 songs, but it's always funny when he does. what i wonder is if he really "forgot how to play" summerteeth like he says in the recording, or he just didn't want to play it. if i ever got to go to one of these performances - kamera, pot kettle black, summerteeth, and candyfloss would be at the top of my list.
