  1. i think tweedy definitely believes in some sort of god - he has many songs full of religious imagery. i don't see anything in theologians that would suggest he is atheist, but honestly i couldn't put into words what that song (or any of his songs) mean. i don't think i can form sentences well enough to do it justice.
  2. maaaaaaaaaaaaaaah gawd no texas show... maybe i'll fly to new york
  3. i was trying to find good love songs (i know, sounds gay) that aren't the standard pop/country stuff - kinda in the vain of something tweedy would write but not a song by jeff (cause i know all his songs). for example - love hurts by gram parsons is really good, and of course the beatles - something which could be the best love song ever written. also chi-lites - oh girl. anyone care to name some others that i might not know about?
  4. yeah i don't believe it. the fact that they are hiding the body and trying to do a documentary on it to make money is ridiculous.
  5. you realize it's not a public event? probably the 30 people there pooled up thousands of dollars to win the charity concert.
  6. nice... something to listen to at work edit 1: lol some terrible singers in the crowd for airline to heaven "turn your eye to the lord of the sky" - someone is trying to harmonize an octave above jeff and is failing miserably edit 2: haha jeff is screwing up pretty much every song. pretty funny stuff.
  7. i finally got around to buying this album a couple weeks ago, and i'm quite surprised it got such outstanding reviews. this music is dreadful and uninspiring... i can't understand what beth gibbons is even saying in most of the songs, and is it just me or can she not sing? she was so much better in their first two albums. Listening to Deep Water makes me cringe. it's like her voice keeps cracking and going out of pitch, and i can't tell if she's doing that on purpose or not, but it sounds like a really bad karaoke singer. her lyrics are pretty bland this go around as well. where are the
  8. is it just me or do the Fm and Em on "All I wanted to say" sound totally off? I think he keeps playing a Dm there then switches to something else...
  9. hey does anyone here have a recommendation for a book or website that explains chord progression really well? it really pisses me off when i'm looking for a particular tone while playing something and i can't figure out what chord i need because i have trouble understanding chord progression.
  10. i was going to come in here and argue with you, but i decided i agree. nels livens it up a bit, doesn't he?
  11. i think my friends can be grouped in the majority of music listeners in america. the majority listens to only what is popular on the radio. while you'll never hear wilco at a dance club, i remain optimistic that they can break through the mainstream. they'll have to write a different album than sky blue sky thats for sure, but there was a time when challenging, artistic, and experimental music ruled the chart. it was in the days of the beatles and the stones and dylan, and it could happen again. not that wilco is the chosen one or anything, but they deserve a break every now and then. i
  12. show 4... damn that bass line on thanks i get comes out quite clearly. pretty groovy.
  13. speaking of which, they are nice enough to reschedule the show. when are the white stripes going to reschedule all the dates they canceled last year? "oh meg had a nervous breakdown, sorry we aren't playing! fooled you!!!!" and no word of any rescheduling. that almost ruined ACL for me... only wilco made it all better by playing an awesome set.
  14. My reaction, if they did the opposite, would be that the band is retarded. how can you pass up an opportunity to play on SNL just to play a generic show that you can just as easily reschedule? how can you pass up an opportunity to expose yourself to potentially millions of new listeners? i would love wilco to break into the mainstream. i'm sick of my friends listening to only foo fighters and thinking everything else sucks. they don't give wilco a chance because wilco doesn't get enough exposure. why are some fans so selfish that they want wilco to be their own little secret and never r
  15. i'm guessing you were -4 when you got into no depression, so that would make you about 14 right now. yep, that is about your maturity level.
  16. any band would take an snl gig over a shitty charleston show, no matter how unfunny snl has become. snl isn't writing wilco's songs, so it's not going to affect their performance. give them a break.
  17. this could be the worst thread i've ever read here.
  18. can anyone tell me who played lead guitar on "that's not the issue." I'm guessing Nels?
  19. however they did play when the roses bloom again... i have that song and for some reason i've never listened to it. i shall pay more attention to it from now on
  20. the imperial palace in vegas has a karaoke club that records performances and sells dvds of them. i've been looking for some place in texas that does something similar but haven't found it. anyone ever heard of place like this besides vegas?
  21. so anyone think they are going to play those songs from the wilco book? that would be funny if they played the entire wilco book in the same setlist... the people that chose that day would be pretty pissed.
  22. i'd be at all 5 if i lived in chicago... i guess i'll just have to settle for going to none of them.
