  1. So have the last three seasons been a flashback or just the events that occurred in tonight's episode? Also, any speculation on who the dude in the casket is?
  2. How do you convert DVDs to ipod? I didn't know that was possible. I have a strong feeling we may actually finally possibly see a live dvd this year sometime. That would be totally wickedly awesome. I absolutely really like adverbs.
  3. I remember sometime before Anthology 3 came out that it would be considered to release a new song on there as well, but then they decided not to at the last minute. I seem to remember the surviving Beatles at that time saying that they didn't release another new song because they felt they had said all they had to say music-wise, or something to that effect. Instead, we got an instrumental introduction on Anthology 3 that had never been released. I'm wondering if this new track is the final one that was supposed to be released back in '96.
  4. I would also say that I was blown away by this song the first time I heard it. I had Polydor's best of Velvet Underground, then later I put together another compilation that had stuff from the albums. I would say that my favorite VU song is "Venus In Furs". It's got such a weird tempo and it's strange that the distortion makes it melodic, but that's the way it feels to me.
  5. "Icky Thump" is up on itunes now. Not the album, just the song
  6. ooh, mixtapes are fun. granted, I think it should just be what songs you feel expresses what speaks to your heart. I know it sounds like you're making it about you, but showing someone that you have original thoughts and feelings can go a long way. The best way to let someone know you're interested in them (friendship or otherwise) is to share something about you. I've learned that from a good friend of mine. I've made her a mix cd as well. I love the challenge of coming up with a mixtape, so here goes my suggested mix (different from the one I made my friend). In the end, it's your call
  7. When I first posted about this album, I was put off by the mellowness of the record. However, I wanted to give it a chance to sink in. After repeated listens, it is a record that I have come to embrace. Yes, generally it is mellow, but there are songs on the other records that are just as mellow. I think what I like about it is its simplicity. There's no trickery here, no slight of hand. The songs have to stand on their own; that takes some metaphorical, um, well, you know. What I liked about Being There, and still do, is the feeling you got of being in the room when the record was bein
  8. now I'm a Radiohead fan, but I wouldn't exactly say that they have automatic credibility, never mind that Wilco and Radiohead are two completely different bands who have different sound agendas. Besides, in my eyes, Hail To the Thief was a "safe" record, bland in some spots.
  9. Wilco: january 31, 1997. current song, "kingpin"
  10. Maudie, it would be awesome to see you again. Hopefully we can all meet up that weekend.
  11. Neil Young at Fillmore East on the way to work this morning.
  12. I thought for sure they would be playing Charlottesville again this time around, maybe in the fall at the Paramount. In any case, I'm itching to get out of town, so I think I'll be going to the Red Bank show.
  13. It's pretty obvious the record labels are more concerned about maintaining a Mrs. Bates-like control over their music rather than turning a profit. And they wonder why their music sales are down...besides serving the public shit on a platter.
  14. Hey Michelle I would definitely recommend the Avett Brothers. They're bluegrass with a lot of energy. Think March era Uncle Tupelo with the humor/light touch of Barenaked Ladies
  15. An Avett Brothers playlist on the ipod, right now "When I Drink" from The Gleam
  16. Cracker Van Beethoven (David Lowery & Johnny Hickman) at Starr Hill 3-29-05. "Sweethearts"
  17. WNRN in C'ville played 'What Light' on Saturday.
  18. I've always been a casual listener of Neil. this album is actually getting me excited about the entire set.
  19. That sucks, Drew. Sorry to hear that.
  20. soooo, Jack has a half-sister. that angle seemed interesting at first, but kinda fizzled out at the end of the episode. of course, it could have a way of coming back later in the season. somehow, i think that will be the case.
  21. I was thinking recently (today actually) that I would like to go up to Cooperstown and see the Baseball Hall of Fame. Has anyone here been there before? Any suggestions on what can be done while there or what else there is to do in that part of New York. Is there a better time of year to go as opposed to another (ex. induction ceremony weekend vs. early fall). Any feedback would be appreciated.
  22. walked out on Wilco, but only because it was a shitty venue that had been oversold (Recher Theater) walked out during the 1st encore of GBV because I was worried about missing the metro. it was my first and only GBV show and didn't realize they went three hours or so. when i realized i wouldn't make it, i just walked back in and hung out in the back. walked out on MMJ because it was getting late and everything was sounding the same at that point fell asleep during a Disco Biscuits show. apparently i didn't miss much because i realized they were playing the same song the whole set
  23. I went back and listened to SBS yesterday. After listening to "You Are My Face", I had to pick up the melted remains of my face. Holy cow. I still maintain that "I Hate It Here" is a fantastic song. I can't wait to hear it live.
