  1. After listening to the recent cd release, Live At The Olympia, I was impressed by the energy that they put into "rehearsals" and how awesome they sounded. Of course, I'm not surprised either. I haven't seen R.E.M. live for more than 10 years now, but in those two tours in the 90's, even with a lackluster album (UP), they were still a great live album. I thought that with the live album that came out in 2007, the energy wasn't as much there, and the setlist was somewhat uninspired. However, it was a great idea to tackle some songs with the rehearsals that they haven't done in years or not a
  2. Have they ever played 'No Way'? I've always loved that song and would think that it would translate well live. I believe they had done Brain of J at one time or another over the years, which is another rocking tune! Have they ever played 'No Way'? 3. I still think Yield was their best album. It was the album that made me actually reconsider my distate for them. I would love to hear them finally do 'No Way' live.
  4. The first two albums were classic albums and I know I listened to August and Everything After over and over. I think it would be interesting to see a joint Counting Crows/Ryan Adams tour. I know Adam and Ryan were buddies at one time for sure, but who knows these days. I'd see it if they did it.
  5. I honestly didn't hear that many differences between the mono and stereo versions of the White Album besides the differences that have already been mentioned. I did think the sound was remarkable compared to the original cd releases. Long Long Long sounds amazingly beautiful remastered. I have come to realize how much of Harrison's output with the Beatles makes up my favorite Beatle tunes. I have thought about checking out more of George's solo stuff.
  6. I was surprised that Lewisohn was not involved with writing the liner notes for the remasters. I suppose it was because he's tied up writing his own Beatles book. I have that book the Complete Beatles Chronicle. I haven't read all the way through it, but it's interesting to look through from time to time and has lots of cool archival photos and artifacts.
  7. The Anthology version is even more interesting, about three or four minutes longer too. I am so excited! I finally got my copy of the mono boxed set. I also bought the remasters for Let It Be and Abbey Road and listened to Let It Be on the way home. I was particularly impressed with the warmth of the sound on The Long and Winding Road. I felt like I was listening to it on vinyl. I am listening to Please Please Me right now. In articles leading up to the release of the remasters, there were interviews with the engineers about fixing hisses, etc. in the songs. I was wondering if that
  8. So I'm guessing the version of Helter Skelter on the White Album mono mix will be the same as the version that appeared on the Capitol Album Rarities. That mono version did not feature the fade in and the Ringo shout out "I've got blisters on my fingers!" (bummer), but rocked harder than the stereo version.
  9. He was, but quit when Liam said that Oasis was bigger than the Beatles Oasis was an okay band, some great tunes (Talk Tonight) but got more attention than they deserved from the media. They'll reunite eventually.
  10. From what I've heard, Cameron Crowe has been working on some sort of video project lately with them.
  11. I finally decided to order the mono boxed set from Best Buy. It'll be curious to hear these new remastered cds and see how much of a difference there is in the sound. If it's anything like the Love CD, I anticipate good things. In any case, it'll be neat to have this collector's item.
  12. Oh I totally agree, I would have been very happy to have more pensieve scenes in the movie, but I read a few months ago that they were only using a small number of pensieve scenes, so I didn't go in with my hopes up.
  13. i concur how about "Wishful Thinking"?
  14. Just to give you folks an update...after first deciding that they wanted to make the job full-time after all, the administrators at the school first decided to hire someone else, then decided to make the job part-time after all. however, i did get a job at another school and start there on Monday. So thanks again for your thoughts and well wishes.
  15. I'm going back to reading the books in anticipation of book 7 movies. the way i figure it, i should be able to finish all seven in the next year and a half. was really impressed with the movie. although i really enjoyed the pensieves plotline of the book, i could see how too many of those scenes in the movie would have dragged it down. a pretty faithful intepretation of the book.
  16. I noticed the box sets are limited editions. I wonder how limited they are exactly. I can't imagine them selling out too quickly, considering the price on those suckas.
  17. Sometime last year, I picked up On The Beach on vinyl. I'm looking forward to moving to my new place so I can finally unpack my record player again and give ol' Neil a spin, as well as Wilco (The Record)
  18. The more I listen to the songs, the more I realize how much I like the Love Is Hell album. I see it as one entity, which is how it should have been released in the first place. Rock and Roll had some decent songs, but way overproduced and Love Is Hell definitely had more solid songs. Favorites include, "Avalanche" "City Rain, City Streets" "World War 24" and "The House Is Not For Sale".
  19. It's really too bad that Wilco doesn't do a live archive series-this definitely sounds like a show for the history books-I haven't heard the performance, but just the run of the setlist shows the potential of being a face melting show.
  20. The demo version was more of a power pop type tune. I do agree that the Loose Fur version would be greatly served by the current lineup. I'd also like to see Wilco do Wreck Room
  21. okay, and i thought I was seeing a lot of shows with 16. this makes me feel better 8/99 San Antonio, TX opening for R.E.M., along with Mercury Rev 4/2002 Recher Theater, Baltimore, MD 7/2002 Bogart's, Cincinatti, OH 10/14/2002 9:30 Club Washington, DC 6/2003 Mission of Burma opened! 22. I feel like the interview went well, but I haven't heard anything for sure yet. I did feel very encouraged about it, I'm still in the running for the job. In the end, it will be mine, all mine.
  23. Howdy vcers! I am asking for your help today. I am interviewing for a job today that I really really would like to get. It would give me an opportunity to return to Charlottesville, the town I first called home after moving to Virginia. Every time I return to Charlottesville, I know in my heart that its where I belong. I also would really like to get this job because it is in a private school and I know it is a job I would enjoy immensely. I appreciate any vibes you could throw my way. I'll let you know what I find out once I get a definite answer. Thanks. Jeremy
  24. Jim also thought the latest Black Eyed Peas album was a great album; I don't take too much stock in his opinion
  25. I saw the group waaaay back in 2000 on the Binaural tour in the Big Easy. Maybe I'll try to see something on this tour. I haven't seen a live show in over a year. The news mentioned tie-in with a video game company, I'm guessing we might see a new track on the next Guitar Hero.
